Conservatives have tried many times to implement things like tort reform, but the DNC which counts on the contributions of ambulance chasers blocks these efforts. So it's more than a little disingenuous to then turn around and say that the conservatives never tried anything, when the truth is that it was Democrats who got in the way of reforms that could have maid this entire debate unnecessary.
There is this a (I think) deliberate misunderstanding of the conservative position from liberals. Nobody is saying that there should be no health care reform. Liberals refuse to acknowledge that there are alternatives to a government system that will fix the system we have. The government system will be just yet another costly failure of central planning. This idea that "we just have to do something" and that that something must be this one idea that liberals have is ridiculous.
Still I'd be more convinced they were serious if they handed a single comprehensive one instead of 35. here's a question to all of you that want to demonize insurance companies: If you want them to take a pre existing condition, how much do you think is fair to pay? If an underwriter looks at your situation and says "in the next year, this guy WILL cost us $200,000" how much is fair for you to pay?
I hope you consulted with your doctor and asked if he slipped something he didn't tell you about in your chart before you filled your application for insurance. Because when you start claiming for cancer treatment after faithfully paying that $1200/month premium for years, your insurance company will say... this guy will cost us $xxxxxxxx, how much is fair for us to pay? If that stuff your doc slipped in was not reported in your application, you're toast, and you better have influential friends.
I think you missed it. When you apply for insurance with a PRE existing condition the underwriting department has to assess risk. The premise of insurance is SHARED risk. If you already have a condition when you apply they have to assess the risk/cost to the company as well as other customers paying premiums. If you get full coverage car insurance they take a picture of your car so they don't have to pay for damages already there when you signed up. it's the same thing.
And since I drive like a bat out of hell most of the time I have 2 tickets on my record that my insurance company charges me more because of. BECAUSE I'm a higher risk. The probability of me wrecking is higher than a guy with no tickets. any insurance works that way, no matter if it's auto, life,health...

And yes, I have a $30 co pay and 30% on hospital but paying more wouldn't balance out on how much we use it. premiums, copays & hospital cost ME under $5k in entirety to have a child. Insurance payed out about $8k.

Apparently, the insurance companies have the latitude to process you, accept your payments, and then rescind your coverage within a period of 2 years, even if the reason for rescinding coverage is medically unrelated to your condition, just because you omitted stuff you were not even aware of. Doesn't matter if the doctor testifies on your behalf that it was a note they slipped without your knowledge.

As far as I can tell there is no chance that the bill currently being put forth will scrap the private insurance Americans currently use and establish a universal public insurance plan. I agree that a universal public insurance plan should be considered socialism. But as long as the public insurance is optional, the bill would not be considered socialist, but merely a form of subsidization. Btw France uses a public insurance system and is rated #1 in the world (you're not even top 10).
And Obama meant "universal" in the sense that the plan would help to ensure that everyone is covered by EITHER the private or public insurance.. he did not say that everyone will have to use the public insurance.

I'm not sure on what measures using Blackwater mercenaries save money. If you are a company and have your own experts, why would you hire outside consultants to do their job unless you deem your employees incompetent to get it done? Heath Care Reform should be a priority for ALL Capitalist even if you are from the socialist state of Alaska. Read Gary Locke's article in the Wall Street Journal and you'll start to understand why this country needs Health Care reform. We must debate so we get it right.

Liberals refuse to acknowledge that there are alternatives to a government system that will fix the system we have. The government system will be just yet another costly failure of central planning. I'm not poor because I bust my ass. I have been poor. And I used to know many women getting govt. "assistance". None of them bothered with school, or getting a job. ONE of them collected a total close to $1500 a month and lived at her parents 5 acre ranch and rode her horse every day to her heart's content. But because she's an idiot and didn't want to put forth the EFFORT, no one would give her a job that paid as much as the govt. was handing her. no incentive.

here's a question to all of you that want to demonize insurance companies: If you want them to take a pre existing condition, how much do you think is fair to pay? If an underwriter looks at your situation and says "in the next year, this guy WILL cost us $200,000" how much is fair for you to pay?

I hope you consulted with your doctor and asked if he slipped something he didn't tell you about in your chart before you filled your application for insurance. Because when you start claiming for cancer treatment after faithfully paying that $1200/month premium for years, your insurance company will say... this guy will cost us $xxxxxxxx, how much is fair for us to pay? If that stuff your doc slipped in was not reported in your application, you're toast, and you better have influential friends.

I think you missed it. When you apply for insurance with a PRE existing condition the underwriting department has to assess risk. The premise of insurance is SHARED risk. If you already have a condition when you apply they have to assess the risk/cost to the company as well as other customers paying premiums. If you get full coverage car insurance they take a picture of your car so they don't have to pay for damages already there when you signed up. it's the same thing.

I'd also like to know who's paying $1200 a month for health insurance. I pay $455 for blue cross for a family of 3 with 2 tobacco users. And yes, I have a $30 co pay and 30% on hospital but paying more wouldn't balance out on how much we use it. premiums, copays & hospital cost ME under $5k in entirety to have a child. Insurance payed out about $8k.

When I watched that video, I didn't care much about the sob stories, I was more interested in what they did, what they didn't do. When listening to the execs testify, I heard a lot of politics from the questioners, but paid more attention to what the execs had to say. I was not satisfied by most of their answers, although I understood why their companies did what they did. When they couldn't figure out their own applications, smart as they are... that did it for me.

$1200 is approximately the amount I would have had to pay Aetna per month to cover myself, my wife and our baby, all healthy with no pre-existing conditions and not prone to sickness.

Apparently, the insurance companies have the latitude to process you, accept your payments, and then rescind your coverage within a period of 2 years, even if the reason for rescinding coverage is medically unrelated to your condition, just because you omitted stuff you were not even aware of. Doesn't matter if the doctor testifies on your behalf that it was a note they slipped without your knowledge.

Doctors are against insurance reform, because they do not believe that their labor belongs to you. They went to school for nearly a decade, and went into debt to learn a skill that they could then use to make a living. It is not your business what private agreements they make with their customers. "First do no harm" does not mean that they must treat you, only that they must not intentionally make you worse.

As far as I can tell there is no chance that the bill currently being put forth will scrap the private insurance Americans currently use and establish a universal public insurance plan. I agree that a universal public insurance plan should be considered socialism. But as long as the public insurance is optional, the bill would not be considered socialist, but merely a form of subsidization. Btw France uses a public insurance system and is rated #1 in the world (you're not even top 10).

I'm not sure on what measures using Blackwater mercenaries save money. If you are a company and have your own experts, why would you hire outside consultants to do their job unless you deem your employees incompetent to get it done? Might as well fire all your inefficient employees and hire only consultants. That in my view would save money. Anything less is unecessary spending. Then again those mercenaries were trained in the military using your taxpayer money before they went private.

Obama and the dems want to help me fix that. That's a simple choice to me. All bills have flaws, and you can trim them along the way into a better working system. It's a process.

Republicans have proposed many options that will not include a universalized healthcare system. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU WULD LiKE TO THINK THERE WILL BE NO EXTRA TAXES< THERE IS GOING TO BE. It is predicted taxes will increase by $818 BILLION dollars over the next 10 years. There is no other way to pay for this. Obama did have to take on a recession but throwing billions out the window was not a good idea. Socialism is not the way.

No need to be socialist to have a working Health Care system. I don't mind paying tax if I know it benefits me and the broader community. When I had insurance, I already had 40% of the premium deducted from my paycheck. I see no difference between that and getting taxed, either way you pay. Now considering we have the current 9% unemployment rate. Spread that $818 billion over ten year among the remaining working population, then compare the result to the $12 billion a month FOR Iraq.

Yup one of the very few who voted for Obama. As for statistics, they are just trends, no more no less. I'm not saying they should not be used, but people tend to take them as facts and throw them around as such, especially in the media. I would read the stats, compare it with my personal experience and what I see around me, and then make up my mind. Then again, considering all those factors, being taxed to my own benefit does not bother me one bit. Profit is not always money.

Actually many voted for Obama. Statistics are statistics, if they were trends they would be called trends, would they not? It is inaccurate to base on whats around you to form a conclusion because people are different everywhere, and one party maybe subject to that one are. Actually you would be taxed and others would reak the benefits. Profit, talking in the terms of money, is money. No point made.

What escapes you, my ignorant socialist friend, is that a tax is nothing less than the government confiscating your private property. Profit may not be money, but it is Capital, and the less of mine the government has the better off we all are. Governments do not create wealth, innovation, or prosperity, people and industry do. If you want to flush your money down a government toilet so you can suck a big government tit, remember you flush your freedom with it.

Well my supersmart friend, in my experience, money doesn't guarantee your quality of life, and won't help you stop being a jerk. I have nothing against making a lot of money mind you. Likewise, I don't care if I never strike it rich. All I know is, I work hard to feed my family, and there's a serious problem when I can't afford healthcare for my kid, regardless of how smart or hard I hack it. If it turns out that the health care proposal doesn't work out, it can be changed. Our laws allow that.

Once you surrender a liberty to the government you will be hard pressed to get it back. If you cannot afford health insurance for your family, you need to make more money. Pretty simple. I at times have worked three jobs at once, and I have chosen a profession that guarantees health insurance for me and my family. The serious problem is with you, your income, and your attitude.

Based on your description of your life, it seems you take your family's health insurance for granted. Perhaps you ought to check the congressional hearing of the three major health insurance companies on CSPAN, that'd open your eyes on a different reality. But after your reply, I'm prone to believe you're more interested in denigrating me than do something about the 800 pound gorilla in the room.

And about your precious liberty, two words: Patriot Act. It was proposed and passed under the watch of an administration that agrees with your views. Just book a flight to a foreign country to experience a figment of what happened to your liberty at the airport.
And If getting a governmental health care OPTION is such a bad deal, how come no country that implements it has uprisings about it. On the contrary, with very few exceptions they enjoy it thoroughly.
