Lol the mic sounded way worse. the camera mic may pick up more background noise, but a microphone such as the one ur using picks up alot more static feedback compared to the camera mic whitch would not have and feedback. But i dunno maybe its that kind of mic

To save bandwidth, YouTube doesn't have stereo sound because it makes videos sizes larger. Hopefully sometime they will allow stereo sound in YouTube videos.

I think YouTube only allows you to upload video files. A lot of musicians post their music as a video file with just one still-frame image (picture of artist, contact info, etc) running through the entire song.....

I think the reason it might have sounded "muddy" is because as he said, it is rather an inexpensive mic, BUT, I believe it picks up the lows in his voice much better. I would use an external mic.

Generally though, Camera mics have a cheap tinny sound and external mics pick up better. One problem is when you aren't talking directly into the external mic.

It's especially important for Youtube artists, a lot of them videotape themselves singing songs and it's just horrible..

It is true. There are many good, cheap video cameras whose main problem is their sound/mic is lousy. Just buy a cheap external mic and your cheap video camera all of a sudden seems pretty nice! And if you edit it well, then, you can do great video on the cheap. But, it is more to lug around and a little more work, but hey, you're in it for the cause! Keep the faith, baby!

i was making a school video last year, so I bought a cheap mic for about $20. When I tried to plug it in, there was no opening!

So in conclusion, make sure you buy a camcorder with an external mic jack.

Maybe your sound card needs updating, or maybe your speakers have f***** up, mine went for a while, i'm just got my laptop and no extra speakers and i got crumbs in the keyboard and shook it but my speakers must have disconnected because they didn't work afterwards, but 2 days later they started working, they could have come disconnected so just wait awhile or cheak out the cables and stuff inside (if you can open your speakers XD

Reason is that the codec that youtube uses is not able to excatly keep sync and they do recommend you upload in certain formats and not others. I upload in Quicktime and its close but not exact, maybe .avi or Divx is best as they specify and it may differ whether its a PC or Mac, NTSC or PAL. Andre

You can add a codec so Quicktime Pro can play and save most formats. Like avi, wmv etc Get the wmv from Flip4Mac on Microsoft Mactopia website if you use a Mac if you use a PC it will be at their download section. Get the Pro version of Quicktime a it will certainly do avi, and save the movie. Andre

Correct. The bass muffles the voice. I guess it would be good for some sort of musical instrument. But the camera microphone was better for just voice.

And it depends on what you are using for a sound system. If you are using tiny laptop speakers, perhaps the external microphone may sound better. But I have good speakers, and prefered the camera's microphone.
