If someone gets a promotion that I justly deserve, and I don't do anything about it, then I have allowed an injustice to myself as well as the other person(and to whoever gave them the promotion). The only true way to get over envy, is to realize that there is a downside to every positive thing that happens to a person and to remember that no one gets out of this world alive. Even if you do believe in an afterlife, you probably don't believe that you can take your promotions with you.
