It taught me how to better maintain my ceiling fans and when I would visit various establishments and the fans were running, I would check to see if they were rotating in the proper direction for whatever time of year it was.
The ceiling fan featured on this clip is made by "King of Fans"
We have a ceiling fan above our kitchen table (52" in an area that is 7 X 11.5 feet) that, when running, is always set to blow the air up. Around the time I started college, my father decided that since there is still cold air if you are just outside the area directly under the fan (blades are approximately 7 feet above the floor), he did not like that. Therefore, he decided that the fan should not be on when he is at the table.
I have a ceiling fan in my bedroom, and when I am wanthing to warm things up when it's cold, I have it turning clockwise. This is very useful information.
I remember when I was in elementary school, and we had ceiling fans in the classrooms. The only time they ran though was during the beginning and end of the school year, when it was warm outside.
SHUT UP! I was just thinking about this clip last week while staying at my parents house - I went to turn on the ceiling fan and was curious as to which way I should have it spin.
In 2002 during TWC's 20th anniversary, Marny went on record that she became the ceiling fan lady thanks to this spot. She'd be in the grocery store or what have you and people would come up and start inquiring about which direction they should have their fans running at the time.
I wish they'd air that more often- mine is running counter clockwise strictly because it gets so hot in my room, even in the winter.
But the idiot who built our house decided to put the heater vents on the ceiling and cold air vents on the floor. Brilliant.

I just watched this to see if my ceiling fan was spinning in the right direction. It's running counter-clockwise...so, it's spinning the correct way.

I recorded this segment on VHS in 1996

Request, if you've got it! An old Pacific update segment, usually shown very late at night, with the map of the Pacific Ocean, AK, and HI.
