  • Andy Williams a CLASS ACT!!

  • Comment removed

  • ‎70's, Pop, R&B, Child Star Singer-Songwriter stopped by.

  • SAMCRO!

  • A Top 5 hit for Andy Williams in April/May 1963. It hit #1 on what is now the Adult Contemporary charts.

  • Josh Kohn was the shit

  • @jmj540 Yeah man! He was a sick character. R.I.P.

  • Andy, Andy, Andy! I've loved you since I was a wee lass. Doesn't matter you're older than my Da. You still have me heart!

  • Holy smokes Andy Williams did this song before English beat woah...is everything recycled! hmmmm well kinda like this version hopelessly depressing

  • LOVE the pizzicato on the strings! It makes this song INSTANTLY recognizable.

  • 2rjswan - the deejays made this a hit because it was "B" side to Days of wine and Roses and they kept playing it because it was better. I wish someone would post his Holly from 1967. Great single.

  • Love this song. Thanks, Andy

  • my favorite Andy Williams song .I loved listening to Andy Williams songs ssince I was 10 years old Begining with Moon River

  • Not only was his singing top drawer, Andy Williams had the coolest sweaters..! He, and pro golfer, Gary Player..

  • i called a ups and asked for kyle the black man for 6 hours, kept getting the same kyle and i would say i love him and play this song, epic.. wish i would've recorded..

  • Thanks for the memories..... what a song!! I'll find somebody, wait and see!

who am I kiddin? only me! lollllll.........

  • It was the beginning of my love for music of that day. It made me happy and hopeful. I love the 60's and 70's. When you've lived through that, it's part of the fabric of your life, and evokes great feelings.

  • The first record I ever bought as a kid. The flip side had "The Days of Wine and Roses.

  • @SharonLD A great tune, I was a young teen when this was playing on the radio in the early 60's. What a wonderful time for music. Can anyone today remotely compare to the artists of that era?

  • this song was awesone on sons of anarchy :)

  • this song by andy was a favorite of me and my first boyfriend, first true love, brings back happy memorys for me,wonder were mac is now?my first true love and i still think of him today.happy days gone but not forgotten.

  • I was really little when I heard this on the transistor radio and it really had an impact. Then when my sister bought the 45rpm~wellll boy did she get sick of me deviling her to play it. Finally she told me that my brother had broken the record, so she couldn't play it for me anymore. My poor brother never did understand why his four year old sister was so hopping mad at him....I still love this song a gazillion years later. :)

  • "The problem with our relationship," Beth explained, "is that I'm with Bob now. What we had is over, finished, finit-o, and you're just gonna have to deal with it." There was no point in arguing with her as she turned and walked down the hall. As the echo of her high heels slowly faded, I faintly heard music from the apartment three doors away. I craned my neck to listen and heard "can't get used to losing you...guess I'll spend my whole life loving you." Yep, that's the story of my life...

  • Great song. I was a young lad of 9 when it first came out, and I have never stopped liking it. Certainly does stick in the head, like someone else said, and always has done for me.

  • Songs from way back to the days i lived at home with ma @ pa :) hehehe ........

  • TVnetdude --- I guess I got carried away. I have a PhD for this song only in a figurative sense. It's a classic piece of studio work. Seldom did Andy Williams overdub ...it wasn't needed in order to 'fatten' his voice. When it WAS used, it was superb.

  • This song got stuck in my head because of the end of the episode of The Pull from the 1st season of Sons of Anarchy....such a great ending of an episode lol.

  • early pop music = good fun

  • I guess you know what the real measure of a great song is, right? Listen to this 3 times in a row. See if it doesn't stick in your head for the rest of the day. Just like it's on a 'tape loop'. If you can't get it out of your head for at least a day ...then you know it's a great song!

This was my doctoral presentation in "Fine Song Appreciation" ........

  • @jtrader47

You got a PHd for this song?

  • A Great song by a great singer love Shirls xx

  • English Beat version is better

  • Wow! I didn't think there was any way to find this. I LOVED this song when I was a little girl---except. I kept sing, 'can't get loosed to using you'! lol It kept bugging me for months. Thank you SO much for posting this gem. I've finally got the lyrics right.

  • THANKS so much for posting this. It's my favorite Andy Williams tune. Love the amazing use of the plucked strings. Never fails to make my day. THANKS once more! :)

  • This song is SO good,..i love it! ;)

It's kinda got a reggae feel to it, the Musical arrangement (sp?) is sublime! ;p

  • That's why the ska band The English Beat covered it. Check it out.

  • @finylvinyl66 Yeah, i've heard that version before, it sounds great also!

Actually, i think my Mum may have it on LP at home! ;p

  • It's funny - I remember Andy Williams as a

really cornball, mainstream singer in the Sixties. But this is a great record. As is

the English Beat version. Check out Skeeter Davis' countryish version that you can find here - really good as well.

  • And today (December 3) is his 82nd birthday.

  • Andy Williams may well have been "cornball", but he carried it off, laughing all the way to the bank. In his era, he and Perry Como were 2 of the highest-earning performers in the world. Shall we say, 'Cornball with panache'?

  • i love SKA:)

  • KXOK AM 630 St Louis early 60's. I won this record on "name it and claim it"

    I was really excited.

  • this song is haunting put in the right context.....saw it on Sons of Anarchy and it totally worked. Reminded me of Hurdy Gurdy man in the movie Zodiac.....

  • Thank God for You tube! Also heard on Sons and went right to you tube!

  • I first heard this zillions of years ago when I was a small mite and it is STILL fantastic.

  • My favourite song of all time.Fantastic

  • lol.... i saw this song playing in a ipod in one of the scenes of sons of anarchy

  • I used to tease my older sister about buying Andy Williams' albums while I was into the Beatles and Stones, but behind her back I listened to this song all the time.

  • '62? I thought this came out in '63.

  • You are correct 123. Sorry. I hit the wrong number. 1963 was the release year...

  • I remember this song when it came out in `62. It is brilliant now as it was then. Everything Andy Williams sang was great. He had a wonderful tv show in the `60`s which showcased his talents.

This type of music is priceless and timeless!! Andy is still around and a true gem!!

  • I found myself in a motel room early one morning listening to cable radio stations when this song came on. I just lay there in the bed...frozen. Completely mesmerized by the beauty of this song not heard in a long, long time. The plucking violin. The clean, crisp vocals of Andy Williams. Very few record songs like this anymore. A wonderful time remembered.

  • WOW!! I heard this way back on WNEW-AM 1130 in NYC. A true classic from way back. Thanks for this one.

  • I heard this on the radio over the weekend for the first time in, oh, 40+ years and I recognized it instantly. The distinctive plucking instrumentation it begins with is unforgetable.

  • Yea this song came out in 1962

  • Geez, I remember hearing this back when (early 60's?) when I was just a little kid (born in '53). It always had a VERY powerful effect on me as a little kid. I suppose it was a combination of the "plucking" sounds (which are "startling") and the singing--I understood it clearly as a lamentation of some sort, I'm sure I didn't understand about what, exactly.

Those punctuated sounds where almost like my nervous system being plucked!

  • One of my favorite songs of all time

  • Great production on this one; the strings give it a powerful sense of melancholy. One of Andy's best..

  • Just Heard this sone in a great episode of "Sons of Anarchy" - GREAT SHOW! And Great song too!

  • Same here, heard it on SOA and went to youtube to look it up.

  • Lol. Yup, me too.

  • Yep, me too

  • WoW!! I listen to Drake and Zeke in the morning, out of Memphis, Tn. They play it often, wasn't sure who it was thanks for posting it.

  • When I was a kid my mom used to listen to an adult standards-MOR type radio station. I can remember hearing this while eating breakfast before school (this would have been around 1982 or thereabouts), and being mesmerized. Sometimes, I think I was just born too damn late.

A great song, and a great singer.

  • It sounds a bit like "Go Away Little Girl", sung by Steve Lawrence, especially with the double vocal tracking

  • Vinal, There is no substitute!

  • I love this song. Glad to know it's here on YouTube.

Thanks for sharing costantynus, you're the best!

  • yea youre awsome! thanks!

  • has anyone got Andy singing "The dearest sound I'll ever hear?" Please upload if you have..it's fab.

  • For anybody wondering, this song was written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman who wrote a bunch of Elvis' big hits. It was at #2 for four weeks in 1963.

  • English Beat is good too, but this has a more classical feel than the English Beat's rock beat. A very good song, by BOTH of them~

  • just heard it on sons of anarchy, amazing song

  • Heard this at Junior School. Still great.

  • i grew up singing this song with my pops! great music,,, thanks for posting...

  • very nice song..i love Andy Williams!

  • @labambawatusi ha ha ha thats funny, i agree, I REMEMBER MY MOM PLAYING THIS ALL THE TIME, AND HERE IT IS ON SONS OF ANARCHY.....LOVE LOVE LOVE "SONS", PROBABLY THE BEST SHOW ON TV, BEFORE I DIE I WISH THEY WOULD COME OUT WITH A CD SO I CAN PLAY IT IN MY CAR

  • Sing your song Andy. It fits most of old timers Puts a smile on my face everytime I hear this

  • im a sons of anarchy and now andy williams fan. :)....nice song

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • SONS OF ANARCHY ROCKS

  • this was at the end of last weeks episode of sons of anarchy.

  • Records give soul to recordings, it's true..... ...Loving Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.

  • the screen is spinning around

  • I remember hearing this playing on the juke box in the Basque restaraunt in the small town in which I grew up. This was a popular radio hit in the early 60s.

  • what's that thing spinning around ?

  • its an automatic hypnosis machine yous stare at it until you get hypnotized.

  • A CD, BC

  • im only 18 but my dad loves old classics such as these and has imparted that taste in music in my brother and i. I have loved this song since i can remember.

  • This takes me back to my childhood, when the radio played this and other great songs. Excellent!

  • A brilliant old hit from the legendary Andy Williams eh? I loved the cover, which the Beat performed back in 1983 too!

  • I remember waking up from a nap when I was a kid and my Dad was playing his Andy Williams record, and this was on. I'll never forget the pizzacato rhythm, (even tho as a child I had no idea what it was) and the lyric, "There's no use in hangin' 'round..." fit me as I went outside to play. Of all my Dad's records, this one stays in my mind the most. I'm forever connected to my Dad whenever I hear Andy Williams sing. (Or Steve Lawrence: he was his 2nd favorite.)

  • This is my most favorite Andy Williams song

  • Loved it then, Love it now!!!!

  • I've always liked this song and am old enough to remember it as a hit in the early sixties. I love the unusual pizzicato strings - rare in a pop song, and imaginative of the composer. Much better than "Moon River".

  • sweet ass song

  • This is actually Andy's biggest chart hit... and nobody seems to remember it. His christmas songs and "Moon River" have overshadowed it.

  • I do! I wore out the 45 record! LOVE THIS SONG!

  • This is not true! "Butterfly" from 1957 was his only #1 and spent three weeks there (14 weeks in the top-40)! This song by contrast spent four weeks at #2 spending twelve weeks in the top-40.

  • GREAT OLD SONG
