Jesus, he got from 0 to 60 in 11.5 seconds?? I drive the 2.0 liter, 147 hp, 4 speed-automatic w/ slap shift, and I can get from 0 to 60 in about 6 seconds. The only reason he gave it such a terrible review, is because he was behind the wheel of a base model Kia Soul. Just don't buy the basic, and the car should be just fine.
I take it back, it may not be six seconds, but I know for a fact that I can get there in less than 11, as have watched the speedometer and counted how long it took to get to 60.
kia updated the soul for 2012. they added direct injection to both engines. the 1.6 makes 135 horsepower and the 2.0 makes 160 horsepower. also, they will have 6 speeds too. the base model will have a 6 speed manual only while higher trim levels will get an optional 6 speed auto. the 1.6 will be good for 28 city, and 34 highway. the 2.0 is good for 27 city, 33 highway. they really stepped up their game!
Why we need a backup camera for such a small car ? I like the exterior and interior styling, just wish the engine is more powerful and less road noise on highway.
Just bought one. Good deal for the money and was happy to get it home. Had it a couple days and I like it far more than I did when I first bought it. It's best to view it as a truck, not a car. It is large on the inside - very weird. It's like an older CRV or RAV4 but funkier. If I bought it it means I believe it will last 200000 miles. I'm a cheap bastard.

I also definitely agree with you on the comfort part, I spent 16 hours solid driving mine and my back/tailbone felt fine, even though the ride isn't as smooth as you would get in something with more weight and looser suspension. Plus, I can fit my Soul anywhere, the turning radius is amazing and no parking spot is too small.

drove friends stick shift kia soul for a day and its not that bad of a car, plenty of room and its quite peppy, goes over 100 mph without a problem and has quite a nice interior with an ipod hookup. If you buy one, opt for a 2.0 manual version. Fuel economy could be netter a tad... but still ok

@Scoltz1 No, they don't catch fire. Working for Kia as a parts manager, i see all the recalls and parts associated with it. The problem was with wiring harnesses for the light up speakers. They overheat and stop working. There's no reports of Souls catching fire anywhere

@johnsaby They did give the sport version a 2.4 engine (non-turbo and non-super) and a 6 speed manual gearbox. They got 173bhp and 168 ft.-lbs. of torque. Less torque than the diesel version, but has only 33 more horsepower than my '96 Dodge stratus with a 4 speed auto. BTW, the 1990 BMW M3's 2.4 makes 240bhp supercharged.
@johnsaby The auto may DEFINITELY ruin the Soul, so I'd recommend the 6 speed manual, because you may need every bit of all the gears because my car is okay in city driving, but SLOOOOWWW on highways. I think they did that to reduce insurance rates for kids because rates are determined between engine size, speed, and horsepower.

I'm not a huge fan of my Soul (Red outside, red/black inside. ... to much red) but im a huge fan of having to drive 80 miles a day (from home, school, then home again) and not have to fill up on gas all the time. Plus it's comfy, cheap to insure, and the sound system's not half bad :D when i get a job that pays more than 9$/hour, then ill find something else :) rock the soul man, im with ya

@nexorabolis I actually like the colour scheme on mine, It's black with a silver stripe. It's the sx so it comes with 18 inch black/silver rims, and an all black interior.
I also definitely agree with you on the comfort part, I spent 16 hours solid driving mine and my back/tailbone felt fine, even though the ride isn't as smooth as you would get in something with more weight and looser suspension. Plus, I can fit my Soul anywhere, the turning radius is amazing and no parking spot is too small.

This car is slow because it doesn't have a big engine. However, it doesn't mean that it is ugly slow box. In fact, it is a fuel effcient car.

drove friends stick shift kia soul for a day and its not that bad of a car, plenty of room and its quite peppy, goes over 100 mph without a problem and has quite a nice interior with an ipod hookup. If you buy one, opt for a 2.0 manual version. Fuel economy could be netter a tad... but still ok

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a RECALL of nearly 24000 Kia Souls years 2009 and 2010, they can catch on fire due to faulty wiring. In addition to this NHTSA has also opened a probe into steering defects for the 2010 Soul. Kia Sorrento is being RECALLED also. NHTSA is now also investigating the 2011 Sonata for a serious steering system defect. Look it up on Reuters.

@Scoltz1 Every automaker has recalls at some point..have you forgotten Toyota with their woes lately? Honda and Nissan have had their shares as well.
Last time I checked, the Kia Soul in America is outselling the Honda Fit, Nissan Cube, Honda Element, and Scion XB nearly 3 to 1. So that says something about this so called "poor quality" Kia Soul huh?
Honda is even discontinuing their Honda Element this year because it is getting its butt kick so badly by the Kia Soul in sales...lol

@Scoltz1 No, they don't catch fire. Working for Kia as a parts manager, i see all the recalls and parts associated with it. The problem was with wiring harnesses for the light up speakers. They overheat and stop working. There's no reports of Souls catching fire anywhere

My brother has this car, it''s CRAP!!! The engine runs rough, it's slow, and rides very rough. But, it does have an incredible sound system, and is very safe.

@MeLoVemY350z I actually own a Kia Carens not really the Soul but many people seem to drive Souls here anyway the Soul is ideal for city cruisng, off road maybe questionable but its got the Kia reliability and affordability with the style of an Expensive concept car.

@johnsaby They did give the sport version a 2.4 engine (non-turbo and non-super) and a 6 speed manual gearbox. They got 173bhp and 168 ft.-lbs. of torque. Less torque than the diesel version, but has only 33 more horsepower than my '96 Dodge stratus with a 4 speed auto. BTW, the 1990 BMW M3's 2.4 makes 240bhp supercharged.

@johnsaby The auto may DEFINITELY ruin the Soul, so I'd recommend the 6 speed manual, because you may need every bit of all the gears because my car is okay in city driving, but SLOOOOWWW on highways. I think they did that to reduce insurance rates for kids because rates are determined between engine size, speed, and horsepower.
