As soon as you see a real steadycam shot the homemade and ebay stuff suddenly looks bad in comparison. DIY ones always have a floating out of control look to them, and they soften walking rather than eliminate it. But I can't afford one of these.
i always feel sorry for camera operators... they almost do every physical action the actor does, but holding an extra big fat ass camera. RESPECT TO CAMERAMEN.
i have hmc 154 and would like to buy this, can you tel me wht its caost and from where you get that? what it's full name plz.... thaks for this result, its the best i ever seen
@stevenerer I wouldn't like to try it, not with my camera. You wouldn't be able to hold most cameras at arms length for any time without wobbling. That said, Cameragrip/Hague do make something like that, a sled with no arm, probably really aimed at domestic camcorders or small DSLRs maybe.
Nice foot work, looks smooth. I've been taking similar shots in the forest using a Cam Caddie and I must say the results are impressive especially considering the price of the Caddie.
@Burritoast No, many European Steadicam operators work in Goofy mode, arm on the left, it is the way we are taught, Americans tend to work with the arm on the right. A good operator should be able to work either side as the shot requires, i.e. tight up against a wall, I'm not great on the right side, changing sides does require practice. What I would say is that Goofy seems the perfectly logical side to work for me, it means you can see and access all the controls on the camera easily.
@apntv oh right on i didnt know that... i just bought the Pilot myself and have been using my Z1U and GoPro cameras on it and im really impressed... did my first test with the rig today! i must say achieving dynamic equilibrium is pretty challenging! i can get it so damn close, but not quite... i am trying to learn the mathematics behind dynamic balance, but im only 2 days into owning this rig so time will tell.... keepo up the good work.... what kind of work do you get out there?
@Tomheidable True as the handheld images are off of my own HD camera, the actual footage, shot on a Z7, was supplied to me later on DVD after editing and encoding etc.

I´m right handed and because of that I found to frame properly with the left hand a nightmare...so I put the arm on the left...side.

It is a Steadicam Pilot, see tiffen.com/steadicam.html, you should be able to find a local dealer listed there too.
