I spent a day in jail when I was 17 years old. Never mind what you hear about jails, this cell was solid concrete pure white and the bed was a concrete slab. Not even a pillow and blanket. I smuggled a nickel into the cell in my sock that I found in the phone booth making my "phone call" I played with the nickel for 12 hours straight tossing it, spinning it, etc. If not for that I may have had a mental breakdown.
The penal system is indeed a business. No question. But to suggest that some who are in there just need understanding and education shows that you are naive. There are completely sane people in the world who would slit your throat for just looking at them too long. Get out of your safe cell and stop staring at the walls.

worked in prison for 3 years, she is correct to a point, inmates really really really hate being locked up in there cells and it really sucked having to wrestle them into their cells 3 times a day after rec. and dinner times. Also in the disciplinary section some inmates were locked up for nearly 24 hours a day and they were nearly insane. This gets into who needs to be incarcerted ect. certainly not the numerous petty drug offenses created by an artificial black market breeding violence.

You should take some classes so you can speak in complete intelligent sentences in the future. Also, prisoners do not sit all day with nothing to do. They are allowed to read books from the library, watch t.v., and at one jail in my area they have a gym in each unit where they can lift weights and play basketball 12 hours a day. "Brain deprivation" (which is not even a correct term, look it up!) is not happening in our prisons.
Those people the convict killed are in a small box without light or sound too. Kinda ironic dont'cha think? Other countries prisons are far worse. I say we need to bring back public executions.

Have you ever studied common sense about neural networking of the brain? I guess you didn`t because braincells won`t simply die on you from doing nothing. In a prisoncell your brain is just forced to switch to another environment. Its up to these people, who didn`t even think beforehand and therefore not smart enough, to concentrate on the things that are really important. Like, how to better yourself from that point.
From the first ten seconds of this video I think she is a total dumbass hippie and was high whilst making this video, but I also know that when the brain is deprived of normal sensory stimulation, the dendrites of the nervous cells will disconnect and cause the normal function of the brain to be supressed. The mind's way of coping with this is to create it's own sensory stimulation by creating violently disturbing hallucinations to keep you from becoming a vegetable.
Also I think change is important to keep our mind and imagination going. Seeing new things is what inspires us to create new things. I don't know too much about brain deprivation, but I've been looked up sensory deprivation tanks & it's interesting how "supposedly" once deprived of all senses, your mind creates amazing images. In America you can go to jail for minor things. Well, where i'm at you can go to jail for vomiting on the sidewalk. My friend went to Wayne County jail in Michigan because he got sick (allergies to some food) at a restaurant and was walking to the car and vomited on a public sidewalk. The security guard called the police and we got pulled over and he went to jail on charges of "disorderly conduct". I'm not joking! I've stopped thinking of the world in terms of "deserve" or "doesn't deserve" because it doesn't accurately describe reality. There is simply what "is" and what we wish there to be. If an airplane malfunctioned from a defect in design and caused the tragic death of hundreds of people, would we destroy every airplane of that model because the plane "deserved it"? No! If the problem could be easily fixed, destroying the plane out of rage and a lust for vengeance would just be stupid!
some people do things knowing full well it will cause harm and suffering to the person it is done to. whether it be a defect, a moment of weakness, or a full understood and well thought out action.

My point is that vengeance is a primitive urge that may seem right but actually does more harm than good. I don't think of a brain defect as an "excuse" any more than a malfunctioning gear in an airplane is an "excuse" for it to crash. But it is a _reason_. And why not compare humans to other non-biologically based machines?
Now I agree, the human brain is more complex than an airplane, but I do not think it is fundamentally different in any way. We create a simulated model of the external world in our brains, and one part of that model is what we call "intent". But there are reasons for why a person intends something just as there are reasons why a gear in an airplane may malfunction.
and what if that person knows full well what the consequences of that action are but do it anyway? some people cause incredible harm to others and wont stop doing it, if you jail them they get worse and if you let them go theyll do it again, some people will just cause harm no matter what you do, and the victim of the crime or the victim's family will have untold problems depending on the severity of the action. theres also a difference between revenge and solving a problem too..
either way humans are living, machins like airplanes arent, there are thousands of factors and consequences to consider when it comes to something as complex as a living thing with a complex thought process. nothing is that black and white, just because two things are similar doesnt mean the factors and consequences of the actions are.
If truly nothing can be done for them and they will always be a danger to society, then of course they should not ever be released back into society. That's only common sense! I know people deliberately do things to cause harm, but that still doesn't answer the question of _why_ they do them. People do things for a reason. If that reason can be known about and changed, then that person's mind at least stands a chance of being repaired.
What I object to is that we treat criminals as subhuman animals and hence they become an object for us to take out our anger on without remorse, a form of twisted "entertainment" like that of the Roman Coliseum. A human being is still a human being whether they have committed a crime or not. Once you treat a criminal like a subhuman animal, you have just sunk to their level. And it is this very notion of "deserve" that enables us to justify our taking a sadistic pleasure in vengeance.
But vengeance only breeds more hatred and violence, for all parties involved. It's how small conflicts escalate into wars. Why not instead try something like what the Justice and Reconciliation Project are doing? ( attempting to restore what is broken rather than break it down some more )

But what you said is also very interesting. We are exposed to stimuli all day and all we see stimulates our mind & imagination. But if we were to look at a wall everyday, how could our mind grow? We might use our imagination, but imagination usually begins with some kind of stimulus.

In America you can go to jail for minor things. Well, where i'm at you can go to jail for vomiting on the sidewalk. My friend went to Wayne County jail in Michigan because he got sick (allergies to some food) at a restaurant and was walking to the car and vomited on a public sidewalk. The security guard called the police and we got pulled over and he went to jail on charges of "disorderly conduct". I'm not joking! I don't agree with this stupid bitch's videos but you CAN go to jail easily.

Prison is not just a way to punish people it is also a way to demotivate people to commit crimes, it is not supposed to be a fun place. I agree people usualy come out of prison worse then they came in but I havent seen a better alternative as of yet.

I've stopped thinking of the world in terms of "deserve" or "doesn't deserve" because it doesn't accurately describe reality. There is simply what "is" and what we wish there to be. If an airplane malfunctioned from a defect in design and caused the tragic death of hundreds of people, would we destroy every airplane of that model because the plane "deserved it"? No! If the problem could be easily fixed, destroying the plane out of rage and a lust for vengeance would just be stupid!

some people do things knowing full well it will cause harm and suffering to the person it is done to. whether it be a defect, a moment of weakness, or a full understood and well thought out action.
dont give me an analogy that is completley unrelated to the subject either. using a defect as an excuse in a human is just placing the blame on something else.like giving someone pills because they have an emotional problem, that doesnt solve the problem, it just puts it off to the side.

Don't you go changing the subject either--just because medication doesn't necessarily solve a problem doesn't mean it is unsolvable--and besides it's irrelevant to my point. My point is that vengeance is a primitive urge that may seem right but actually does more harm than good. I don't think of a brain defect as an "excuse" any more than a malfunctioning gear in an airplane is an "excuse" for it to crash. But it is a _reason_. And why not compare humans to other non-biologically based machines?

Now I agree, the human brain is more complex than an airplane, but I do not think it is fundamentally different in any way. We create a simulated model of the external world in our brains, and one part of that model is what we call "intent". But there are reasons for why a person intends something just as there are reasons why a gear in an airplane may malfunction.

and what if that person knows full well what the consequences of that action are but do it anyway? some people cause incredible harm to others and wont stop doing it, if you jail them they get worse and if you let them go theyll do it again, some people will just cause harm no matter what you do, and the victim of the crime or the victim's family will have untold problems depending on the severity of the action. theres also a difference between revenge and solving a problem too..

either way humans are living, machins like airplanes arent, there are thousands of factors and consequences to consider when it comes to something as complex as a living thing with a complex thought process. nothing is that black and white, just because two things are similar doesnt mean the factors and consequences of the actions are.

If truly nothing can be done for them and they will always be a danger to society, then of course they should not ever be released back into society. That's only common sense! I know people deliberately do things to cause harm, but that still doesn't answer the question of _why_ they do them. People do things for a reason. If that reason can be known about and changed, then that person's mind at least stands a chance of being repaired.

What I object to is that we treat criminals as subhuman animals and hence they become an object for us to take out our anger on without remorse, a form of twisted "entertainment" like that of the Roman Coliseum. A human being is still a human being whether they have committed a crime or not. Once you treat a criminal like a subhuman animal, you have just sunk to their level. And it is this very notion of "deserve" that enables us to justify our taking a sadistic pleasure in vengeance.

But vengeance only breeds more hatred and violence, for all parties involved. It's how small conflicts escalate into wars. Why not instead try something like what the Justice and Reconciliation Project are doing? ( attempting to restore what is broken rather than break it down some more )
