@get1989lost the Mondo Spider relies on skid steering. This requires low friction on the shoes/feet. We use HDPE for the shoes. In this video the spider is walking in bare feet. cheers.

That thing must be at least 2-300Kg. It runs on fuel, not electricity. It needs air to operate. It's bulky and not agile. This design have existed for a long time, and I bet NASA would have used it if it had ANY benefits at all. Do your homework.

The feel must slip in order for it to be able to turn. Also, the foot paths are not constant velocity in the fore-aft direction, as such the forces in the leg linkages would be higher if the feet had more traction.

Hmm, very impressive though to cut down on the noise and not suffer much with the gain of traction would it be possible to perhaps have a coating of a high density plastic or such on the feet to cut down on the loud "clang" as it steps? Of course the downside would be to have to replace the covering every so often as it'd wear down but it could save alot of headaches. Just a thought.

We have HDPE shoes for the steel feet. We only use them when we have to... we often use metal because we like how it sounds.

Steel sticks to playa dust, so we have to use the shoes at BM.
