The cigarette tax is for paying for health insurance coverage for uninsured people, which I am all for, but only smokers, which make up 20% or less of the US adult population, are paying this tax, when in all reality, all adults should have to pay for coverage because it is a public duty to uninsured children. Why couldnt the government did a flat increase on sales taxes, you know, for all goods, that all people buy, so everyone does their part?

They can tax marijuana like they do tobacco and make BILLIONS on additional taxes.

Nope, normal soda's 150 calories 40g of sugar each. I agree he's pretty small for his height.
But the example is that Soda didn't increase his weight any.
I was actually 260 pounds at one point. I got myself down to 170 just doing basic exercises over a year still drinking tons of soda.
Back up to about 180, but I'd say that's fairly healthy for someone whos 6'2 1/2

I agree completely with this rant. The soda tax is a dumb mistake and government goes too far with restricting smoking in public places. Personally, I believe the bar and restaurant owners should decide whether or not smoking should be allowed in their businesses.

The government should be applauded for their efforts. Often the government doesn't do enough but once they do everyone feels the need to complain.
The government needs new sources of revenue to combat the debt and this is one prime way to do it. Look up how much they get from taxing cigs. Its huge!
Not only that, but they are supporting a healthy lifestyle. Magus I challenge you to go out and run a mile. See how long it takes you. If it takes you longer than 8 minutes, your health is shit.

soda tax is ridiculous, as is the cigarette tax. The cigarette tax is for paying for health insurance coverage for uninsured people, which I am all for, but only smokers, which make up 20% or less of the US adult population, are paying this tax, when in all reality, all adults should have to pay for coverage because it is a public duty to uninsured children. Why couldnt the government did a flat increase on sales taxes, you know, for all goods, that all people buy, so everyone does their part?

What really confuses me is that this is referred to as the "New York Soda Tax". The thing is, many New Yorkers I've seen on holiday are strong and fit just because they spend time running around and working hard. It is a generally busy place.
