If you start to slide out of control on slippery surfaces to regain your steering and braking control you must turn the steering wheel towards the direction you want to go & pump your brakes enough to get the wheels turning again,Which is what caused the slide in the first place & don't overdrive the conditions of the road.

Some but not all front drive cars on slick surfaces only will allow you to put the transmission in reverse and apply the throttle and it won't damage the transmission.

This happened to me tonight on a country road it was really snowy and icey and the car just started sliding and i went into a bush but no one was injuried and the car wasn't damaged so it wasn't to bad but the miunte your car starts sliding everything just goes in slow motion very intense, i was very shakey when it happened!:(

@foftviper There is no need to pump your brakes with the invention of ABS (anti-lock brake system) you cant pump your brakes nearly as fast as your ABS can. The best thing to do in this situation anyways is to put it in 1st grear going down that hill while lightly riding the breaks and trying to steer clear of everything else. but not everyone is calm in a situation like this and you freeze.

Yea ive had my license for 2 years and 4 months now and i've had some scary situations. Ive slid and even though I knew what to do I didn't do it because my body just started to panic and ended up in the ditch with my dads brand new truck. Unfortunate but next time I will learn to just stay calm and try to work my way out of it.
