diamonds and other artificially valuable commodities are stepping us down in to an age that everything that glitters is desirable, vanity and greed. now that we have resolved that, lets go and adress the real important things in life.
Do none of these people realize that these slivers of diamond are actually real diamond? Technically, these are those "blood diamonds" all you hippies are complaining about.
mother nature is still the best producer of diamonds... they will still need to have a real diamonds then chip it apart to make those man made diamonds but they cant use those already man made diamonds to create another batch of diamonds from the laboratory.. so the fact is still the same, man kind will still need to rely on mother nature
@angelusofcreed You can use synthetic diamond to seed the process. Also one could could make synthetic diamonds which are not seeded but are micro diamonds and then use them for the seeds to grow larger diamonds.
Pressure is not what really does it, though indirectly it will cause a specific anion charge that strips thermal mesons away off linear planes. Plasma diamond tubing process proves this by aligning the hardness mostly in just 1 direction.
The best way to make diamonds would be to produce a heavy anion field w/o matter to flash bond 1900f co2 gasse's carbon onto a carbon rod. This would produce rough diamonds of any desired color. Maybe even some new ones we haven't seen! (I have plans for such)
A diamond is just crystallized carbon atoms. At extreme conditions, carbon atoms form into a crystal structure. It's just like when you freeze water it turns to solid ice. Ice is a crystal structure. The process in this video is analogous to water freezing. However, the Gemesis yellow diamonds are processed much differently.
onearmninja is wrong, huge amounts of blood diamonds are flowing in from Africa, nothing has changed since 2006. The earth is scorched by unchecked alluvial mining in Zimbabwe, Angola, Sierra Leone, Congo, etc. people are exploited and dying. The Kimberley process doesn't work : Zimbabwe is not even considered a dubious source for diamonds!
If you want a million year old old stone pick up some gravel from your driveway. Buy cultured diamonds and you'll choose an ethical and ecological avenue.
This is great stuff, now with artificially produced diamonds, we can finally end the tyranny of those despicable De Beers. Remember, if you buy diamonds, you are funding terrorism, diamonds are so expensive because it is an artificially induced market. De Beers is practically a criminal organization, and causes so much pain and suffering across the world. Now that we can grow diamonds, we have no more need to mine them, and no more need to support senseless blood diamonds.
Yeah get your head out of hollywood, those 'blood diamonds' you're talking about are a very small minority, which hardly exist anymore, and mining in african countries has brought an economy to certain areas. Not to mention mines in Canada, Russia and Australia supplying mass numbers of citizens with jobs.
Remember not all diamond traders look like Leonardo DiCaprio...
onearmninja is right. It is a really expensive process: mining. Artificial diamonds were stigmatized as just that: artificial.
A 2 week old diamond vs a million year old one....which would you prefer? Extracted by machines in secure factories; no blood diamonds come out of those factories, which produce most diamonds. Plus, it is really hard to resell a used diamond let alone a privately obtained uncut/cut diamond. It is a monopolized market, controlled by elites in every country.
You wouldn't buy genetically modified food so why buy 'man made' diamonds?
