I am having trouble deciding on going with a Biocube kit or starting from scratch with a standard 29 gallon. Any recomendations? I want to be able to grow soft coral
what are the types and GPH of the power heads you have. I have a 425GPH powerhead in my 20 gallon tall tank and I think it's overkill. But am I wrong?
I'm guessing he spent 500$. I got everything at a discount, tank 29 gal, skimmer, 2 lbs live rock, 15 lb live sand (just enough to cover bottom), filter bio wheel, light and a stand for 350$ but I still need more rock and fish and power head
do you have your glass supported underneath. I have a 29 gallon and im worried about adding to much rock and breaking the glass on bottom with the weight. thank you
hey can you help me with my african clownfish because when i get home last night they were breathing so fast and are carried by the water flow im afraid that they will be gone. my temp is 76f and no ammonia
hey im just starting off my 29 gallon reef tank. all i have right now is live rock and a clown fish. what kind of lighting are you using? and what corals do you recomend?
It's amazing how people fight and bitch on youtube, its quite comical to read the comments. Just take care of the tangs, people act like the fish is going to jump out of the tank and slap you for being an asshole. As long as they are well kept they will live as long as any other fish. If a newly born Regal tang is put into a 29 gallon Biocube for example over time it will adapt to its environment and become dwarfed, thus making its size stunted.
I am starting a saltwater 29 gallon aquarium and was wondering how much your electric bill is a month because of it, that is if you feel comfortable saying?

Before my dad gave me this fish it lived in a 15 gallon for 3 months. my dad also owned a aquarium store before so i think he knows a little about aquariums. what you a peta officer?
@Atheisthateme then your father is a very stupid man, tangs are notorious for getting ill and the inevitable parameter swings of a 15G nano should have killed it.
Aside from the fact that tangs like to dart and need adequate room to swim (no less then 4') I'm sure you have pissed off fish. Read any literature abotu properly housing tangs or maroon clowns and you will see the recommended minimum tank sizes.
@sharpiesreef well I haven't heard them complain yet. If you want to play that game you should feed your fish several times a day if you read the fish food and when you buy a betta fish you should buy him extra oxygenated water even though they breath air.
@Atheisthateme I don't know what food your buying but my formula 1 pellets say feed as needed, and so does the frozen. All other food is made and dosed by myself.
Where did you pull that factoid about a betta from? I'm sure pulling things out of your ass works sometimes, but in the Marine hobby it's simply not the case.
google: Minimum blue tang tank.
also any fish that can get to a foot in length is not suitable for a 15 let alone a 29.
@sharpiesreef maybe in the wild never seen a hippo yellow purple naso blond naso or any othe tang get 12 inches in a tank and my dads purple tang is 5 years old in his ninety gallon tank and lucky if it's 5 1/2 maybe 6 inches. I'm not pulling things out go to petco and go by the betta fish they have water super oxygenated in a bottle.
@Atheisthateme maybe not a yellow but I have first hand seen a blue hippo tang at 12 inches many in the 6-10" range. I never said all of those fish would get to 12" but a BHTang certainly will, yellow, purple, etc. are all shorter surgeonfish.
also, taking info from Petcos (a penny pinching company) attempt at scamming customers is just plain stupid.
face the facts, keeping a tang in a 29 is careless, and cruel.
@sharpiesreef lol ok you should see it looks nice fire goby royal gramma cleaner shrimp maroon goldstripe clown yellow and hippo tang. Search Mikes 29 gallon saltwater fish tank that's mine I didn't have the maroon at the time of the video. I'll make a new one soon.
@siglover321 I highly doubt you kept any saltwater tank, you would know what a blue, hippo, or regal tang were. Second, a juvenile tang is so susceptible to disease that most even in large systems don't last.
I won't "chill" because housing an animal improperly is just wrong, know your limits and stick within them.
you cann....ive done it...my friend has sone it.....as long as its a juvi...but you will have probelms with ich....and and i no what every....lil.....tang ....in the world is dumass
@siglover321 So you are agreeing with me then? You can't meet a tang's needs in a tank smaller then a 75, as even a juvenile is HIGHLY susceptible to disease and infection that can easily be avoided. Don't bother kidding yourself, anyone who has even done a substantial amount of research will know exactly what common tangs are, I don't expect you to know what a gem tang, or even a powder blue is.
@siglover321 now that we have established that indeed I was correct earlier, and you have more money then brains, HOW in god's name did you not know the name of a hippo tang.
How much did you pay for your Gem tang, and how have you been keeping fish for more then 5 years when you type like you are twelve? I have yet to meat a 7 year old reefer.
i do lol....i always say dory tang...becuase when my friends come over or a newbie reefer they ask me if i have a dory tang and i say yes but like i say hippo tang or whatever when i m talking to someone else

Yes all my filtration and power heads are on in this video. Inside the hang on filter is a bag of activated carbon. This is the only form of chemical filtration I use.
Yes, remove the biowheel, they can cause nitrates to build up in your tank which can stress all on the livestock.

A 10 gallon fuge off to the left, a fairly efficient homemade skimmer, and a hang on filter for surface agitation that also holds a bag of activated carbon to polish the water.
Very nice! How long have you had your feather duster? I have not been able to keep them alive for longer then a few months. They are very difficult to feed.
Probably 8-9 months, I'm not entirely sure, but I know that I had it in my 16 gallon before I started this tank in June. I just feed the tank phytofeast every 1-2 days.
