MAN I LOVE your wat of connecting the engines with a doublelinked chaine on two identical but separate sprockets.....however it may not hold but the idea is so fucking neat!!! thanks man
I'm curious.. Why did you put the rear axle so far back? I think it would look much cooler having a fat set of rear tires where the stock wheels would have been on the body. Might also help a bit with the turning radius. But that's just my opinion, and after all it's your car :)
New video shows the new wheel/tire combo that his much better, though the wheel color needs to change. Connector is a "dodge" style chain coupler, I built the rest myself. Chassis flex will be controled by the extra inner frame I've built into the outer frame.
@No1Beaver what music is this? awesomeeeee the video itself or there selves as there is more than 1 the music and the fact its a dodge, good man, ole'
Good job on the frame. Good thinking on the balencing of the engines at 180 degrees out of phase. Still might have some funky harmonic vibration transfered from motor to motor. I know alignment is still going to probably give you problems. Solid motor couplings are probably better for race track than street driving. I know your looking at a power loss but a viscus coupling might be a more driveable aproach. Good job all around though.
Great video. Two side by side pairing looks great....but the inline application appears to have been a safe and more economical. The pics of the soupling are great and helpful. Did you manufacture it yourself or was it purchased through a machine shop?? I have been interested over the years to mate two SB Chevies and would appreciate any info on the coupling.
I purchased the sprockets and chain (look in the Grainger catalog under chain couplers) and made the rest myself as I have a small lathe. Engines are attached exactly 180 deg apart so the two engines are like a V-16 that fires two cylinders at once, one on each side of the engine(s). This is the somewhat simple part if you take your time and do it right. The trick, and the part I haven't gotten to yet, is the ignition. The two ignition systems must fire as close to the same as possible.
Thanks for sharing the info. I have been checking out sites like 2 to go etc...but they are not very helpful. You have given me the umph to give it a go.
Thanks Dude - you are the #1 Beaver. I'll probably start the project in the fall and use this time to gather parts (the winters up here are friggin brutal) - keep you posted
awsome! what song is that please respond ive been wanting to know forever cause i only know that the fucking black eyed pees copyed it and i hate that version.
Yes it is the awesome Dick Dale. This particular some might be Hava Na Gila, but I think you are thinking of Misalou (sorry if I spelled those two songs incorrectly).
No problem. He's been around a long long time. Had ups and downs in his life and music career. A very interesting dude. There was a documentary on TV not long ago on Dick Dale. You can also see him in those shlockey Beach movies, ( with Annette and Frankie Avalon). If you get chance check him out.
They are a mixed pair currently. In the pictures one is a '71 (car) and the other a '89 (van). Since then the '89 has been replaced with a '77 (motorhome). I'm still looking for a twin to either the '77 or the '71, then I'll rebuild the pair to make them as identical as possible. I'll get the car running on just one at first to work the bugs out.
I have to say this is an interesting project, definately unique. And, as a Mopar fan, nice to see you keeping the powertrain(s) in the family. Too many guys would have just gone the same old route of yet another unoriginal Chevy powered rod
Looking good, Frame looks very strong, fully boxed too!
it might be beneficial to push the motors further back close to the cab, and/or shorten your coupler, if thats even possible. The wheel base just looks horrible long ;-/
How are you going to keep the first engine from twisting the snout off the crankshaft in the second engine? If the engines are not perfectly in sync, i'm afraid bad things are gonna happen! Keep the updates coming, I want to see this run.

doesn't matter where you time the motors unless for sound.. the solid mounting is gonna eat up bearings on the street.....

Put on some large diameter wide whitewall tires in it! It looks kinda funny with such small wheels and tires.
Doese anybody here know where to get those motor conectors? Or does one need to fabricate it at home?
Chassis flex would definately be a problem for the twin connected motors.

attaching the crankshafts together? couldnt that cause problems?
damanwitoutaname 3 years ago
not really, unless for some reason 1 engine wont run, but thatll only happen if its not firing, or if its timing is WAY off
