@grovekitty70 - We have no substantial disagreement. It is the video that I do not enjoy. I sang this piece as a choir boy for many many, ok, too many, years. Your point is well taken. And, yes, the liturgy is not the issue, it's placement at burial site or or part of the formal church service is not an issue with me. Joyful, hope-filled and grand beyond our usual measures --- I love Faure's Requiem.
Silly silly ness - YouTube is not specific to you as an individual. There is another whole world out there - I hope YouTube/Google make some money and puts it back into their crappy server and cut the buffering problems. I stopped watching their full movie area due to the most annoying buffering stalls. That one I would be happy to see it's final obituary.
Or any married man, since statistics show that 80% of all pedophiles are married men, while less than 3% of the Catholic clergy are guilty of the outrageous behavior. The English used to be witty, now you're all stupid AND daft. No wonder your empire crumbled.

I agree. Put this video to another piece. The requiems and in particular, this movement of the Faure, are sacred. Listen, but don't watch this version by the Choirboys, who are heavenly to hear.
OMG! This is a Requiem, a piece of music to played at a funeral mass. While this version is in fact, musically very well done, the content of this video for youtube audience is totally inappropriate. How does anyone justify such crass commericialism with one of the world's oldest traditions --- honoring the dead. The latin term requiem means grant them peace. This VIDEO is not that!! Outraged ... but still enjoyed the music.
@exotiquerobert It's possible that you missed the entire point of the movement. This could be what heaven is like--joyful. Faure's intention by putting this text in a requiem mass was to show intense joy. The text is actually from an antiphon which in traditional liturgy belongs at the burial, not at the funeral, although it has been sung while the body is leaving the church. "Into paradise..." From that POV, I don't see a thing wrong with the video.
I suppose I have the appropriate screenname to respond to this video...
Yes it is beautiful indeed, and these boys sound terrific. I've heard this piece done live a few times, but I once heard this piece done live by the Boston Boy Choir at St. Paul's Church in Harvard Sq (Cambridge, MA) about 4 years ago. 50 classically trained boys (sopranos and altos)... and they sing with about 15 men... it was absolute bliss. I felt like I was floating up to heaven.
I was just the accomplice to the massacre of this piece with my church's choir (I'm one of three 17-yr-olds, and then the rest of the sopranos are over 50. So. Much. Bloody. Vibrato). The Choirboys do such a wonderful jobs on it!! It makes me wish I was in a treble choir...though I would never be able to sing as well as them! :)

Beautiful performances. Their parents better lock them up when the pope and his friends cruise by on the popemobile. ;)
