I meant iron sights, specifically. All FPS games that have scoped weapons have useable scopes, but only modern FPS games have weapons with functional open sights. It would an extreme disappointment to see an ambitious game like Fallout 3 regress back into the realm of ignorance. In this case, "ignorance" meaning "aiming with an on-screen reticle (if that) instead of proper sights."

Yes, it is going to be a whole new game. Yes, it has a licence of a cult classic. Yes, it is going to be a typical "licence" game like the last two "fallout" was, and very unlikely anything more of a fallout. Black Isle could have done it well and Bethesda wont, even if you do like morrowind and oblivion. Its name is deceptive, since it is going to be another "special" fallout sequel rathar than following the path of authentic fallout. Fallout original concept could have been made BETTER too.

THe problem isn't the graphics, it's that Bethesda is cutting down LOTS of the gritty and realistic stuff to make sure it gets a teen rating.

No childkiller perks for instance.

And exploding cars. What do exploding cars have to do in a universe where a nuclear war was waged over the extreme shortage of oil? OR oil barrels for that matter?

I realize it's to draw as many customers in as possible, but for us fallout fans it's a real letdown.

From what ive seen the game look pretty promising so far.

Personally i was abit worried when i saw the first pictures with the targeting system and thought it would be the only option. 3rd person and that didnt seem like that good of a mix. But as it seems you can aim free or with the system it should be fine.

Fallout series in itself is legendary. Im really glad i get to play yet another Fallout game. Its just too good of a game concept to miss.

Fallout was a game that eluded me in my childhood. I am looking forward to fallout 3 as my introduction to the series; if bethesda can come above and beyond some of the limitations of the oblivion engine, I believe it will be an engrossing experience.

I've come to believe that fans of the original games will never be happy until they get period fallout 2 with a new story. And, once I pick up a copy later this week and play through them, we shall see if i agree.

I entirely disagree with you. I think Fallout 1 and 2 were amazing games, but I think Fallout 3 will be the pinnacle of the series. You can play the whole game in a 3rd person view, and you don't have to manually fire a shot either-you can use the VATS system exclusively. And finally, it's Bethesda. They made Oblivion. Well I really hate turn-based games, but Fallout 1 and 2 were still pretty fun, and Fallout 3 seems to have all the glory from the others but without having to wait 2 minutes for your turn to walk 5 feet... I like it. It reminds me of the old Fallout Tactics system. In any case, don't be such a worry-wart. RPGs exist, go pick up Spycraft or Dungeons & Dragons. Personally, in my opinion, if most of the old skill system is intact, IE diplomacy, stealth, medical, and mechanical skills, and the turn-based VAC time thing integrates well with a GOOD fps, I will be happy. But I play both RPGs and FPSs so ... that makes this appeal to me. You, on the other hand, are just a curmudgeonly dinosaur.

This just looked like the combat element, but everyone is acting like its the whole game. I happened to think Bethesda did a great job with Oblivion and Morrowind. I see Bethesda pulling off Fallouts RPG element with the Oblivion engine, since combat in fallout 2, the one I am familiar with, really really sucked. bioshock = indoors environments in constricted corridors; life, 'mana' and ammunition (upgrading stuff and what upgrades you use are really fairly static)

fallout 3 = mix of outdoors and indoors with spacious and constricted environments - the ability to scavenge for things to combine to create upgrades with less linearity

Bioshock was made to be a Point A to Point B kind of game; Fallout3 is being made to be a Point A to wherever you wanna go, and eventually getting to Point B/C/D/E/F/G/H etc

The one thing that is obvious that we disagree about, is Bethesda. For me they are not fans of fallout. They are just a company that tries to make money. Nothing wrong with that so far. The problem arises when they try to make money by tricking you to give your money to them.

this will be the game that STALKER should have been, kinda. (post-apocalyptic, free roaming world, but with more side quests and more of an RPG and a better "survival" element. Such as the intake of food/water and other items to survive unlike in STALKER you just needed food and anti-radiation stuff)

This will be the best game of '08. Well, Far Cry 2 does come in a very close second.And then there's Spore. Too bad college will take up my time, won't get to enjoy the games like in the summer :(
