The Enterprise: NCG-1701; preparing to die and be reborn. That has been happening to ships since Roman times (and probably before) but there is always a moment of sadness as the crew realizes that the ship they served on, lived on and for some, died on; will go through a change and become a new and effectively different ship. Sadness for what is lost and hope for the new and better systems that will go into the hull.
And maybe the Thanksgiving turkey won't be made of hamburger next year...
@KMacKellerann So true. I think a lot of real world Navy sailors could probably tell us the same if we could ask them. The only examples I know of are from the US Navy, but I remember USS Midway being rebuilt pretty extensively several times, and some of those refits were nearly as dramatic as the one NCC-1701 goes through. 1701's aircraft carrier ancestor, USS Enterprise CV-6, also went through some major upgrades during WW2 and I remember her sailors describing how they felt about that. =D
Great Video, I was "deeply impressed". To me the best part was @ 0:53. Where the Enterprise battlecruiser was nothing more then a small ship up-against Earth.
That's kinda sad, watching the Enterprise take her last steps before the major refit that made her an almost completely new ship. The music added to the atmosphere. Well done. I nod in respect.
Maybe somehow we can see Spock Prime in a Flashback discuss the Coming home of the Enterprise from her Original 5 Year Mission under Captain Kirk. We could hear him discuss the Surprise of the heads of Starfleet at his Decsion to leave Starfleet. His Description of Captain Kirk's reaction to his resignation from Starfleet. We could see in the Background the Deconstruction of the Enterprise as she is Converted to her new Configuration.
"Couldn't get the lighting looking very good in a few scenes, especially the warp scenes and the bussards aren't that great either" - from description.
As your other works, very impressive! The only thing I could even find to TRY to pick apart was the NCC-1701 on the ventral saucer was a bit oversized, but so not important considering the oustanding attention to detail you poured into this! Two thumbs up!
Bravo! Three cheers! You did a superb job capturing the character and likeness of the original classic ship. I had to watch this several times to take in the beauty of your craftsmanship and the fine attention to detail. I hope you don’t mind if I use portions of this in one of my future Star Trek fan made episodes. Of course, you and your crew would be given full credit. Hopefully, even draw more fans to view your great work. Check out our latest episode "Trek Love Bug."
Wow...This feels like this belongs in before the opening credits of ST: TMP! VERY well done! I wish it were possible to mix in cutaway footage of the crew on the bridge as the ship comes in to drydock but man! Great job!
@TONYGILLEY, it just goes to show you that Star Trek was just ahead of its time. Not only the technology, but the whole concept was just way ahead of society. That's why it ended the way it did.
But on another note, I doubt if we would have it as popular as it has been if the series would have continued.
The various non-cannon comics have done some nature of end of the Five Year Mission. It's a pity that TOS ended prematurely. considering the nature of 60's television it would have been interesting if and how they would have done a fitting final episode. would it have affected the nature of the 1st Movie? Kirk becomes an Admiral? Spock and McCoy a Monk and a 70's Disco dancer respectively?
Perfect. The choice of music was just right and the shot of the Enterprise in dock at 2:05 is the best version I've seen of quite a popular scene in fan art.
I know it would take too much time, really, but it would be really cool to start off with this, then show the ship being refitted and then culminate in footage (or CGI footage to match) of the launch in TMP, with the music gradually shifting from the TOS score into TMP's.
Love the video, but for some reason I see the Enterprise getting the Phase II concept refit prior to this one. After all, we only saw 3 seasons of the Five Year Mission...
Well the Phase II concept is not canon, although I do like it and it was intended to be the new design for the Enterprise until the TMP one was worked out. Having two refits in 3 years would not make much sense either.
Just simply 'Beautiful'. That's a scene fans always wondered about but never saw. Thanks for bringing that to the fans and anyone who enjoys seeing the "ENTERPRISE"
Simply the most amazing video of the original Enterprise that I've ever seen. And to see the last few minutes of the original five year mission was touching to see. You not only have a talent for CGI you have a talent for touching fans hearts. Thank you so much for showing us this. This brings me back to a time where there was just the original 1701 before the movies or the series. JJ Abrams Enterprise could never touch this ship!
Was that a proper TOS-style Kelvin-class at 0:39 ?
