Sati was NOT a part of tamil/indian culture.sati in fact was never practised by any1 south off the river narmada.however a very few brahmin communities in south india are known to have practised it.relics of sati stones are found even today.
However, it was very common practise in Bengal,orrisa & Rajasthan.again there also it was practised only by warrior communities like jats, rajputs and a few brahmin communities. dont generalize
