I have tried several of the Eye-Fi cards with my various Nikon cameras and the performance is quite poor, the wireless remote seems the easiest for my purposes, thanks for the vids.
With the remote thing, how you said it was hard to hide it. Most Nikon cameras have a remote timer mode, in which you press the button on the remote, and it takes the image 2 seconds later, so you can put the remote behind you or something.
@FadedFocusFotography Then I'd have to play "Find the remote" ;) That's a good idea. I like the Interval Timer (of the cameras I own, only the D2x and D300s have it) the most.
Wow, I would have thought that the D3100 would have one because my D5000 has one, but yeah, if you find the remote, you can autofocus every shot, hide the remote, and only get the shots you want, instead of having heaps of photos of you changing position or something.
@FadedFocusFotography The interval timer lets me think like the model after I have the camera set up right. I'm picky, so having heaps of photos lets me select the strongest ones.
When your DSLR has a HDMI output (Sony has it on all their current DSLR if I remember correctly) you can use a standard monitor with DVI or HDMI input that to review your image without a laptop or computer. Set the camera to auto-review for a few seconds after a shot has been taken and you are good to go to see how your pose was.
For those cameras, that have Live-View AND HDMI you can combine those two to check your pose and perspective before the image is taken.
Hi! snapChick. I also have a Nikon D3100. I have also a portable "big" CRT-TV (Tube TV). I used it as a monitor with my camera tripod behind it to take photo of me in my couch. I had to use my SCART port.on my tv, and the A/V jack inlet on my camea. This was a draw back, cause it suck all my jucie out of my camera battery.

A good focus tip for people who don't have someone to stand in for them (lucky lol) is to put a tripod in place and focus on that, simple and easy
