What a cute horse!! I think she is a good size for the little girl. Yes, horses are unpredictable, but she is obviously docile, and every horse, even a 11, or 12hh pony is still unpredictable. The little girl has to start SOMEWHERE!! and it is good to have a bigger horse to grow into.
look uh no mean to be rud eor anything but your daughter is way too small for that horse i agree xreeowwxLillix she should definetly be on a 12 oe 11 hh horse concerning your daughters safety
Is the horse a shire? It's beautiful. I agree she is old enough to ride big horses. My step dad put me on a horse that was half broke because i wouldn't shut up about wanting to ride but she did fine. Our horse new not to buck or kick or rear because i didn't know how to ride.
About the horse being to big. I disagree, I have a mini mare who has a terrible attitude, and I have a15hh gelding who is a doll and anyone can ride him :D
stop saying the horse is to big. the size doesn't matter. if she has parents that know how to handle a horse than she will be fine. Good on ya she is a good little rider :) keep on going little one.
personally, i'd prefere to put my nephews on my 15.1 than any of the smaller ponies dwn my yard. horses are more chilled, yet ponies can have a bit more yee-ha, if you know what i mean.
I have a little girl at my barn, smaller than her riding a 16 hh horse and she is like magic on that horse. evrybody says it may be dangerous but no they are like magic she is 7 and has been riding 4 a few months and she jumps! WOW! I think if she can do it so can ur daughter!
i can't believe people get on here and bitch about their problems. so she's a little girl who has a pony and never ridden. you don't need get on here and say that stuff. she's cute and the pony is besutiful get over it. you want a horse go out and get one
I think its ok when the girl ride these pony. She is also firstly on a lunge..And if the little girl know the facilities its ok because then she could ride the horse like a mini pony! its cute.
omg you child has a pony .. and she is tiny.. :O this is cute but weird and annoying cos i dont have a pony and im 14.. grr lol.. i wanna win the lottery now :P
wait, wait, wait. so, she has a horse, but has never ridden before? thats a bit unfair to peope who have ridden all their life and donty have a horse, but oh well, its your life. ¬.¬
the size is fine for this girl. my thoroughbred is 16.2 and is now a walk-trot lesson horse and is amazing with small shildren. its not size that matters, its their temperment
i dont know, the pony i used to ride was 15.2 hh and i would say it was around the same size, my 5 year old sister also rode it and it looked about the same size:/xx
would reccomend she not have the reins this early. use a neck strap or have her hold a chunck of mane, then shes learning to sit up right, balence and not pull herself up or hang on the ponies mouth :) They progress so much nicer if they arnt allowed the reins until after they get a bit of a seat . . .then good bye stirrups also :)
At this age for strictly learning size does not matter. Often the gait and temperment of a larger pony or small horse are easier to learn on. My own daughter forst learned on a 15.2hh morgan mare at age 2 in leadline, walk/trot at 4 and w/t/c classes at the open shows at 5 before transitioning to a medium pony on th hunter/jumper A- circuit. And no moving on to a large pony at age 8 for the open pony/Lg pony divisions. Keep up the good work :)
she looks waaay to small for the horse, but I cant really talk coz im trialing a 14.2h pony and im 5'6ish. and yeah size really does matter when it comes to horses. If i get that pony im having to part with her next year.
Actually, it'd be better off starting them on a big horse. It hurts having to sell a pony when you can't ride it because you're too big, and she seems to be doing pretty damn well on it. Why don't all of you haters actually stop and look for once? If she falls off, she falls off - it's a part of horse riding life. Falling off ANY horse could kill you, no matter the size. Big horses give you more time to think about landing :P
i dont know why people think that litttle ponies are more suitable for little kids....small ponies are like little dogs and short men- they think they have alot to prove and can be quite scrappy- bigger horses, and bigger dogs (ie labs) are often more gentle and forgiving. this horse is perfect
better a small girl on a big horse than a big girl on a pony! lol
amazing horse - you can tell she's really calm just by her posture and by her looks. and your daughter has potential to be really good - especially with a horse like that! awesome!
The problem I see with the lunging is the woman's backing away from the horse, which actually calls the horse to her. See how the horse is always wanting to travel inwards? That and the constant command which I assume means she wants the horse to trot, fuck that's annoying. Horses are so patient, bless them.
The horse isnt to big for her if she is on a lead line! People need to stop looking at the size of the horse and focus on the temperment she has a lot more chance falling off a nutter of an 11 or 12hh pony than she does of falling off an extremely quiet natured 15.3hh horse!
your daughter is too small for that horse, yes, the horwse looks like a sweetheart but horses a unpredictable and if its her first and evan if it isnt she should be on a 11 hh or 12 hh.
I'm sorry but your completely wrong. Some horses yes! But you have no idea what april is like. She is unbeleivable! She is so good she is now helping disabled children, riding her etc.
@JAYALS Plus, ponies are actually MORE likely to play up/be stubborn/throw a nervous or inexperienced rider off. Horses are much more sensible and less pushy, i've found. So i think you did good putting your daughter on a carefully chosen calm horse! :-)
@JAYALS I agree with you COMPLETELY. I was 13 when I started riding our horse George. He's 16.2 and I believe was 5 at the time. We've had him since birth and he just adores us and would NEVER put any of us in danger. Your daughter and her horse are beautiful together. :)
I think your right, even though I personally do not know the horse, every horse in this world is unpredictable. No matter how well trained or schooled he/she may be. But then again, even little 11h ponies are unpredictable, I just thought maybe a smaller pony would be easier for her to manage.
@xreeowwxLillix I agree you are wrong i started riding when i was 4 and at that time i rode a 16 hh. horse and they kept getting bigger some huge horses love lil kids no joke my lil sis is 5 and our almost 17 hh. gelding follows here EVERYWHERE like a dog and she can ride and i mean run him and everything he absouloutley loves her!
@xreeowwxLillix If horses are trained properly and trust you,you can put children on them at 5 years old without a problem, and I think they had everything under control. Also the horse was very relaxed,I'm sure they wouldn't have put her on April if she was tense.
@xreeowwxLillix yes yiou are wrong some horses are unpredictable but some are amazing childrens ponies! my 14Hh is an amazing games pony! he will gallop withy uo untill the cows come home but stick a kid on him and he'll plod around like a donkey, safest pony in the world and he isnt small! he even did pony rides for 60 small kids at the village fair the other day
@xreeowwxLillix I was riding horses while I was aroud 4 years old. My feet doesn't ever touch the horse, but I was riding them... ;) Size doesn't really matters. Her feet are touching the horse, so it's all right! :)
@xreeowwxLillix any way i dont no these people but theres no need to be nasty if they think the horse is safe then let them do what they like its not anyone elses problem im 5"4 so dose that meen i cant ride a 16.2 ?
i jump one of the horses i ride 1.30 courses but noone can complane
my other ponys only 14.2 and he only jumps 95 but hes not safe hes 6 and hes still lurning but i trust him and at the end of the day if she falls of she has experianced people around her so :/ no prob there !
@xreeowwxLillix oh leave her alone if she wants to ride a bigger horse let her its none of your business I'm sure she is in very capable hands also and with there being a few people there nothing would happen to her.
Your daughter's adorable, cobs are very secure, and that teacher is doing everything right -- making her wear a hat and starting her on the lead rein. Good luck with the Knowledge!
Will do more vids, When i get 5 mins. Learning the knowledge at the mo to become a london black cabbie. So usually studying etc. So as i get a chance more will be posted.
1st off the the instructer should be standing still and also not saying walk on walkin all the time, if the horse is walking on, leave them. and also can stop saying trott as well over agin yet again the horse noes what its doing so leave them if they are doing it wright.
Oh she's adorable. How do I get my daughter to be more interested in her pony? She's just not really into it unless her little friends are around so she can boss them around and tell them how to brush the pony. And when she does rides she yells at me to let go of the pony. Help!
Try taking her places on it. She seems to like being shown off so take her along on a trail ride or something. If she's just too inexperienced then try teaching her how to ride on a lunge line like in the video. Try to get her to make friends with some girls at her stable (unless the pony is at home) or talk about taking her into a show. Hope this helps.
you know that makes sense...she likes being shown off. That would be a good way. "Isabelle, your friends are coming over to see you ride. Now put on your lipstick and get ready(she loves makeup now)" it actually makes sense. Thx!!!
She sounds a nightmare! I wouldn't push the pony onto her. I have 3 kids, two Love ponies?horse, one wouldn't ride if you paid her! I guess yours doen't really loke them either.
