the bird speaks with an accent like it was taught.is there videos of parrots speaking other launguages? im going to look it up now.so the bird mocks what it hears, does the bird use the works proper in context?im sure they do.good post!
OMG is she talking with a brittish accent??? that is super neat!!!! Never heard a bird speak with an accent before wow! She sounds like you! isnt that funny, mine say hello, what, no, shut up, stop. then they yell at eachother too!!
I'm pretty sure this macaw is NOT 23 wks... Baby macaws have dark eyes and they won't start to turn light grey until they are at least 1+ years old!! My Blue&Gold is about 14 months and her eyes are still pretty dark barely fading to the light grey.
no as i said in my description she just said that when we had her and she likes to say it to get our attention. She is not a pain in the ass she's a pleasure to live with
just talk a lot to him and talk with feeling in your voice and maybe use jestures with your hands etc. basically you need to make the whole thing seem exciting else he probably wont be interested. But macaws generally aren't great talkers so dont be supprised if he doesn't say much. He wont learn after a cirtain age much either. If he wants to bite you you may need to address and work on your relationship with him first before you can focus on teaching him things.
that's a bit of an ill informrd comment yes she can crack walnuts with her beak and it can be very powerful, but it's really only a wild or untame macaw that you are at risk from. Tame Macaws, especially mine, can use their beak very gently. I can put my fingers in her beak and she just nibbles them, but then that's because I know her and she knows me. If you're sinsible and know how to read her moods then there's no problem.
my daughter says wof when she sees a dog,she says meow when she sees a cat, but sense she has lived her whole life around parrots she says hello when she sees them.
Please read the description, we do not tell her stop it very often, she new the phrase when we had her so the person who reared her must have used it, but as the description says, she says it when we were out of the room to get attention because she thinks that we will think she's doing somthing naughty. She first came out with it when she climbed our curtains! half way up she looked at me and said 'Stop it!' out of the blue! shes a very clever girl and we love her very much.
hmm she must be about a year and a half now! she says so much more now she just talkls loads. Her latest words include 'PARROT!, what's that?, hello darling, hello there, doughnuts or just nuts, no, shut up, what is it? and some various other rambelings :o) I keep meaning to put some more updates videos on!
I bought a B+G macaw about a year ago, when we got it was seriously disturbed. As soon as anyone walked into the room it screeched at the top of its voice. [Neighbours commented on how it one upped my drum kit]. Anyway, 2 weeks later i had this bird on my shoulder, [with no wing clippings] outside. It flies, but never too far. B+G macaws r awesome, very intellegent they are like a mirror to their envrioment; your birdy seems to be pritty contempt!
They are expensive, but then although it means a lot of saving I think it's good realle becuse it means you have to be serious about getting one and caring for it properly to spend that much and also it makes it less easy for people to make a spontaneous purchase and then get fed up of the bird later.
Id love to own one, And im currently thinking about importing one form the staes or a african grey for 1500 total price. Australian breeders can not justify $4000 dollors, i think 1000 to-2000 is reasonable,
Not sure what that converts to in GBP, we paid £1,500 for ours. That is about $3000 US Dollars.
Be careful importing them, there are a LOT of scams in this industry and if so see people selling them at a price that seems to good to be true - it probably is. A lot of them offer a cheap price but will never ship you anything.
Just a bit of friendly advice :o) I know it's a lot of money but it's often worth paying more for one from a reputable breeder whom you can be sure has raised it well.
How the bird is raised is very important to it's future health and also it's temprement. Some may claim to 'hand rear' them but actually this means seringe feeding rather than spoon feeding. If they are offering them cheap there is a reason. If they are cheap then they are probably mass bread which means none of them will have had much one on one attention which they need to be a really friendly loving bird. I am so glad we did the right thing because she is such a wonderful personality.
I have a macaw and it is illegal to import macaws from the US. In Australia the starting price for Blue and Gold Macaws is $7,500 and you really do need to do your home work and make sure the bird was bred in Australia from a recognised breeder.
Wow Kechea is adorable!! Absolutely beautiful. Shes really good at words for like 23 weeks. How much did you pay for her? I wouldn't be able to care for such a bird of high maintenance, just curious.
