I have a degree in visual communications ( Printing) and I was outsourced out of my job. Now i am just a Lithosaur. I cant even find a job as a feeder here in Oregon.
PM52 is a poorman's machine. It's a GTO with more plastic in it (check the table lifting gears for instance). Older models (around 2000-2002 will also give you a hell of a time with the one way coupling on the ink roller). The feeder is rather old time, but simple and trustworthy. Overall a decent machine.
You're lucky you still have a job, most feeder operator positions have been completely eliminated. For the most part the pressman can run the entire press himself. That's what happend to my position.
@vab2112 Actually, i left my job when i moved to the UK which, in part, i could kick myself for. the printing industry is pretty freakin hard to get into here, at least for press operator position. they seem to have a lot of sales positions everywhere.
Vkotis, nice short to the point vid, LUV it ! Gonzales has NO Clue as you saw ! Good luck finding a press in the UK Maybe get your butt to germany and work for Heidelberg instead, you can get on the marketing team and be incharge of social media an post vids and tweeeetsss then Gonzales will eat his words !
@Netbum1 HAHA... yeah, i moved from the US to london almost 2 years ago and i haven't been able to get back into printing. I miss it too. the one job i know how to do well.
Gonzolez with the head dress, maybe you should be checking the ink ducts man? If I was the boss I would sack you for finding the time to record and post this video on YouTube.
hey buddy, one thing that i am not is a slacker at work. i do my job before i do anything else. that said, i checked the inks, i checked the waters, i checked the pull and i did everything that needed to be done before i even thought about whipping out my video camera. i've been running presses for 6 years, i should know. it was a huge run and taking 1 minute out to video tape the press didn't hurt anything. don't insult my intelligence man.
we just installed a 6 colour xl with aqueous at my firm. It runs really well. only thing is, it replaced 2 machines costing 10 jobs. We have to much work, but can't employ anyone new because of the redunancies. I run a 2007 6 colour cd74 perfecter plus coater.
yeah, cutting back costs and spending millions more on a new machine; sounds like the typical print shop :P I just moved to London, UK and i'm hoping i can find a print shop here to work in; still waiting for my registration to come though so i can work. i miss those big machines :(
Mate,I was not insulting you nor did I say you were a slacker. Its worth bearing in mind that if presses could run on their own then printers would be out of a job.I've been running presses for 25 years and Ive seen a few horror stories of jobs that ended up lining the waste paper bucket due to lack of attention. You are paid to watch the job; you were not watching the job when you were videoing.
Had my machine catch fire the other week. The ioniser in the delivery over heated and set fire to a plastic guide plate under the aqueous unit. Heidelburg still don't know why it happened. Anyone have trouble with IR circuit breakers overloading? Becoming a pain!
i would like to grease regularly.but where doin 4 / 10 hrs days and i start 3-1amonly person who does it is the guys on day shift.but thats what they get for wanting to run run run, and not takin care of the things on that press. god damn number crunchers we got just beat the shit out of this press
the morning shift guy on my press does maintenance every monday morning. he has the time to do all that stuff. i just get stuck with most of the work after i pick him up at 3pm and work until everything is done on the schedule usually at 12 or 1.friday i try to zip through everything to get out as early as possible. i hate being there late on a friday. but i do like all the over time i get. do you start at 3pm or am? i like the night shift better cause there are no big wigs walking around.
at least 27.00 an hr, these guys wont tell there rate of pay cuz people get mad at them ,, today my press was down cuz of the cam follower on the gear side of the pincer bar was shot, dropping sheets like crazy
buffalo ny. i guess SEK< is an error in the control cabinet, where all the circut boards are located, its a huge computer board that heidelberg replaced for us 3 yrs ago, lol last night the guys on day shift fucked up the pincer bar in unit 2 so the regiatration is all fucked up lol
oh man, the 74 that i run does some fucked up shit sometimes. out of nowhere one of the keys will either zero out or max out and to fix it i have to shut off the console:P i had to toss alot of sheets a few times because of it. and the fit like to move around alot. about a year ago it wasn't like that but its just getting worse. how much is the average pressman pay in NY?
yea u.v lamp in one, grafix makes it, its basically a grafix u.v system for the cooling part of it, that lamps been on fire 2 times since i've been there so our maint. team moved it above the perfecting drum in unit 2 works fine now. just a pain in the ass when we gotta change the lil blue suckers on the perfecting drum lol. do u guys ever get an SEK error on ur pressmans console? poress 18 is a 2001 model has taken a beatin up keeps on printing lol
my shop has all heidelbergs, the press im on has 6 color. u.v. lamp in unit 1, 2 coaters 7 and 9 and 3 u.v decks at extended delivery plus HAK we run board thats 0.36. to 0.12. we even got a new 5 color, that has a single belt driven vaccum feeder we got 4 ...5 color presses 2 6 color presses both u.v and 1 4 color kick ass shit, matter of fact vkotis, ur press is exactly like mine =D does ur press perfect too?
My plant has two 1993 CD 102 presses. On a number of occasions with the right stock and a large order we have managed to print 100,000 sheets in an 8 hour shift on a machine with a max speed of 13,000. Our presses' sweet spot is generally between 10,500 and 11.000 and we run stock between .016" and .030" with the usual being .019"
this shop has an XL, a 2 color 102, 6 color 102, 6 color 74 and 5 color 52. the XL is actually at another location but they always run it at 18k an hour. every other press is a pain in the ass to keep it going steady:P
I used to run a 8 color speedmaster UV. We have about 9 of them in our shop. We have 10 Heidelberg and 15 Akiyamas. Anything from a 4 color,6 color, 7 color, 8 color and 2 40" akiyama which is what i run.
i dont know how much is that but i work on one really like this one but we have to put the ink by hand :P and i won 450€ month :( oh and we dont get plus than 12k s/h
com quanto eu preciso para comprar um brinquedo desses? 1 , 2 .000.000?

Love the CP-2000,and Preset-Plus feeder.
We didn't have extended delivery(not my decision),but still a nice press.
