  • Man, if I only had clothes like this here, I'd walk like the proudest (wo)man on Earth! XDDD lol, I'd rather wear this than those "trendy" variations -

"duct tape", "duct tape and birthday paper", "bithday paper and spam", "spam, spam, duct tape and spam", "spam, bacon, duct tape and spam with spam" XDDDD

  • I want to hold a bird of prey like Jim.

  • Great song and video, but the description... argh! xD

  • By far, one of the best Simple Minds songs! They were at their absolute best here! Jim and Charlie looked great!

  • @TheLourdes2009 Robin is looking well too.

  • I cannot get enough of this song. I think it's my favorite Simple Minds song of all time. Great video too!

  • I never realized that Burchill was an early Ibanez endorser... those pre RGX/Vai shape Ibanez he plays here must be rare now

  • I remember painting to this song when I was like 29 or 30...still makes me sing out loud

  • Sichel65, why don't you like this video? I think it's one of the Minds' best! I like the various clothing changes Jim and Robin go thru during it................that's what makes it cool, IMHO.

  • I love this song with Robin Clark , she was a gorgeous black lady with one of the best voices I've ever heard!!!

  • simple minds pure magic

  • great lead vocals and back up vocals. love 'em. simple minds' music will always will stand to me as one of the best bands around

  • THE CHELSEA´S SEQUOIA BUILDING 36/46-3

BLADES OF GRASS ARE ROCK AND WALK BETWEEN ROUTES OF THE MCKENZIELUMPS OF LEAFS ROLL ON THOSE FOOTPATHS LIKE ROADWAYS

FLOWER PETALS FLOAT, AND OVER THE AIR AROMA AND COLOUR

SENSES OF LOVE INHABIT THE DOMAIN EXTENSIVES

AND PIECES OF HIS HEART ARE NAIL IN TEARS WITHOUT PAIN.

  • P.S. Happy birthday Mr Kerr (9th July).

  • This is my all-time fav song and video (best band: the Minds; best director: Zbig Rybczynski). This is the other Minds song that brings tears to my eyes, more so than even New Gold Dream.

  • THE CHELSEA´S SEQUOIA BUILDING 37/46-2

    ( UB40-MANY RIVERS TO CROSS )

  • What a talented band!! greta playing graet tunes!!!

  • i just discovered this video and song; watching it makes me smile :)

  • @bebo She look's more like a black pat butcher off eastenders than grace jones!

  • Awsome video!! Saw these guys live in Cleveland back in the late 80's. Great concert too.

  • The song is great & was very underrated. The video is weird theme but really cool how they made the imagery of the band moving around, sort of like time lapse.

  • Simple Minds' best song ever! Thanks for posting!

  • HIt #9 rock, #28 pop in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • Great Video... Timeless!

  • This is so weird! My mom told me to look it up. >.< It gave me nightmares! xD JK

  • jim kerrs dancing is how every scottish person dances truth

  • once upon a time this music was like a salvation, even now

but when a-ha came, with their music who hunt me high and low

i thought that i had a simple mind with lots of aha's xD ;)

  • thats a ugly ibanez head....

  • these lyriucs this is true poetry in motion eh

  • This is how it is done. (Aramis Deceives) Look carefully inside. See?

  • I love this song and the video is very hypnotic in it's own way.

  • i just noticed that this dude was rockin the mullet way before the '90s. great song. '80s rule!!!!

  • Muito bom este som!

Brazil champion world soccer 2010!!! Yohooo!!!

  • remember most of us were trippin in the 80's which explains the video LOL

  • remember most of us were trippin during the 80's so that explains the video LOL!!!

  • Oh and what's with the hot pink guitar? What's all that about?

  • Simple minds seems like such a mixture of U2, Depeche Mode, Rick Ashton, and the Cars with a little bit of Devoe thrown in for good measure.

  • I am very lightened up....I just think the video is unintentionally hilarious. Looks like Jim got most of those clothes off the $5 discount rack at LL Bean

  • @MrsBlaileen1 Substance before style - always...song has tremendous substance regardless of your opinion concerning the style...

  • Supposed to be an opposition song against Maggie Thatcher. Video doesn't portray the fact though!

  • Of course this is just my opinion, but I think this is a stupid video. But the song is the best!!

  • And what the hell is up with the birds/eagle/whatever? How this has anything to do with the lyrics is beyond me. Very laughable video.

  • This looks like it was edited on an Apple IIe. What a remarkably cheesy video, with the pompous 80's posing by Kerr and the loopy dancing. Thank goodness the music has aged well.

  • @MrsBlaileen1 Probably need to lighten up and appreciate the video in the context of the time it was made...

  • Hope emerge from the space

    gloss on eyes , blue

    birds to the skyies

love for the infinite time .

    days pass colors

    months of accelerated images

    years of continuous eye

    millennia in heavenly feelings .

  • The Chelsea´s sequoia building 36/46-3

Blades of grass are rock and walk between routes of the Mckenzie

lumps of leafs roll on those footpaths like roadways

flower petals float , and over the air aroma and colour

senses of love inhabit the domain extensives

and pieces of his heart are nail in tears without pain .

  • great song

  • Btw, i gues that the most of the commenters are around 40 in these comments, and i like to know how you all think of going out these days, and if you stil do, and if you still got some places were they still play ''our music'', or are you all complaining that there should be more places were, let's say 35+ people can go out again?

  • "ok Jim in this shot we're going to have you with an eagle strapped to your arm" "are you sure? what if he tries to fly off?" "we'll strap the fucker down don't worry".. "ok Jim same thing but this time put on that funky native american jacket" "eagle again?" "no this time we'll use that OWL over there".... "right Jim this is the killer shot the climax of the song..we'll use a parakeet ..on your hips!" "we strapping him down?" "No need when he flies off you roll and lay on your back...and SCENE"

  • @dagnut

That is hilarious, possibly the best video synopsis ever...someone finally gets it ;)

  • To the Hun aka Rangers racist. U2, Enya, Van Morrison, Sinead O' Connor are Irish acts too. Stick to Tragic ,whoops I mean Travis and Garbage (appropriate.)

P.S. Garbage opened up for U2 a few yeras back at MSG and no one cared. I'll be seeing U2 in front of 90,000 in July here in NY/ NJ . Where is Simple Minds for the Simple Minded going to be douchebag? P.S. Your tiny dank island sucks compared to the US.

  • Timeless music but not timeless dancing, clothes, or hairdues. HAHAHA

  • fuckin brilliant, scottish music, is the best,,,simple minds, deacon blue, garbage, the veiw, primal scream, texas, travis, annie lennox,,,mark knopfler who was born in glasgow and probably the best guitar player of al time,,, IF ITS NOT SCOTTISH ITS SHITE,, unles you are stven clifford whos a ashcroft rip off with 300 bebo pals,,,lmao,,, fuck yer boyzone jedward and the corrs,, i,d still stick ma dick in the cranberries singers arse though, since she wants kevins cock in her mouth

  • Does anyone else notice that this guy claps his wrist instead of his hands?

  • way ahead of there time what a voice i loved the 80s

  • even after all these years I still find this song to be BRILLIANT!

  • Great song and interesting vid

  • HaHa. You'll be laughed at by any rational music fan gary. I like Simple Minds, this song as well as glittering prize. U2 are still relevant and selling out stadiums today. Lay off the meds bro.

  • simple minds better than u2 any day

  • Agreed!!!!

  • @garyperkins07 ...why do simple minds fan have to slag off U2...it's just bullshit....they're both good bands..............U2 have the genius of the Edge....simple minds don't have that kind of musical genius......which gave U2 a more distinctive sound....perhaps a reason for they're greater sucess

  • I love this video. It's so unselfconscious. Better days.

  • Charlie Burchill STILL looks like this. That man hasnt ages and still has the hair! Wish I had!

  • This is still one of my favorite 80s albums.

  • @nitedrive great band, great solo of Jim Kerr&CO...

  • Never mind the owls and outfits!!! I love this record and these were very happy times. How I love Simple Minds xx

  • @Dugupkay Yeah this came out at a very memorable time in my life as a young teen. The video has stayed with me all these years and have only just rediscovered it here. Yeah a bit bizzarre but its only right for the era!

  • Great song but a poor video.....

  • Love this song every minute !

  • This song and band are great!

  • Any video with Owls and falconry in it is a hands down winner in my eyes

  • What about the Eagle anyway?! õ.o'

  • This is such a captivating video. I love the way Jim Kerr dances, I ask myself, who had those moves first Bono or Jim? The whole Once Upon A Time album is brilliant. To me, it doesnt sound dated, timeless Rock.

  • @wendileona 4 SURE TIMELESS ROCK. THIS BRINGS BACK GREAT MEMORIES.

  • @wendileona I agree so much! I could watch that video all day! Nothing wrong with it as far as I'm concerned.

  • She reminds me of Grace Jones...Beautiful and Sexy...Fucking FABULOUS SONG!

This was a time when music was REAL and meant something...

  • @bebowilliams

i'm glad that more people realize that music from the 80's is way more better than today's crap. i'm 43, and some of my friend call me mister 80's, and you know what?

I'm proud of it! I'm proud that i grew up in the 80's with bands like simple minds.

sometimes i wish that i was younger theese days, but not when it comes to

the taste the youth these days have, because i dont'want to swap with them, not even for a million bucks!

  • @bebowilliams sadly yes

  • No Global Warming, No Terrorist attacks, No Huge Financial Crisis... just the mean ol' Russians with the cold war and special interests buying Congress and selling out the country at this time!

  • I think this video is amazing for the times!!!

    And I love his mullet!

  • sweet...this video sucks!!!!!!!!! but I love this song. its my #3

  • good times for jim kerr.. still gonna be like that...

  • This was when I gave up on Simple Minds & stuck with everything pre Once Upon A Time.but looking at it now it's not that bad... it has that cheesy mid 80s production but it's a good song and the video is quite charming really

  • Ohly hit #28 in Billboard. Should've gone higher in the US. How'd it do in the UK?

  • UK #9 :-)

  • simple minds my youth love m

  • Great video, you critics don't know crap.

  • You don't have to be a critic to find the video a bit lame.

Great song and everything but the video just seems......Well........It isn't in the same league as the "Love Song" or "Glittering Prize" ones is it?

  • Pants video, but fantastic song, one of their best.

  • i'm rediscovering Simple minds and i have to say it's so good!! they were such a creative band and their sounds fit perfectly with the 80s , best years forever

  • 1986, what a year!

  • brilliant song...they are the best of pop!

  • them "sweaters" they got on look like those cheap ones I used to buy at the flea market.

  • seriously...How did they do that?

  • Good question.Just superb camera work i guess!

  • great great clip AND song...go 1986 !

  • simple tune adding it loads a times makes ppl think fk that u nut its a gd 1 tune without net classic mmmmmmmmm challenge on music of land or ppl not net moves bring iton

  • Actually....

Great video (Zbig Rybczynski), but the music...ehh.

  • nice cardigan Jim :)

  • great great great song! i love them!

  • Stars will fall out for you...

  • great keyboards sounds!!

  • I do so love Simple Minds. Their music is just so amazing but I must say that I did like the 80's clothes and styles. Way better than todays styles with pants hanging off the butt so the undies hang out, severely baggy ass pants, hoodies everywhere, bling bling. In my opinion , everybody wants to look the same today. I find that boring. At least in the 80's , there was a mixture of styles not the same ol' thing. 80's forever!!

  • @juniebird72 hello, you may know me lolol!! I think you do but I ain't sure!! lol!! I dress 80s and look 80s people stare sometimes but hey!! this is one of my all time favourite songs I love Simple minds this is real real music......

  • @83Brokenwings You know, your name does sound familiar. I do believe we have talked on here before!! lol I am a total 80's chick all the way. No one will ever change that about me. I think the 80's had the coolest styles all together. Nice to meet someone who agrees with me and is an 80's chick like me!!!

  • Amen!

  • As a country we have lost something since these times, I don't know what it is, perhaps optimism? Perhaps I grew up and found the world cynical and cheap, maybe it's both?

  • Of course it's cheap...it's from China.

  • wicked video, musta took ages 2 make. prob y only 3 of the members starred in it lol

  • Really cool clothes too. I want that american indian motif chinchilla coat and short jacket.

  • The music's still awesome, that's all that matters.

  • Anything that sonically and visually doesn't resemble anything in the 21st century can only be a good thing, and this is a great thing.

  • Yes...images and sounds have become too digital, unrealistic and unsustaining. The mystery in things is lacking. I'm really craving low-def.

  • I know the clothes were awful, but hey that was the 80's.I look at photos now and how bad I looked and not in a good way.I love this video because it was so creative how many times they had to film each person and piece it together and then make it look continuous, pure genius

  • Wow. Dollar Bill leggings, owls, and aviators? Makes a girl wish she'd lived in the 80s.

  • music this good is gone!

  • JUST...THE BEST

  • this video is lost in the eighties... ahahahahah

  • this song is STILL kickin' HUGE ass!

  • I think I may have to get that jacket at the beginning though lol

  • an incredible band who make fantastic music but make the most shit videos.what were you thinking jim with those stripey trousers?

  • back then all they had was vhs tapes (no computers/software) and editing was a very time consuming expensive process..a lot of clips were a 1 chance edit. sometime you will see dodgy edits and mistakes :)

and at the time his clothes would have been so avant garde.....give it a few more years and some wanker will "discover" this as the latest fashion...i did have some pretty cool stuff back then as well . it was the best time to be clubbing and it was all new back then :) m48

  • ha.. spot on ..

  • hey this was cutting edge back in the day...

  • Jim Kerr has the best voice, ever. And Charlie Burchill is a guitar god!

  • in 1 word= INCREDIBLE

  • cool

  • But this is still probably the best post-Live Aid song SM did.

Will never beat Sweat In Bullet, Theme For Great Cities, Hunted & The Hunted, Glittering Prize, Speed Your Love To Me, Kick Inside Of Me, though!

  • To this day, I still don't know why Jim Kerr ever bothered trying to mime.

  • great times in 80s, no computers or mobile phones, just great fashion and music / on vynal records, standing in the record booths in the music shops listening to my fav songs, just fab!!

  • Great song...what happened? Where did she go? She is amazing!!!

  • Ole Jimmy had it all, good looks, cool hair, pitch perfect vocals & a BEAUTIFUL back up singer with a great wardrobe. Brings back the Good old days, to be sure! No worries back then, too young!

  • i wore a black box jacket ,so cool then

  • I miss the 80s SO bad, especially music like this.

  • L'apoteosi della pacchianità, visuale e musicale

  • This song kicks HUGE ass!

  • music this good is gone!

  • This video tripped me out the first time I saw it and then I wanted to see it again and again.

  • My !..

  • love his outfits

  • Bloody hell, this takes me back to my bedroom when I was about 15. I kicked the arse out of the "Once upon a time" album. Good stuff.

  • Good times, yeah?

  • Fantastic group!!!!
