how the wd40 can "kill" bearings or polyurethane wheels? after a while dust and grease make a abrasive mix eroding the bearings, wd40 keeps out moisture and last for a long time; ok you may use wd40 to clean them and later use the lithium grease so you will have a super wheels

It has some interesting effects on polyurethane as well, breaking open the closed cells of the poly and making them brittle. The translucent poly wheels are less susceptible to this sort of damage, but not immune. The short version is that WD-40 is an "enemy of the skate".

The downside of precision bearings is they tend not to be as durable and are less tolerable to contamination. As others have said, give up the WD-40. Try a lithium spray grease perhaps. Of course, if the bearings are sealed you are wasting your time spraying anything on them. They have factory grease in them and don't require any additional lubrication. Just keep em out of water if you can.

first off everyone knows that WD-40 wrecks bearings. second your statement that one little push and you will go really fast is inaccurate. a good bearing will maintain ur pushing speed not make you go faster then when u push off the ground. however bones reds are good bearing for there price. just dont do what this kid did. clean them with a solvent. and re lube them with 2 -3 drops of cheap bearing lube.

WD-40 is not "Fine" for this sort of application. The factory lubricant is there to protect the bearings from wear and to give the best performance over time. The free spinning test is a meaningless test., you have just removed not only a lot of the factory lubricant, what you have not removed is now contaminated. and the life of the bearing is greatly reduced.

There are lots of high quality lubricants out there but they are task specific.

WD-40 also oxidises with age and becomes sticky

well it looks like i was beat to the punch about putting oil on bearings, and WD-40 is the worste to put on it. but i will at least explain why its so bad...all oils are basicly a degreaser...because the oil thins the grease out, thus it runs out. WD-40 is not just an oil but also has other degreaser in it. so when you put the WD-40 on the bearings, all the grease goes the way of the Dodo, and oil should only be used on bearings if there is a constant supply of oil as the oil will disapear fast
