  • Just think that this every day, anywhere in the world happened! It's horrible...

  • Gott...

  • This is embarrassing, Denmark should know better...

  • You can tell how irritated the horse is, especially at around 3:38. Watch his hind left leg.

I don't understand how people can even think that rollkur looks good. *shakes head*

  • I'm disgusted to call these people professionals!!!

  • TeamOsterberg - Supporting something simply because a "big name" endorses it is ignorant.

  • Wow. I'm amazed by how cowardous you people are. Sitting on youtube, hitting down on a persn you don't know anything about. Patrik is one of the world's most talented riders, he's very gentle and loves his horses very much. If he thinks the rollkur works for him, I support him. If anyone of you knew the proper function of the bit, you'd know that if he has his tongue over the bar, as he does in this video, he could easily protest if he felt any discomfort. Does he? No. Can't force 600 kgs.

  • @TeamOsterberg Most talented riders?! haha gentle and loves his horses?!?! If he loved them he wouldn't be using Rolker as a training method!! and yes you can force a horse into submission!! This is disgusting and sickening that people see this and think its ok!

  • @TeamOsterberg oh bullshi* just because you think he is a "talented rider" doesnt make it right-we all know the "proper function of the bit" so shut up

  • @TeamOsterberg and you can clearly see the horse is in pain-go back to square one and pay attention to your horse

  • @TeamOsterberg You're joking right? "If he thinks rollkur works for him", well of course it does! He puts 2 bits in the horses mouth which gives the rider the strength to literally force the head down. Rollkur may make the horse look 'Oh how pretty' (although I know better and says it looks painful), but it gives serious, permanent damage to the neck, down to the back and then affects the hindlegs. NO ONE that cares and loves their horses would ever do this, or am I wrong? No.

  • wow. I ride dressage, and havent ever seen something like this. Wonder if this guy knows what he is doing to his horses neck and tongue? You want your horse to carry its body and head in a way the muscles can handle, and in its natural form. Not like this at all..

  • I can't belive that he's Swedish...

  • @RyttarnaMedHumor Makes me ashamed of my country, to be honest. Thank god not all our 'talented' riders are like him.

  • Something gives me the impression that after this guy watched this video, he "fixed" the problem with a tight noseband.

  • toll, spondored by LVM...!!!

  • & NIEMAND macht dort was !

  • All to win .Dressage is suppose to be teamwork. This ain't it.Very sad.Whether its western pleasure with peanut rollers with heads being tied up high all night their stall before a show or Dressage with rolikur or Tennessee walkers with soring with chains/chemicals for the big lick.I could go on and go.Very sad indeed

  • @parrot2me so true! very sad what people are doing to their horses to win competitions :-(

  • that's so awful!!!

I also don't like the way riders keep their horses' neck arched with the short reins - it must give the horses so much nech ache.

  • fuck Rollkur

    wasn Arsch

  • Don't make your horse bend like that with human force, he will bow for you when you ride with your heart, not with the urge of winning and money.

  • Dreckskerl!!!!

Scheisse!

  • This guy is obviously an amatur! Not being able to trust his horse, using cruel methods to control it. Riding is not about controlling it is about patnership, something he lacks.

  • @YankeeBizz saddly these "amateurs" keep winning world championships and respond to noone

  • I had it . This is no real horse riding :(

  • Ughh my own neck almost hurts when I look at this. This is not training, this is just cruel and sad.

  • western pleasure not better...see "Reichert Celebration" on youtube !

  • Grotesque and infinitely cruel. This must be recognised for what it is and JUDGES must be EDUCATED as to what is acceptable.Do they not read the press ROLKUR is OUT!

  • I´m embarrassed to be Swedish...

  • can i shoot him?

  • @THismydream12

    Yes... Please do -__-

This riding actually makes me sick. Why would anyone dream of training a horse this way? It is just so cruel, unnatural and quite obviously going to damage the horse, both physically and emotionally! Those 90 people who have liked this video are insane, sick, and probably don't know anything about horses! This guys can't ride, to me, riding is not so much about positioning, but about how you treat the horse and how you work together to make progress.

  • Seriously...you call this a "deep STRETCH frame"? This by no means is stretching. This horse's neck is wound up tighter than a slinky. This horse is obviously not in a natural position, no horse should go around with his chin touching his chest. In a true stretch, a horse would have his neck stretched out in front long and low with nose vertical or even a little out in front. The kind of riding shown in this video must be stopped!

  • this horse is super supple and strong over his back, his tail is relaxed and his ears are half mast. his gaits are fluid and springy. the rider is very effective and maintains great connection even in this deep stretch frame. seriously you people need to get a life besides criticizing something you've learnt about through yt videos and a books. get out and ride a some quality horses to the gp level, then come back and form your opinions.

  • @horsegirlanna The horse is very clearly behind the vertical throughout the entire video, meaning that he is being held in hyperflexion or rollkur. This is an absolutely cruel method of training and riding that causes extreme amounts of harm to the horse's musculoskeletal system.

If you believe that this horse is still being treated humanely and trained properly after seeing this than I truly feel bad for any of the horses that you work with or ride.

  • @MagnoliaDreaming I have worked extremely hard to get to where I am in my riding, and I have made many huge sacrifices in order to keep learning. I also used to hate LDR, but with experience riding athletic horses I now understand practice. It is not for all horses or phases of training, but with some it is indispensable. I love my horse more than anything in the world. He is a happy athlete who does a variety of work to perform at his best, and he is 1000% sound (no maintenance stuff).

  • @MagnoliaDreaming I agree that hyperflexion is damaging over the long term, but high performance dressage is hard on their bodies in general. One cannot perform at the top for ever, as is the case in any sport (just look at top gymnasts, their careers are even shorter!). These horses are very well cared for during and after their years of hard work. I am not yet professional and I still have lots to learn, but I am a good rider who is totally dedicated to my horses and sport.

  • Don't get me wrong. I think this is HORRIFYING. And the video makes me want to slap the HELL out of that idiot.

    But -

I just wanted to tell you that my horse also dangles his tongue out of his mouth when ridden. Saying Scandic's tongue was "limp" is a bit of an exaggeration. When it lolls out of the mouth it lolls. My babe is an OTSB and he was taught to run with his tongue dangling, so it's just a habit. To me that isn't the shocking part of the video. The rollkur is.

  • poor baby!

  • I am sick of this people called "professional riders". they aren't professional, they aren't even riders. disgusting.

  • usch!

  • jävla djurplågeri :o

    fitta på er

  • Where is the hate-button?

  • Why dind't you warn him?instead of keep on filming,

  • Does he check the tongue and then continue to ride?!

  • stop it

    please stop it

its cruel i cant see it longer i hate all guys who do this its really a problem for all horses who have such monsters as owners

(sry but my english is very bad xD i hope you know what i mean)

  • Übles Gewaltreiten!

  • Thanks Anky!!! You started with this shit!

These people must be disqualified for a life-time. Just horrible!!!!!!

Why is the FEI not doing anything about this abuse???

  • Well, I wish somebody would do that to the rider. He shoul walk and work one day - only one day - with his head and neck positioned like the horse's. I'll bet he'll never again ride like this.

  • why his tongue is so blue...? :/

  • Look at the horses eyes... :(

  • @WastedAussieYouth It's people like you who can stand to do this to animals. This is just wrong on every level there is - just because we can treat horses this bad, doesn't mean people should.

If there's someone who should get some facts straight, it's you. Read something about rollkür. And if you truly love animals, you can't say that it should be allowed.

  • STUPID ROLLKUR!!! He can get a horse in hand without it, not to mention a passage or piaffe! And the blue tounge is just, no, it's unacceptable.

  • This video was sent to me, all I say is what an asshole and everyone that watches this crap and pays to win or watch is part of the problem.

  • Scandic is one of the best movers in that warm up arena, and this method of training is highly effective and when done right can make the horse move brilliantly.

It's highly doubtful that using the Rollkur can turn a horse's tongue blue, most likely his tongue did get caught between the bits and turned blue from the pressure used to apply the Rollkur, but the tongue can turn blue just from using a curb bit.

Get your facts right before saying anyone who uses Rollkur should be banned or killed

  • Bah !

  • This is a disgusting video, this man should be forever banned from competitions or owning a horse ever. There is not heart in this only the drive to make the horse obedient. The horse should do these maneuvers because they trust and love you and not because you suffocate them into submission.

  • Pauvre con.

  • this is criminal. such an abuse should be banned. those rider belong to jail! shame on you! disgusting!

  • I'm so ashamed of being swedish right now!

  • this is horrible!

  • "sorry not the throax correction the trachea (windpipe) of horse so there the word is out Anky

  • I will tell you the sercet of Rollkur, trainers use this to restrict oxygen to the brain of the horse the horses throax closes up. With less oxygen to the brain the horse then becomes calm and lightheaded and slows down because of to much carbon monoxide in the blood then the horse learns to be submissive to the rider's every comand because of fear of suffcation. Just like when a lion attacks a zebra it will go for the throax and then the drop down so liken these people to beasts of the feld.

  • Hyperflexion to this extent makes me want to shoot people in the face.

  • this is why i prefer riding western , the horse is meant to have a long neck they are not forced to make unnatural movments at all. As beautiful as dressage can be when done right i still dont find it humane

  • @catherinecorpse89 really?then check another Epona tv video about Craig Schmersal sadly winner of silver at reining world cup 2011..would you call those natural movements?Unfortunately no discipline is better than others as far as abuse is concerned.I would certainly know what part of this guy's body I would like to turn blue!

  • "Brutality begins where skill ends"

  • Horrible!!!!

  • That poor, poor horse. Just watching this makes me want to cry for him and all the other horses out there being forced into Rollkur...it's just so unnatural. The poor thing look so stilted in his movement as well - that does not look like a horse enjoying his work. And no wonder! Poor thing =(

  • :S ........... i just cant say more speakless

  • How can this even happen??? Where are all the people responsible for this event?? This should never ever happen!!!

The sadest thing of all, is that young people are watching this and think it is OK, because a "famous" rider is doing it!! Where the **** are we hedding with all this abuse to our horses?????

  • poor little Scandic,,im so sorry for this horse ,,:((

  • Anky says if a horse doesn't want to do something it wont do it! OMG I think if that horse could speak it would be screaming. It is a terrible training method, cruel to the horse and its natural frame, this is a form of abuse and the authorities are letting it happen in front of their very eyes. Instead of LOOKING FOR CASES OF CRUELTY in domestic homes, why not just stop this? SIMPLE

  • It is so sad....... the worst thing is that all people are watching and nobody is pulling him down of this poor horse...

  • I want to just knock the hell out of that guy. Proof that idiots are obviously running the show. When things like this are allowed in warm-up it reflects the character of the people involved. Most of my students have quit dressage because of crap like this! Good riding is seldom seen in the higher levels anymore! Pull ! Pull! Spur with every beat! I just hate them!! Someone help those poor horses! Stand up for what is right!

  • The horse is also ridden way too round

  • Should have been booted right then and there. No excuse for using such an artificial and cruel method on ANY horse.

  • I'm a shit rider so I will make my horses nose touch his chest because now it looks like I know what I'm doing...hur derp

this is disgusting, how can anyone watch this with out ripping those reins out of his hand and giving the rider a good floggin'

  • Give the horse its head :| it doesn't look good or make him a good rider so why do it?

  • This horse sticks his tongue out most likely as he has too little space in his mouth because he has to thick bridles, but the hyperflexion can also cause it.

This horse is absolutely stunning and Patrik should be punished for being such an ignorant idiot. No horse deserves this treatment, you should respect these beautiful creatures.

  • maybe i'm stupid.. but why do horses always put their tounges out during rollkur/hyperflexion?

disgusting it is, what people do to their animals.

  • Oh My Fucking God. What a wanker! how can anyone do that to an animal :(

  • Wow, rollkur much? =/ How stupid, this gives dressage a bad name. Dressage is supposed to be graceful and fun to watch, not torture the horse and the people watching.

  • What a fucking wanker! How could anyone be this cruel ? I'd love to stick that bit in his mouth, sit on him with spurs and make him work like this for hours. Making him stick his head right into his chest and all. What a wanker. He deserves to rot in hell! He should be banned from riding and keeping all animals, no animal deserves this! It's abuse. /: It's wrong. It shouldn't happen. Ever. /:

  • That asshole in the video is Patrik Kittel. He deserve to be hit by a bus,.... at least 3 of them. Watching this video made me really sad :(

  • Comment removed

  • when you look at the other horses and riders you can see hes the only one using rollkur

  • omg this is hurting him so much

  • arghh I saw him 3 weeks ago in germany and I was like wtf that`s the "blue tounge guy", that fucking horse abuser and I was so happy that he didn`t win in germany !!

  • -.- Sin something we should do with him sometimes

  • Why didn't somone go to the officals and complain? He is definetly breaking all rules of conduct. Poor Suffering Horse!

  • That is disgusting. I'm only a Novice level rider and even I can tell that the horse is behind the bit by a mile! That's just horrible. Imagine how painful this would be on the horse's neck muscles. The prick should be charged for animal cruetly.

  • That's cruel!

  • Just the point alone that the horse is looking at it's toes, should to point enough to stop this 'technique'!!!

  • god that horses head is just stationary, it must have such a headache! why do people do this? I've seen great dressage performances where the horses head was on the vertical not under, and it looked sooooo much better. rollkur just looks painful :[

  • that's disgusting.

he should be put in jail for cruelty of animals.

  • there are so many people, but nobody notices or stops that kinkiness...

  • okay he rides pretty harshly and yes it has accured again at WEG (unpublished) but i hate is the fact that isabelle wert gets banned from competing for a year through drugs then can just walts back in the big ring like nuffin has happened. I am a dressage groom and friends of mine have seen them put poo in saychmo's water so he didnt drink it at Achen and it is public knowlege in the dressage world. how can she be alowed to carry on? she should be banned from keeping horses surely?

  • I couldn't even get through the whole video. It made me SICK. It goes against all the classic principles of dressage and I cannot understand how any judge could let such riders/trainers get so far on the show circuit. Truly discouraging for dressage riders who want to train correctly and sad for those horses who work SO hard to please their riders...rider who are putting them in that situation. I have no more words to express my sadness...

  • This , I think, is the result of "so called " training aids (draw reins) in the wrong hands. The rider seems to think his horse is working well. I am BHS trained, and in my opinion, humble as it may be, the horse is overbent, on the forehand, and the picture of horse and rider as a whole is dreadful! The animal doesn't seem to be able to see where it is going! HOW DID IT QUALIFY FOR THIS EVENT?!!!! Shocking!

  • How disgusting! Its torture!

  • that's just unbelievable...such riders shoul be forbidden to have a horse and ever train horses again!

  • this is quite simply horse torture.

  • goodness...it`s not only patrik..look at isabell werth and many of the jumping riders..they did it years ago! it`s not ok.....but why should patrik be the one

    they all suspect

  • @ohrabdruck Maybe because he didn't care enough to stop after he leaned forward and saw his horse's tongue hanging out, but chose to continue this distorted form of riding?!!

And worse...for not knowing the difference between a horse in a natural outline, and this!

  • that is horrible! poor horse!!

Look from 3:37 - the horse tries to kick after the rider - a certain sign that it is very uncomfortable!

  • This is plainly unacceptable. This made me sick. Yes, everybody on the internet is like "dressage is NOT cruel!" and such. But I would advise them to look at this. What do you see? Him loving his horse and respecting it? No. I see him forcing submission. I bet this horse would hurt him if it wasn't so behaved. Yes, dressage is okay to an extent. But once your horse can't breath, you've got a problem.

  • @horseobsessed7890 This is not an example of someone practicing dressage, this is an example of someone practicing cruelty, which unfortunately occurs in every equine discipline. In any equine sport you will find people who try to force horses that do not have the natural ability to perform at the level the rider desires to perform anyway using cruel and unnatural techniques, and whose only priority is winning. It is not a problem that is somehow inherent in, or exclusive to dressage.

  • @lola26granola Sorry if it sounded like I was ripping on dressage - I meant that forcing moves like this is unacceptable. And like someone else said, this isn't dressage.. I said "dressage is okay to an extent," I meant practicing dressage like this ^ is horrible, but if you do it correctly, its alright with me xD And yeah, I used to ride at a reining barn, and they would practice this "technique" on their horses too. Sadly, this was not the only means of cruelty they used. This is why I moved.

  • @horseobsessed7890 thank you for clarifying. I'm not touchy about it because I ride dressage, I just think that it is important to recognize and work towards eliminating cruelty in all equine sports. It drives me absolutely nuts that someone is not only willing to cheat (an all too common occurrence in any sport), but are willing to be cruel to another animal, an animal, without whom they could never get the recognition they are so desperate for in the first place.

  • @horseobsessed7890 This isnt dressage...this is a short cut to a form that some what looks like dressage. Dressage is pure horse, not artificial like this.

  • @JazperTheEventer I agree.. I didn't mean to hate on dressage... they use this in showjumping, reining, sometimes pleasure, pretty much everything -__-

  • @horseobsessed7890 Thank you for recognizing it in other diciplines, it is used alot in showjumping and in a more severe way in pleasure. I live in ohio and go to quarterhorse congress every year and see some really bad uses of this method (event in 4H). Horses loose all personality after this training :'( its horrible

  • OMG He is a fucking asshole.

I couldn´t believe it . OMG thats so horrible.

    Fu*k you Patrik !!!!!

    You are such an ass

  • disgusting

  • wumbo89 horse breathe throught the nose not mouth!!

  • That's what happens when you cut off a horse's ability to breathe adequately. These people should be ashamed of themselves.

  • this is absolutly vile. he should be ashamed. he knew exactly what he was doig because he stops ad tucks the tongue back in the poor things mouth!!

    what an absolute knob jockey.

  • @SarahNoble1998

    Agreed crewlty at its worst.

  • @SarahNoble1998

Agreed crewlty at its worst. This rider should be not allowed to compete!!!

  • @SarahNoble1998 I was there when it happened. and it went on for half an hour. Everyone was appalled, and several went to report it.. Sadly nothing happened :( It is such a disgrace!!

  • @GingerxStar07 actually after seeing this video the FEI banned this practice, as they rightfully should have earlier on. People like this are cruel and are embarrassments to equestrians everywhere.

  • my greatest pleasure, would be to rip him off that horse, force the bridle into HIS mouth and make him fell the kind of pain that he is putting this horse through. Absolutly disgusting, Animal welfare, where are you??? this shit should be stopeed and outlawed IMMEDIATLY!!! this is not horsemanship and anyone who thinks otherwise are animal torturors.

  • when you see mark todd doing dressage at badminton or someone like him you can see the horse using his who back and he looks relaxed and he's using himself. that horse is swishing his tail a lot which means he's pissed off. his hocks ae underneath him but he's not really using himself

  • dressage is all about getting the horse to move naturally while adding the weight of the rider done through correct riding. this is obviously not correct riding. Dressage is an art, and art ends where force begins. rollkur is a horrible force placed upon horses and it is abuse. if you can't get your horse to submit you you in a natural way maybe you shouldnt be riding at all! this causes so much destruction to a horses physical and metal well being. i pity these horses that have to go thru this

  • okay seriously this shouldn't be allowed. this is cruel. it's sickening to watch how proud he looks when his horse is defenitly not enjoying it . i feel like crying.. I love riding but I would never do that to my horse just to get placed.

  • How sad this looks. It reminds me of the Big Lick inflicted on some TWH for competition. Trying to create the illusion of beauty out of cruelty, the illusion of harmony out of dominance.

  • Warum hat das niemand beendet?

  • disgusting.

  • that is not a love of horses, that is a love of ego

  • @eccentricnags Or a love of winning.

  • @MikuTaiyo very true and very sad for the horse

  • this is absolutely unacceptable..poor horse...and the funny thing is that these people consider themselves "horse lovers"...

  • I don't think that this video is real. IT IS A FAKE!!!

I've met Patrik Kittel and he's very nice. With his horses, too!

  • @Sarahclp93

No offense, but don't be so naive. Probably half of the people you'll ever meet (would) do the most horrible things you couldn't even dream of. At the same time they can be very nice people to talk to. Some of them are just very good actors.

Basically, this guy is no more worse than Anky and many, many more riders who don't give a damn about their horses. This, of course, is accepted by many since "look at how well their horse dances." Entertainment and business are the keywords.

  • "Dressage horses are my passion and define my life. This equation includes:

*Careful and thoughtful training of talented horses for the future"

    - Patrick Kittel

    How ironic...
