  • this game would drive me batshit insane within 10 minutes

  • LOTS OF TINY ROOMS

  • Wow, can't believe I've never heard of this game before. The gameplay looks so immersive, and on top of that, the music is amazing for the time of the NES. Such a large step up from all the other music I've known.

  • this.. is... hypnotic

  • remind me mario rpg

  • Damn. I've never heard nor seen this game before...It looks great! Disappointed that I missed it...The music at 0:01 is awesome

  • Though this game was incredibly hard, it was an epic masterpiece which I will never, ever forget playing. Now this is what you call a true gaming experience...

  • That is some of the most awesome game playing I've ever seen. Simply incredible.

  • Ohhh .. My favorite game from the 90s (-:, NES.

Never made it till the end.

  • 'd hate to meet the guy who platforms like that in real life... impressive stuff.

  • Aww man I remember this game. I never made it anywhere near the end.

  • Awesome music. I could just envision this as the epic theme to a movie version of this game...in a universe where this game would have been adapted to the cinematic screen.

  • Fuck, I can never play this game again now.

  • zero dislikes, keep it up. kudos to the composer

  • holy crap, pwning Solstice :O

  • Is that a person or a computer playing??

  • i used to play this game so much, its is a great game, yett verrry challenging!

  • @retsnips001 Dunno if you searched up "solstice speed run" on here...... But it's not challenging to that guy.

  • hax!

  • I took just once this game from the video game club and played it on my NES (17 years ago). Only few hours. This music haunted me for years . It is so catchy.

  • such an very hard game even with cheats

  • =I(:^O)8 <kewl)

  • I've never heard of the game but damn does it have good music

  • one of the best games i ever played as akid, man the days i spent on that.

  • This game looks very hard

  • Tim Follin is a fucking Prog bro.

  • Les OST de jeu sur NES étaient tous simplement énorme.

  • @vincelinkdu59 just speak English :/

  • damn i miss this game

  • Who else thought of Benzaie @ 0:35?

  • GREAT ! One of the best video game EVER imho ! Beautiful music too ! Never finished :(

  • Never played this one, but as NES music goes, this is great stuff.

  • Did these who made this game, did they do the music for Tom&Jerry on Nes aswell? Sounds a bit like it :P

  • Yep. Both this and Tom & Jerry were done by the Follin brothers.

  • Ooo man I loved this game too.. I cant find it anywhere. I think i was like 7 or 8 solving these puzzles. I thought it was the best game on nintendo !!!!

  • Looks about as fun as getting punched in the mouth.

  • I always got stuck where you left off on your video. Never beat this game.

  • I perfer PAL versions slower music

  • @ookooweb Agreed. i could never work out if, being that the game was designed in the UK, whether the PAL speed is the "right" speed or not. I imagine this isn't likely, but I do find that definitely the title screen music loses something played at this tempo.

  • This was the first game i ever played (besides Mario of course) epic game back then.

  • I feared this game when I was young :(

  • :31 duh nuh nuh nuh nuh...........duh nuh nuh nuh nuh, simple, yet addictive

  • Every map is just 9 squares? Must have required fantastic memory to know where you're heading.

  • OMG!!! I played this game as a kid but I forgot the name and have been looking for it ever since! I loved this shit!

  • Comment removed

  • Many forget that it had a sequel on SNES called Equinox

  • /watch?v=OTtPBxXMcF4

watch this right now. pojo81's amazing cover to the title music

  • Holy crap at 3:49. That is just phenomenal work.

  • I think play footage is from tasvideos, correct? If so you should also give a shout out.

  • Video descriptions are fun.

  • This game reminds me of Head Over Heels, a great isometric game. :)

  • This music is so cheerful and upbeat! XD Whoever's playing this (is that you, Garudoh?) must be the master of Solstice because I remember this game being dementedly hard!

    \8-0

  • So very well made - both Solstice and it's follow-up Equinox. I wonder if production was as enjoyable as what resulted.

  • wow i remember playing this game so long ago. @_@ blast from the past.

  • i remember playing this as a kid. it used to PISS ME OFF!!!!!!

  • This game is the one of best NES games EVER, aslo one of the hardest.

I've only been able to beat it 2 times. one time with cheats *First time* and second time without. I was like "Wow, I really made it. I'm the first one in my family and I'm the youngest"

  • is there a map in this game or do you have to memorize everything?

  • this game looks hard..

  • ¡Buenísima la música e impresionante el tío que juega!

  • Legend!

  • I didn't beat this game until I used a walkthrough. Even then it took me forever. Glad someone remembers it and its awesome music.

  • lol wow never knew this was on the NES, looks fun tho

  • Yes, it was a GREAT game!

  • Never beat this game without the infinite lives cheat, but that title music always sends nostalgic chills up my spine whenever I hear it. The ending music is also quite memorable.

Also, too bad... we almost got to see the entire speedrun. Just a few more rooms!

  • 1:13 -- I have never thought of that!

And I could not agree more with the two comments below me.

This game was one I never beat, but I have fond memories of sitting on the beat up old couch in the living room playing on an ancient television with bunny ears, with that haunting music playing trying to figure out how to get all the pieces of the staff in one game. Wow.

    Thanks for this!

  • The guy playing is a damn wizard too...I've seen almost all those rooms but never in the same play session. That's one game I've never been able to beat.

  • @Aroaraborialis I think it's a tool assisted speed run. They're playing using save features of an emulator :(

  • @Aroaraborialis It's logical you never beat it. I did it following a game guide and it was plain insane, some parts were very difficul (even with emulator savestates, as I played it), so in a plain NES it would be almost impossible o_O Anyway a game with an unique ambientation

  • Solstice had some of the best music ever, especially the music for the title screen.

  • some of the best tunes ever made for the system!

  • Some of the music sounds like Rush wrote it.

  • Thanks for bringing the memories back, Solstice had great music!

  • Does this remind anyone else of Landstalker? or rather the other way around lol^^ I need to play this it looks cool :)

  • Absolutely it does... from the isometric platforming to the way the cave walls are drawn. Makes me wonder who had such a large influence in both games.

  • i'm going to dig this out the loft and play it again. i loved the puzzles, kept me entertained for hours as a kid

  • Damnnnnnn! I haven't seen or heard the music from this game in FOREVER......

  • i believe Equinox for the snes is considered the sequel

  • Damn it reminds me Vagrant Story

  • From 3:41 onwards is incredible. One of the best pieces of music ever written.

  • @bloodflan It sounds like the songs from the band Mago de Oz

  • @bloodflan Agreed! This theme is totally unappreciated.

  • @bloodflan Any idea what the name is?

  • @bloodflan TRIPPPPPY ASSSSS HELLL! AWESOME

  • @bloodflan that sounded like C64 at some points

  • prog-tastic!

  • Those high-pitched beeps are much less annoying than they're in most other games.

  • Ho yes i love this game :D

  • Single best Psuedo 3D game EVER!

  • I was listening to random Final Fantasy 6 music on YT and stumbled across this. It feels like a billion years ago I was playing this game. And the music was really ahead of its time. I miss the days when different concepts could become games.

  • I think there should be a remake, or perhaps a movie. Seriously, I thought up a plot for a movie, and it works. Why this game isn't popular I will never understand. God, this game kicks ass.

  • This is the best NES soundtrack ever.

  • This game made go crazy, sooo damn hard xD

  • Mmkay... This game looks positively absurd to play, but the soundtrack is very, very cool! There needs to be remixes of this.

  • Ok... Forget "very, very cool". This soundtrack is BLOWING MY MIND! I forgot that such things can be done with a NES... WOW.

  • It takes a couple of times to get fully use to the controls. But after a while you'll be cruising. It's one of those games where it looks hard and it will blow your friend's minds if they see you playing it and not die every 5 seconds.

  • Want to go insane? then I suggest you play this game

  • hardest game i've ever played in my life.

  • I really like this one's music, never played it though. It's like some type of norweigan folk pop? It's dope though.

  • Game genie was fantastic. Don't think it's used here though. Music is absolutely quality, not quite as good as Batman on the Commodore 64 but such an addictive tune.

  • Brilliant music. Some of the best ever!

  • Couldn't get into this one at the time, too claustrophobic and unlike mario. I'll get back into it if it still works.

  • i loved this game but never completed it :( might dig it out for another go :)

  • Another I haven't played, but the soundtract it amazing. I definently need to see if anyone's done any remixes of it.

  • This game was insane! omfg.

  • at 50 thouse sounds ar de cooo l

  • heh heh heh... thank YOU game genie.

    ; )

  • Great game. Hard as hell though
