Wow, can't believe I've never heard of this game before. The gameplay looks so immersive, and on top of that, the music is amazing for the time of the NES. Such a large step up from all the other music I've known.
Though this game was incredibly hard, it was an epic masterpiece which I will never, ever forget playing. Now this is what you call a true gaming experience...
Awesome music. I could just envision this as the epic theme to a movie version of this game...in a universe where this game would have been adapted to the cinematic screen.
I took just once this game from the video game club and played it on my NES (17 years ago). Only few hours. This music haunted me for years . It is so catchy.
Ooo man I loved this game too.. I cant find it anywhere. I think i was like 7 or 8 solving these puzzles. I thought it was the best game on nintendo !!!!
@ookooweb Agreed. i could never work out if, being that the game was designed in the UK, whether the PAL speed is the "right" speed or not. I imagine this isn't likely, but I do find that definitely the title screen music loses something played at this tempo.
This music is so cheerful and upbeat! XD Whoever's playing this (is that you, Garudoh?) must be the master of Solstice because I remember this game being dementedly hard!
This game is the one of best NES games EVER, aslo one of the hardest.
I've only been able to beat it 2 times. one time with cheats *First time* and second time without. I was like "Wow, I really made it. I'm the first one in my family and I'm the youngest"
Never beat this game without the infinite lives cheat, but that title music always sends nostalgic chills up my spine whenever I hear it. The ending music is also quite memorable.
Also, too bad... we almost got to see the entire speedrun. Just a few more rooms!
And I could not agree more with the two comments below me.
This game was one I never beat, but I have fond memories of sitting on the beat up old couch in the living room playing on an ancient television with bunny ears, with that haunting music playing trying to figure out how to get all the pieces of the staff in one game. Wow.
The guy playing is a damn wizard too...I've seen almost all those rooms but never in the same play session. That's one game I've never been able to beat.
@Aroaraborialis It's logical you never beat it. I did it following a game guide and it was plain insane, some parts were very difficul (even with emulator savestates, as I played it), so in a plain NES it would be almost impossible o_O Anyway a game with an unique ambientation
Absolutely it does... from the isometric platforming to the way the cave walls are drawn. Makes me wonder who had such a large influence in both games.
I was listening to random Final Fantasy 6 music on YT and stumbled across this. It feels like a billion years ago I was playing this game. And the music was really ahead of its time. I miss the days when different concepts could become games.
I think there should be a remake, or perhaps a movie. Seriously, I thought up a plot for a movie, and it works. Why this game isn't popular I will never understand. God, this game kicks ass.
It takes a couple of times to get fully use to the controls. But after a while you'll be cruising. It's one of those games where it looks hard and it will blow your friend's minds if they see you playing it and not die every 5 seconds.
Game genie was fantastic. Don't think it's used here though. Music is absolutely quality, not quite as good as Batman on the Commodore 64 but such an addictive tune.
this game would drive me batshit insane within 10 minutes
