  • beautiful country but the accent is not so appeling :/

  • no1 in this world is free

  • God.. I wish my country makes TV programs like these... U people are lucky.

  • Scottish accent is soooo sexy.

  • Scotland is just a polite way of saying poor Northern English people.

  • just relate to britich standard

  • you would do a favoure, to reeate to normal seise and do not behave as a bbc star

  • I want Scotland to be Free!

  • @JosephStalin11 you need William Wallace and Robert the Bruce for that to happen

  • @sweetasflip you need people to stop arguing over which fictional religion is right to make that happen.

  • @JosephStalin11 Scotland is free, get your disgusting American beak out of our politics, you yankee bastard. You also know nothing about history, judging from your channel.

  • If it's not Scottish, it's CRAP !

  • "[Hadrian's Wall] drew the line where civilization ended, and barbarism began."

Makes me wonder which side is which, knowing how the Romans had a knack for genocide.

  • Scotland home of the brave land of the free, how I miss it so.

  • There use to be a lot of tall trees in Scotland before the Caledonians first arrival.

  • @pacificrules there used to be tall trees covering almost all of this world's temperate climate zones, and then guess what, we arrived.

  • @TheRainbowGoats maybe because of a lot battles... there STILL many tall trees in most temperate climate zone areas, even when they first arrived in their own areas (lol).

  • @pacificrules touche.

  • @pacificrules

It's true. Although I am a descendent of these people, (my father was born there and is very proud of his heritage) and although I am moved by this history, whenever I hear someone talk about how beautiful Scotland is I can't help thinking of how completely its forests have been destroyed. Barely a single tree in sight. Not to mention the almost total extinction of every species of native animal. This to me does not represent beauty. It only highlights man's impact on the planet.

  • I love Scotish accent!

  • I went to Scotland, it's so beautiful so later I went there again. Scotish people are very nice as well, esp. when they have not got drunk!

  • Open new tab, go to XNXX, search "as amateur as it gets", enjoy, close tab, come back to documentary, and enjoy!! I fuckin LOVE the Scotts!!!!

  • Thank you jamgilp for teaching me about my Scottish ancestors.

I had to chuckle at the first scene with the basalt hills. Reminds me of the Scablands of eastern Washington state where I live on the otherside of the world.

  • Free Scotland. We want independence. Let my people go.

  • @MrTelaviv123 independence for what?Scotland is full of blacks and non-whites,it's heritage is being destroyed with or without the english.

  • @hilletehnoob Independence from the English. The Londoners. We need to control our oil and gas in the North sea.

  • @MrTelaviv123 lol people now a days only care for the economy, economies are temporary, they go up and down from time to time.

  • @hilletehnoob black and non-white ? why what they doing living how they want too ? if any of scotlands heritage is lost its our own fucking fault

  • @evilscotsmin there is no scotland without white people, what is the point of having an independent scotland full of blacks, muslims and non-whites?it's retarded, they are not scotish.

  • @hilletehnoob No wonder the Demoman is so sad. "I'm a black, scottish cyclops."

  • The history of Scotland always brings tears to my eyes. How sad; how very, very sad how brutally and completely freedom was lost to the Scotish people. How galling it must be to be considered part of the English "united kingdom".

  • Nothing like a Scottish accent, just something about them is so alluring. This guy is 20% hotter because it, lol.

  • @Varney86 yeah I came here for that, hahahaha I wanted to hear one talk about whatever, and this seemed the best way to go!

  • I was hoping to bring my Scottish grandfather to his birth place he never seen cause he was too young,,im only hoping i can muster the savings before he leaves us..Beautiful place makes me proud to at least have 1/4 of me have a piece of it..Cheers from Canada...

  • The area of todays Northern England were just as dedicated to fight Roman rule. The Forts and Strongholds of Hadrians always faced south....this showed that Hadrians wall was designed to keep control on both sides of the wall not just to keep out the Caledonians. Rome was already over stretched when it tried to conquer Scotland and the Scots could mount attacks from the highlands terrain.

  • You Talk Like A Dwarf! You are real Scotland Dude ^^

  • this is my heritage im proud.

  • I'm sorry, but Scotland looks like GREAT hang-gliding country. Could you imagine sweeping over the hills and valleys in a hang glider? It'd be awesome.........

  • @Darthbelal *Why should you be "sorry" about saying that?

  • @billy1212ist uhm, mainly because this video is a documentary about Scotland's history and I was seeing the countryside a whole different way.....

  • I wish I met a scottish fellow, like one of those from the highland tales... but shit! I'm so far away in Brazil! damn...

  • Oh right. I wrote that b4 I saw the whole thing (facepalm).

  • Nice speech, but Tacitus put those words in his mouth. They couldn't possibly have known what he was really saying if he did do speeches.

  • I visited Scotland once, I found myself confused in Edinburgh, driving my car in the bus lane and frustrated because I couldn't get back out of it! LOL,lucky me I wasn't ticketed. Maybe I will go back someday.

  • Anyone else love the feeling of a massive turd rubbing against their prostate?

    But I digress....

I'm amazed that there were actually Scottish people who were sober enough to even write down a history.

  • @GnosticHumanist my grandfather fought the japs during ww2

    just saying.

  • @darkglamour666

My grandfather was more badass. Just saying.

  • @darkglamour666 * Do you have ANY IDEA what the war was about? Who caused it to happen? And WHY? And most of all WHO Profited from it? For starters,Google,I.G.Farben,and learn who gave Adolph Hitler, the MONEY to do what he did.Learn how your grandfather was"USED",by Corporate Powers.Learn WHO Profits, and makes war happen, also just saying.

  • proud to be Scottish

  • I could listen to that accent all day :)

  • decided it was time to learn about my peoples past

  • Scotland looks like a nice place

  • Scottish accent = english + scandinavian !! It's a hard combination to talk

  • I can nvr understand the accent of those scots

  • @MrAssholeTan98 The main guy, Sounds nothing like the other scots. just saying

  • I envy Scotland for the environment they have. Had my country had any high hills, we would never have been conquered so easily, or the conquerors would have paid a very high price for every piece of land we have. I wish we had high mountains on our eastern borders. Mountains can also shape a stronger nation's spirit.

  • Why is Calgacus using what looks like a late (Germanic) migration era sword to fight Romans? Isn't this guy an archaeologist?

  • @MrBedlam75 hes only the narrator, i doubt he'd have much say in what was shown in costumes

  • @blackstonewielder19 fair enough, but it looks very out of place.

  • @ 8:06 isn't that part of the scenery from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner? Where the guards chase the boy in the tree and Robin fights them? If not, it sure looks a lot like it.

  • fuckin prodestent bastards. every time i go ther i get called fenian bastard go home. hope it gets nuked.lol

  • Calgacus looks like one mean dude.

  • Do these videos really have to be in ten minute segments? It's annoying. Why not just put the whole History of Scotland in one video?

  • @1101millie97 Ah bonnie lass, it's because the Scots are a bit tight when it comes to give'in thing up.

    Mc ha ha.

  • @1101millie97 why not just go and buy the DVD? there are 10 hours of these episodes, you can't put them into one video.

  • loved this

  • I always find that the Scottish and the Hungarian people have many things common in history. Maybe that's partly why I felt so good in Scotland.

  • @zeldaofarel Hmm although the Hungarians were invaders into Hungary, allot of Scottish take pride in being original inhabitants.

  • @221Dw 1200 years ago.

  • @zeldaofarel Pretty recent id say.

  • Gave up after 3.26 minutes.

Scotland deserves more than BritNat crap like this.

The word Britain appears as much as Scotland.

The background music is also really offputting as is the script "Agricola had an agenda".

Scotland forever. BBC - get lost!

  • I watched the first 5 episodes on youtube. It was fascinating info, but it was also rather disgusting how the desire for power and wealth controls the poor peasants and innocents. I think most wars are not caused from religion. They are caused by powermongers and covetous and greedy maniacs. A king or queen might be a good idea if they had integrity and cared about their country more than themselves, and had protection. Democracy has it's corruptions too. There probably is no perfect system.

  • Vote 4 this comment if you are not scottish and you like Scotland and its history.

  • @masterblaster848 I watch this documentary with intense interest even though I'm pretty sure I don't have any ancestors who lived in Scotland, but because Scotland shares a similar history with Switzerland of where I know I have some ancestry: they're both mountain folk who led peasant revolts around the 1300's and kicked ass.

  • @spiralcosmosart Serbs are also mountainus and proud, they had uprisings against Byzantine Empire and creation of independent state, wars against powerful Bulgarian empire peasent revolts against Ottoman empire 16-19th centuries, 1st breached Salonica front destroying Austria-Hungary, defeting Bulgarians, surviving march of death through albania. The greates guerrila resistence in occupied Europe in ww2 against Nazis

    Pirates, outlaws,krajinas, revolutions, mercenaries. . .

  • @masterblaster848 That all sounds fascinating. I wish they'd make higher budget films for these other documentaries of resistance. Switzerland, a very wealthy country that won independence large counrites surrounding them, should have made something like this, with footage of the landscape like Neil Oliver does, a long time ago.

  • @masterblaster848 Your a total douche dude......

  • @CrazyManChild667 I dont know whats your fucking problem and I dont give damn. Maybe U should visit a doctor, ok? If there is medecine 4 you brain illness.

  • Independence for scotland and wales is a must!!!!!

  • If Scotland is independent you can forget fiscal aid for England which your area greatly depends on. The economic union won't bring you independence but another less understanding master mainly the Germans who are really the masters of the new system in europe. So start learning german and even french post haste.

  • @SCHRUBBE1966 You can believe me when I tell you that even we Germans are not so excited about this. Most of us can tell how things are slowly turning into a police state, and we don't like it. the reasons why we may be the "masters" of the UN is probably because we are paying out of out noses to finance it. That means the average guy does the paying. Don't expect us to see any real benefits from it.

  • @SCHRUBBE1966

The Germans cant do much worse of a job than the English tories right now or the last time that loathesome party got in power.

  • @cannonski

The only good thing about Tories is they're not Labor.

  • This is fantastic. A mate of mine from Scotland put me onto it. Thanks for the history lesson!

  • The picts were launching cross border raids into Roman territory, there was no tyranny. The Romans didn't want to go any further north they were just defending themselves. They saw nothing of value in Scotland.

  • @Graham6762 9th legion of rome march into the uncounquered territory in northern britain and 9th legion of rome got massacared. They did try something offensive.

  • 1:35 - "Des frst apisoode is abaut d barf of Scotland." LMAO

  • 07:51-08:01 "Liberty with poverty, or a gilded cage." Right on!

  • This is totally awesome. Thanks so much for uploading it. You're a hero.

  • sadly islam is colonizing all over europe. Scottland will just be another conquest for them,

  • All argument aside, this series is not just the best history of Scotland ever made but arguably the best history documentary series ever. I think it is telling that, having watched the whole series twice I still can't tell what Neil Oliver's views on independence - or the Union for that matter - are, such is his even-handedness on all matters relating to the topic. He is similarly disinterested in his treatment of all contentious issues (and there are many) in Scottish history. Admirable.

  • @Taiginator I'll be in favour of independence for Strathclyde when the English are in favour independence for the previously independent kingdoms of Northumbria or Wessex. Let's not try to score silly points here, eh? (Besides, the Scots' debating skills will nearly always defeat all comers: we leave our mothers' wombs ready to argue.) The principle here is that no nation - or people who consider themselves a nation - should have to remain subordinate to any other. Equality or independence!

  • @Taiginator Ireland was never two countries grafted together: quite the reverse. It was one nation later divided by a foreign power. Scotland, however, was an independent nation for centuries before its king took over the English throne, leading a century later to the Union, and please mark that, *union*, of the Scottish and English parliaments. Since then its supposedly equal English partner has dominated & marginalised Scotland. That's why so many Scots now want *full* independence back.

  • @Sleepyscribbler actually Ireland was many small kingdoms up to the 11th century there was no one nation even then when the Anglo-normans invaded the island came under the control of the Lordship of Ireland and in 1541 the Kingdom of Ireland was established by the House of Tudor.

  • @Taiginator "I have a better idea, we stick with the union, leave the EU and establish trade routes with the commonwealth, pre EU style."

What is this we ? You live in the United States and I am assuming you are not even Scottish, I am assuming you are an American, so what does Scottish politics have to do with you ?

  • the most magical, sacred and heavenly place on earth.

  • @Tatacchan "the most magical, sacred and heavenly place on earth" Scotland is not a 'pretty' country. It tends to the extremes of tough urban townscapes and soaring rural magnificence. Maybe that's why Scots arenthe most argumentative people on earth. :-) We do love a good fight! A fierce independence of mind - and, in many of us, of politics - is bred in us by the sheer power of what we see around us. Scoltand is "the little white rose ... That smells sharp and sweet—and breaks the heart"

  • gods country <3

  • @Taiginator I am quite aware of the geography of my neighbouring countries. I believe one day in the future Northern Ireland will vote to join the Republic of Ireland and there will be a United Ireland. Protestants and Catholics United! This will have more of a chance of happening if Scotland becomes independent. Then Wales would follow and England would then be last. So Scotland would be living alongside it's great neighbours once again - ENGLAND, WALES AND IRELAND !

  • One should beware of speaking ill about Roman rule, even as a Scot, since it will tempt a lot of people to recite the famous “What have the Romans ever done for us?” scene from Monty Python’s “Life of Brian” which will show how foolish it is to speak ill about the Romans (which is by the way mocking the anti-colonial leftwing moron of the modern world as well, who were predominant during the time of the Pythons):

  • LORETTA: And it's safe to walk in the streets at night now, Reg.

FRANCIS: Yeah, they certainly know how to keep order. Let's face it. They're the only ones who could in a place like this.

COMMANDOS: Hehh, heh. Heh heh heh heh heh heh heh.

REG: All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?

    XERXES: Brought peace.

    REG: Oh. Peace? Shut up!

  • REG: Well, yeah. Obviously the roads. I mean, the roads go without saying, don't they? But apart from the sanitation, the aqueduct, and the roads-- COMMANDO: Irrigation. XERXES: Medicine. COMMANDOS: Huh? Heh? Huh... COMMANDO 2: Education. COMMANDOS: Ohh... REG: Yeah, yeah. All right. Fair enough. COMMANDO 1: And the wine. COMMANDOS: Oh, yes. Yeah... FRANCIS: Yeah. Yeah, that's something we'd really miss, Reg, if the Romans left. Huh. COMMANDO: Public baths.
  • REG: Yeah. All right, Stan. Don't labour the point. And what have they ever given us in return?

    XERXES: The aqueduct?

    REG: What?

    XERXES: The aqueduct.

REG: Oh. Yeah, yeah. They did give us that. Uh, that's true. Yeah.

    COMMANDO 3: And the sanitation.

LORETTA: Oh, yeah, the sanitation, Reg. Remember what the city used to be like?

REG: Yeah. All right. I'll grant you the aqueduct and the sanitation are two things that the Romans have done.

    MATTHIAS: And the roads.

  • Scotland rather than Ireland! Awesome documentary! I especially love ancient history(Greece first and foremost, but also others).

  • I have been pissed off with the endless whingeing of the Scots for decades. But I found out the other day that my unusual surname (shan't tell you what it is, just take my word for it) is exclusively traced to Middle Ages Edinburgh and nowhere else.

So it seems I'm Scottish after all. Right then, I can do wode-smeared, ginger 'Scotsman' with a huge sword as well as the smelliest of them: bugger the English, we must have our FREEDOM!

    Er, I'll get my kilt.

  • The first minute I saw this I thought, oh hell, an entire documentary long Scottish accent ^^

  • Hey, I checked my surname (Gill) out on Hall of Names website they say it was Norman Viking, we invaded Scotland from a launch pad in the northern Islands and we had the honour of having our name embroidered in plaid which was a great honour, and it is one of the first Scottish names mentioned. We were given lands in Yorkshire England for fighting in the battle of Hastings then argued over the amount of land & must have lost that scrap with the King. No wonder I liked working in Scotland.

  • Proud to be scottish, :D.

  • fuckin love scotland...grew up on ewan mcgregor

  • Born in Scotland, still living here. I have an almost American accent. Strange.

  • @Biohazard931 Fuck American, I hate Yankee accents, I'm sure yours isn't as annoying though :)

  • Scottish Independence NOW !

Vote SNP and let's be a country again...

Scotland WILL be an Independent "ancient and magical" country again living alongside it's great neighbours - ENGLAND, WALES AND IRELAND !

Let us be individual and united at the same time....

  • @dontbothertoreadthis id much prefer if the scots could make our own decisions rather than have them controlled by westminster, think thats the point he was making

  • @dontbothertoreadthis - no, it's not as we are now !! ...we have a limited government with limited powers, we are not equal in the union. Independence means getting the autonomy of government that our people deserve and - an end to the plundering of our resources by the English.

  • @dontbothertoreadthis When i said let us be individual and united at the same time i ment let Scotland be an independent country with England, Wales and Ireland as allies and close neighbours. I will never accept that Scots are "allowed" to govern over some things but not all things affecting them. And as for the European Union, i am all FOR it. Most Scots are pro European unlike in England. I want Scotland to be a state in the European Union rather than a region of the UK in Europe.

  • @glasgow1234 wrote: "I want Scotland to be a state in the European Union rather than a region of the UK in Europe." Then you automatically condemn Scotland to the same fate as every EU country: They are NOT allowed to govern themselves because of the big banks. Also massive immigration from third world countries (because of EU policy) will change your precious Scotland forever. Look into the backgrounds of EU leaders Van Rompuy and Barroso: they were both hardened communists.

  • @TheWNMan If i had to choose between Scotland being a region of the UK being governed from London with no international recognition at all or Scotland being an independent country in the EU being governed from Edinburgh and Brussels with seats at the EU, UN and other international organisations then i think you know what i and many Scots would choose. In Scotland we are PRO European. I know that is something you find hard to understand but it's something you just need to accept !

  • @TheWNMan * Democracy, and Communism both work great on paper.BUT when you add Man and his greed, and lust for power,BOTH FAIL.The background of Rothschild, would help you to better understand."London City",(1sq.mi. in London) is NOT part of England. Is a Country onto itself, houses the worlds Gold, with The Vatican. And is the Financial Capital of the World.Vatican, not part of Italy,as is The District of Columbia,in Washington, not part of the USA.The 3 form"The Crown"run by the wealthiest men on earth

  • @billy1212ist wrote: "Democracy, and Communism both work great on paper.BUT when you add Man and his greed, and lust for power,BOTH FAIL"

Nice try, but I already know this fact. More accurately, it can be stated as follows: Capitalism and Communism are the same. Further, that in every Western country, it matters very little who you vote for, they ALL support the same ridiculous policies. So today we have political parties that are mimicking each other.

  • @TheWNMan Well said my friend, you are one of the very few people who share this belief and it is so true.

  • @dontbothertoreadthis I totally agree with this, I would just like to add that Brussels doesn't care much about continental European nations either.

  • @glasgow1234 in 4 years time, Scotland will be free forever

  • @glasgow1234 Beware the EU.

  • @glasgow1234 Scotland is a country... Even her own currency.

  • @rivlukcoltd Scotland is not an INDEPENDENT country. We are NOT a sovereign state like the hundreds of countries in the world who are. We want to be recognized by all countries in the world as an equal partner and to be a full member of the United Nations to promote peace. At the moment we are just another "region" of the United Kingdom with no recognition or voice of our own.

  • @glasgow1234 Where will you get the money for all your heroine and shortbread without England there to give it to you?

  • @NoahTheZoophile heroine? female heroes??? It would seem you need to learn to spell your OWN language ;) and we don't buy shortbread, we SELL it :) It brings billions of pounds to the Scottish Economy every year...... Any other Xenophobic remarks ??? maybe you need a dictionary for that big word eh?

  • @glasgow1234 You didn't answer the question. All you did is point that i don't practice speaking English enough. But i'm sure you are a multilingual master.

If Scotland where to become an independent country it's economy would collapse within a week. That's not racism that's just life.

Yeah Scotlands main exports are shortbread closely followed by misery.

  • @NoahTheZoophile No it wouldn't, the simple fact is Scotland gives more into London than it gives back, in 2010 Scotland produced 194 billion worth of exports, 100% of it went to London, in return Scotland got 139 billion back, as well as a 3.5 billion extra spending budget, recently the conservative government halved the spending budget, what a bunch of cunts. Scotland's main exports are #1 export in UK (Whisky), oil, gas, renewable energy, 30% of Europe's computers, food, drink, timber.YouFail

  • @truefalse All i can do is ROFL. You don't really believe that do you?

Obviously the exporting misery was a joke. The rest is highly implausible.

  • @NoahTheZoophile ??? This is true economic facts, Scotland also has 8% of the UK population yet pays 9.4% of the overall tax. Scotland is being robbed being part of the union subsidizing Birmingham, London, Manchester, Wales & N.Ireland.

  • @truefalse You must be on horse.

  • @glasgow1234

You realize being independent would just relegate Scotland to a third rate and utterly insignificant nation right? If you want to kill scotland in a day, leave the Union. Any scot with two pence to rub together would head south, your foreign investment would dry up, companies would leave, college graduates would head straight for england.

Anyone who calls for Scottish independence is either incredibly naive or simply hates Scotland.

  • Watch Doomsday, that pretty much sums up how Scotland would look without Britain LOL Though being a nationalistic nitwit, I'm sure to you that vision seemed like paradise.

  • @madhammudeux Well, as the comments of a YouTube video, with their word count limits aren't a particularly appropriate medium for in-depth discussions, I'll avoid challenging your opinions. However, I am rather interested in what would prompt a foreigner to even bother commenting on the imagined plight of an independent Scotland, would you kindly care to enlighten me?

  • Comment removed

  • if its not Scottish...... its crap!!!!!

  • Scotland should be its own nation away from England

  • The land of the free.

  • proud to be scottish

  • Scotland - pretty much a non-country, right? ^_^

  • @youlemur scotland is a country learn your history mate it may be apart of great britain but it's still scotland O_O

  • @youlemur And how is that? Please tell me!

  • Isn't 8:05 the place they film a piece of Robin Hood. The one with Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman in it...?

  • part of the 10 tribes of Israel

  • @gaiuskaiser

That is the biggest load of crap I have ever heard.

  • @krissyeh do some homework on Western European Israelism.Do some research on the Stone of Scone.Do some research on The Queen Royal Standard. Most people don't know who the hell they are

  • @gaiuskaiser

You are just one of those nutters that believe everything in the bible. There were heaps of Nations well before one your tribes of Israel even came about, Ancient Egypt being one them. You remind me of those deluded Black Hebrew Israelites.

I have done heaps of research for my heritage is Scottish and Irish, so stuff your ten tribes where the sun don't shine.

  • Vote SNP! :)

  • @Scealic93 LOLFINLAND.

  • @millard27 but half irish :P

  • @Scealic93 Ouch im sorry.

  • 'Egfrith, King of Northumbria, rashly led an army to ravage the province of the Scottish Picts. The Scottish Picts enemy pretended to retreat, and lured the king into narrow mountain passes, where he was killed with the greater part of his forces...Many of the English at this time were killed, or forced to flee from Scottish Pictish territory.'Bede, AD 731.

  • A great series of video, the history and pictures.

  • the production values of this documentary are knocking me on my ass!

  • can someone tell me the pronunciation of Kilgakas? I didnt various searches on google to get more information on him but it always turns up blank.

  • I'm so happy I've found this series! It's incredibly interesting, and beautifully filmed.

  • I've lived in Scotland my whole life and have been lucky enough to see some of the beautiful landscapes in this series. My mothers family, McNicol, come from the isle of skye, they're tall, strong built people, so I assume my blood line goes back to the vikings. Scottish history should be taught at school, it's inspiring.

  • @JoeMacpherson1 sure, a proud line of whores. As I recall it, we discussed whores often as younge lads in school. Plenty of proud scottish history there.

  • What we need is our clan to reform and fight off the english. Im 3/4 scottish, direct desendent from the Armstrong clan. I love our history, it makes me proud carrying the last name. "Vi et armis Invictus maneo", By force and arms I remain unconquered!

  • @canadian7233

    LOL! Romantic celtic twaddle!
