Fuel injection and electronic engine control can't produce results like cubic inches and a camshaft among other things. Nothin' like a 396. First engine I ever built and it'd hang the ass end out at 55 mph with a downshift from 4th to 2nd.

Boys.. that's a stock trim 396 coupled to a TH400. I had one in gold until a drunk driver totaled me in '72. Nothing.. anywhere...ever did, or ever will sound like these 1960's BBC chevys when the Rodchester Qjet opened up. The torque rush will give a dean-man Wood. At 4300 to 4800 lbs these were lead-sleds for sure, but if we didn't beat you off the light, we usually ran you down. I friggin love that sound. Makes me feel like a kid again. Beautiful ride.. Thanks for the momory.

I LOVE muscle cars and own a 67 GTO but im sorry to inform you that this is not a stock 396. even though the factory under rated the power from these engines at 375 when in reality they made 400-410 on an engine dyno. they were and still are respectable cars and i love my GM A-body to death but mine doesnt weight so much, 3590 with me in it. albeit no power steering or brakes or and other options besides a 4 speed. so nice Chevelle for sure but definitely not stock.

ZZ 502; The only update is heavier valve springs to deal with the NOS. This thing runs crisp and clean! God bless Chevy for selling a motor this good out of the box.
