I saw James Cotton Blues Band in Atlanta several times back around 1969-70. At the time, many of the best white bands were blues-based (Led Zepplin, Stones, Canned Heat, Paul Butterfield, Allman Bros. Band, Johnny Winter, Cream, and on and on).
