I actually think it's a wonderfully pure use of the SID chip - I love the tune especially around the 1:20 and at 2:40 mark. That's some of the coolest tuneage I've heard on the C64 for a while. And while it's a single effect demo (as 3yE points out) it is done very smoothly and the visual sync is impressivly timed.
Well first it's as newschool as C64 demos go, not really oldschool at all. And second, i somehow fail to see what's supposed to be impressive on it. A few frames of converted animation saved as chardata, that seems fairly trivial, and very little in terms of effects or progression to spice it up.

As a fan of the C64 this is not one of the best uses of the SID chip
