Thank you Netflix for "recommending" this for me.....Pushed play thinking i would give this a few minutes of my time because I wasn't quite in the mood for what seemed to me, a slow-brewing, turned up nose drama but i found myself drawn into the characters and before I knew it I watched every episode! What casting! i was totally whisked away to another time, another place, another world..

A friend sent me the DVDs with the 7 episodes of series one.

I have always been in awe of Maggie Smith but, frankly, she's outdone herself this time. Bravo, Dame Maggie (from an admirer in Brazil - and yes, we are ungallant enough to die in houses that are not ours from time to time).

The people of an era... Edwardian or post-Edwardian. More than once the dress of the women, mostly when out-of-doors and esp. their hats, reminded me of a Seurat painting... which I guess was close to the same time period.
