This is a tune called Sourwood Mountain but is from an album called "Instrumental Music of the Southern Appalachians". This is not Doug Dillard playing - the player is really a man named Mr. Boone Reid.

@mark30120 this clawhammer banjo player is actually Mr Boone Reid (not Darling). The album is "Music of the Southern Appalachians". :-) I have this album.
@mark30120 That's a great picture of the Dillards on their album cover. That sort of "punk" look with the guys standing around in odd poses is 30 years ahead of its time. By the way - I love the Dillards!
Yeah, doesn't sound like the Dillards, but this album cover is from one of the ones post Doug any way. Doug left the Dillards and they started doing 60's early 70's sounding rock stuff. That being said, I don't have this album (because I'm a big Douglas fan, and didn't bother picking this one up) so I don't know if this song was on there or not, but I highly doubt it.
This ain't The Dillards!!! Clawhammer banjo style not played by Doug Dillard or any other banjo pickers who played with the Dillards! Enjoyed it though but confused!
This recording is the version of "Sourwood Mountain" from the album "Instrumental Music of the Southern Appalachians." The album also featured guitar work by Etta Baker.
How very extraordinary! The doodle banjo western style made it over the big pond, too but unfortunatley not the legendary Andy Griffith show. However you definitely made me nosy. I´m a big Green Acres fan also and gonna look it up on amazon maybe they got something from Andy Griffith for region 2 as well.
Thanks for sharing this rarity group "The Darlings" - cheers!

I'm fifteen, I love this. But I also love rock, metal, blues, classical, old school rap, and medieval stuff with strange instruments. I love music :)

This is actually by Erik Darling who was not associated with the Dillards, AKA the Darlins (no "g" on the end).
