Oh, how I love this movie. One of my favorites growing up, and it still gets my newly 28 year old self every time- especially the ending. It has to be a law of nature or something that you must cry at least once (preferably more) between the train that nearly missed Sassy's tail and Chance's immortal "TURKEY!" ^_^ I'd still love to know how they got out of that hole, though. Railway workers, probably...
@ukulelekidd94 Oh, cute. You do realize that MJF was only in the early stages of Parkinson's back when this was made, almost two decades ago now, yeah? The word you're looking for, by the way, is "stuttering." He has a medical condition, whereas you, barring some learning disability or another unbeknownst to me, can bloody well bother to spell properly, even when being fairly thoughtless. Honestly... *sighs*
''He will be yours, faithful and true until the last beat of his heart, you owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. Dogs are better than people.'' FACT
On saturday my border collie went missing, frantically searching for him for three days i had exhausted all avenues. Then there was a sighting of him this morning running in to a near by wood. I waited there for 11 hours and then all of a sudden in true homeward style I heard a howl...I called nikki loads of times and gave up...then all of a sudden out of the woods he came running towards me! Like chance! :-)
I'm 18. I've loved this movie since i first saw it when i was 3.
It doesnt matter, how old i get, even when im an old man, in his 80's, this scene will always make me cry. It's one of the most beautiful scene's in movie history
the combonation with the music and the home coming just made me cry like a little girl lol.... remember watching this film when I was like 3 years old and suddenly I recalled this movie today... this is certainly one of the best memories from my childhood... what happend to the movies today... only god knows
Just to hear Shadow say he worried about Peter is so sweet. The love a dog and a human have is so strong. I just love it here and when he's limping up the hill. ;^; the tears and the music.
im so frustrated. i saw a movie like this when i was younger, but the animals did not talk at all. if anybody knows the movie, plz tell me. i know its not homeward bound so plz stop telling me lol
@Amandork456 there's another version of this movie called 'the incredible journey', i think? same plot, different dogs, and i don't think the animals talk in it. homeward bound is the remake of this movie which was adapted from a book
my friends say I'm broken because still to this day this movie and the second one to this and others like Balto make me cry every time, yet my sisters keeper didn't make me cry.
Shit man, I'm a 25 year old soldier stationed in Germany, and I still, STILL, STIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL bust out in tears with this ending. How can you not?!!
there beter then any human actor/actress! i mean that! shadow, chance and sassy are the GREATEST actors and actress EVER!! they do everything just right! this is the best movie ever...well this and homeward bound 2! =)
one of my most vivid memories is bursting out sobbing when I was about eight years old and saw this for the first time, watching shadow come up the hill after convincing myself that he hadn't made it. still gets me!
i cry every damn time i watch this movie. every time shadow walks over the hill and the music starts playing, i start sobbing. i love this movie, and the ending is so touching.
Im 26 years old and this movie was a staple growing up. Everytime I see Shadow limp up the hill into camera veiw is when the tears stream down my face. This was such a good movie and you can't recapture memories like this in other movies now if you tried.
@MrWickNasty I agree completely. 21, and I cannot make it past Shadow comming over that hill without breaking out in tears. I don't know what it is about it. I can barely remember any of the rest of the movie, but just this one scene somehow does me in.
I love this movie, and it's one of the only movies in which the animals DONT die in order to get you bawling! nowadays, they always kill the dog in the movie... damn hollywood.
26 years old and still crying like it's my first time seeing it as a child. My first cat was Sassy of course, after the movie. I intend on owning an American Bulldog and Golden before I die! lol
@EternalRainfall We all know that the dogs were the stars of the movie. It was Michael J. Fox and his "mentor" or father-figure, and then there was the cat. I just related most to Shadow because I have a golden retriever mix and it's been my dream to have a dog like him and name him Shadow. Because, you know, that's really really cool.
My Golden Retriever ran away once and was gone for a few days. I thought of this part when she came home. I cried out of joy when we were having a happy reunion.
I feel joy when Chance comes running up, I laugh when Sassy is being held, but when Shadow appears at the last second, I freaking lose it every single time.
The other day I was channel surfing and found out that this movie was a remake from a movie in the 60's, I do prefer this one but that could just be because it reminds me of my childhood but the original one was pretty good and just as cute and heartwarming as well and if any of you get the chance I would say watch it especially if your really into OLD old disney classic films
Omg the ending always tears me up no matter how damn times I watch this emotional movie! And I always cry when Sassy almost dies getting sucked up in that waterfall. Hope looks so young to me 'cause I've been watching the second Homewardbound so much. The first movies are always the best. Gotta love the classics (:. I just love how this family loves their pets and how these pets go to such heights just to be with them
watched this film with my bf ( and yes i blubbed like a baby the entire time) ... later on in the same day HE suggested it was so good that we should watch it again................. this man is perfect :)
My brother loved this movie so much that he actually bought a Golden Retriever and named him Shadow. After 13 years, Shadow passed away in early 2007. Every time I watch this ending, when Peter thinks his beloved Shadow is dead, I bawl my eyes out.
I have never cried at the end of a movie but I came very close to at the end of this film. I remember when I was a kid my mum cried at this and I was too young to understand why now I know why.
My roommate has never heard of this movie before and I was just telling her about it. She said "Oh, it sounds like Bolt!" No honey. No, it is nothing like Bolt. So I showed her the ending without the rest of the movie. That's all it took to get both her and I to tear up.
ive watched this movie since I was about 4 I am 18 turning 19, and to this day it still makes me cry everytime no matter what. Just the meaning of it is so amazing. Wish they still made movies like this today.
Im a 20 year old man and this ending still gets me every stinkin time lol I love the background music that builds the moment, its such and awesome ending. :)
I was in 4th grade when this movie came out and I absolutely loved it and watched it all the time :) I cried every time at this scene and at 26 years, I still do!! They don't make them like this anymore...
7:50..........there hasn't been a movie since this that has made me cry this much.
And whenever someone and I watch a movie that is sad, they normally say "Man that was so sad, what did you think of it?" I say "Well....it wasn't 'Shadow's Return' but it was okay"
I'm not a fan of golden retrievers, but shadow is my favorite

I've never thought about it before, but the title Homeward Bound could mean two things in this movie.
One: The pets traveling home due to Shadows concerns and misunderstanding.
Or
Two: Chance's search to find out weather he truly has a home.
