  • I'm not a fan of golden retrievers, but shadow is my favorite

  • No joke, I'm named Shadow. Watching this scene after so many years is nuts.

  • The video hasnt even started yet and I'm tearing up!!

  • as I'm sure so many other people said, you have to be some kind of soulless person not to cry at this.

  • omg....why the hell did i look this up?! THEY HADN'T EVEN CROSSED THE RAILROADS AND I WAS ALREADY BAWLING.

  • how do dogs DO that?

  • so glad we found the missing shadow.

  • Oh, how I love this movie. One of my favorites growing up, and it still gets my newly 28 year old self every time- especially the ending. It has to be a law of nature or something that you must cry at least once (preferably more) between the train that nearly missed Sassy's tail and Chance's immortal "TURKEY!" ^_^ I'd still love to know how they got out of that hole, though. Railway workers, probably...

  • I'm surprised Chance wasn't convulsing and studdering his words....

  • @ukulelekidd94 Oh, cute. You do realize that MJF was only in the early stages of Parkinson's back when this was made, almost two decades ago now, yeah? The word you're looking for, by the way, is "stuttering." He has a medical condition, whereas you, barring some learning disability or another unbeknownst to me, can bloody well bother to spell properly, even when being fairly thoughtless. Honestly... *sighs*

  • ''He will be yours, faithful and true until the last beat of his heart, you owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. Dogs are better than people.'' FACT

  • watching this....knowing what was going to happen.....Chance ran up that hill........oh gawd T__T

  • Michael j fox is Chance's voice.

  • On saturday my border collie went missing, frantically searching for him for three days i had exhausted all avenues. Then there was a sighting of him this morning running in to a near by wood. I waited there for 11 hours and then all of a sudden in true homeward style I heard a howl...I called nikki loads of times and gave up...then all of a sudden out of the woods he came running towards me! Like chance! :-)

  • @rebekahrichards You called a male dog nikki? No wonder he left.

  • I haven't seen this movie since I was 7........omg!! I could feel my eyes watering up!!! The best. Ahhh childhood.

  • i will not cry... i will not cry... i will not cry

  • We could supply the world with water for years if we used all the tears that have been over this ending.

  • These animals are better actors than most movie stars.

  • Too much emotion ; _ ;

  • As soon as Chance runs up the hill I lose it... many manly tears shed

  • Bawling.

  • Turkey! Turkey turkey turkey turkey turkey!

  • So many tears! :'-)

  • I remember seeing the original on film projector in the mid 1980s/80s. I don't remember any crying moments. Maybe they're in the newer version?

  • LIK DIS IF U CREY EVRY TIEM crey

  • Oh Shadow :`(

  • This ending has made me cry ever since I was 4 years old. many years later, I still tear up when shadow appears.

  • im an 18 year old guy and im so high right now and this made me cry for ages ahaha

  • Comment removed

  • everytime everytime dammit these tears just won't let up

  • I'm 18. I've loved this movie since i first saw it when i was 3.

It doesnt matter, how old i get, even when im an old man, in his 80's, this scene will always make me cry. It's one of the most beautiful scene's in movie history

  • Everytime I see the very end when Peter and shadow are reunited I cry everytime:)

  • the combonation with the music and the home coming just made me cry like a little girl lol.... remember watching this film when I was like 3 years old and suddenly I recalled this movie today... this is certainly one of the best memories from my childhood... what happend to the movies today... only god knows

  • Just realized that one of the dog is the voice of Fry from Futurama.

  • @DataEAstJ It's not Fry. It's Michael J. Fox's voice. They do sound alike though.

  • Just to hear Shadow say he worried about Peter is so sweet. The love a dog and a human have is so strong. I just love it here and when he's limping up the hill. ;^; the tears and the music.

  • that damn music as he walks up the hill :P tear factory right here xD

  • Comment removed

  • how many times have i seen this? a million?

but every time Shadow shows up over that hill.... goosebumps. all over.

  • i dont cry at titanic but i'll cry at this....o i c.

  • I watched this film yesterday, the ending brought tears to my eyes

  • BEST ENDING EVER IN HISTORY. no other movie could beat it

  • sob no matter what, but at 5:53 the parents are like w...tf......

  • just LOST it!!!! movie is amazing! ever since i was a kid i have cried every time.... this movie means so much to me.

  • im so frustrated. i saw a movie like this when i was younger, but the animals did not talk at all. if anybody knows the movie, plz tell me. i know its not homeward bound so plz stop telling me lol

  • @Amandork456 I'm probably wrong, but could you be talking about Milo and Otis? - i think they talk though :/

I know how frustrating it is when something like this happens!! lol

  • @Amandork456

    Or maybe it was Benji?

  • @Amandork456 yes yes it is!!! i watched this movie soo many times!!

  • @Amandork456 there's another version of this movie called 'the incredible journey', i think? same plot, different dogs, and i don't think the animals talk in it. homeward bound is the remake of this movie which was adapted from a book

  • @staticprevails13 yeh thanks it is homeward bound. i like the original one.

  • my friends say I'm broken because still to this day this movie and the second one to this and others like Balto make me cry every time, yet my sisters keeper didn't make me cry.

  • Shit man, I'm a 25 year old soldier stationed in Germany, and I still, STILL, STIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL bust out in tears with this ending. How can you not?!!

  • there beter then any human actor/actress! i mean that! shadow, chance and sassy are the GREATEST actors and actress EVER!! they do everything just right! this is the best movie ever...well this and homeward bound 2! =)

  • FUCK THIS MOVIE IM 18 AND STILL SOB

  • one of my most vivid memories is bursting out sobbing when I was about eight years old and saw this for the first time, watching shadow come up the hill after convincing myself that he hadn't made it. still gets me!

  • Manly tears were shed in the watching of this movie.

  • 7:40 has always been one of the saddest moments of my childhood. and I just love watching it over and over lol

  • @BuffysBiggestFan totally agreed<3

  • everytime Peter and Shadow see eachother...i cry :"(

  • hate the sound shadow makes when he falls..gets me everytime a dog makes that noise...

  • i cry every damn time i watch this movie. every time shadow walks over the hill and the music starts playing, i start sobbing. i love this movie, and the ending is so touching.

  • Everytime I see this I start to cry at the part where Peter says "he was just too old" it breaks my heart even though I know Shadow comes back.

  • 21 here. I remember naming my first lab after shadow. He was like my hero when I was a little kid lol. What an adventure this movie was!

  • i've seen this movie over 100 times and it never fails to make me bawl like a baby! I'm 19 and loved it when I was a kid.

  • I'm 22 now and this still gets me. Been watching this movie since I was 5 and I still get goosebumps

  • Im 26 years old and this movie was a staple growing up. Everytime I see Shadow limp up the hill into camera veiw is when the tears stream down my face. This was such a good movie and you can't recapture memories like this in other movies now if you tried.

  • @MrWickNasty I agree completely. 21, and I cannot make it past Shadow comming over that hill without breaking out in tears. I don't know what it is about it. I can barely remember any of the rest of the movie, but just this one scene somehow does me in.

  • @MrWickNasty I'm 22 years old and everytime I see that same scene the tears always come! I Love This True Classic!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrWickNasty i could write this EXACT comment!!!!! its one of my favorite movies of ALL TIME, and i still cry, im crying right now!!!

  • I've never thought about it before, but the title Homeward Bound could mean two things in this movie.

One: The pets traveling home due to Shadows concerns and misunderstanding.

    Or

Two: Chance's search to find out weather he truly has a home.

  • I'm Crying my heart out and i'm 13

  • I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 2 today. I didn't shed a tear as my childhood pretty much ended.

I just broke down sobbing watching this.

  • peeee ter

  • oh.....i always cry over this haha

  • I love this movie, and it's one of the only movies in which the animals DONT die in order to get you bawling! nowadays, they always kill the dog in the movie... damn hollywood.

  • Major heart ache when Shadow is stuck in the hole and says to Chance "Now you have to learn to say good-bye."

  • they cleaned up well after falling down in the mud!

  • what's just as sad is that the actor who played shadow died right after making this movie

  • Its so beautiful :)

  • Im not trying to be funny or make a joke but how does Shadow get out of ther hole?? Is it ever explained or does anybody know?

  • Titanic doesn't make me cry.

    Homeward Bound does. ♥

  • I can watch this a million times and I'll still cry! I love this movie so much!!!

  • Oh my fucking god, how did this make me cry?

  • 26 years old and still crying like it's my first time seeing it as a child. My first cat was Sassy of course, after the movie. I intend on owning an American Bulldog and Golden before I die! lol

  • Wow, I didn't think I'd cry again since I've seen this movie so many times......boy was I wrong.

  • @Dragonmaster322 i can watch this ending 10 times in a row........ and cry everytime :/ :p :) xx

  • Everytime I watch this I cry like a baby :'(

Especially when Shadow appears, The music gets me. <3 <3

    LOVE this film :)

  • I STILL cry at this at 19. It's just so freakin' happy! That music gets me! :'')

  • Ok, is it only me who wonders how they got much cleaner than before? XD

  • I CRY BITCH TEARS EVERYTIME

  • Being a dog-lover is awesome. I'm 16 and still break down every single time I see this.

  • @fenderguy0982 Only a dog lover? There's a cat in this movie too lol

  • @EternalRainfall We all know that the dogs were the stars of the movie. It was Michael J. Fox and his "mentor" or father-figure, and then there was the cat. I just related most to Shadow because I have a golden retriever mix and it's been my dream to have a dog like him and name him Shadow. Because, you know, that's really really cool.

  • The main reason I wanted and finally got my golden retriever.

  • Every time...every freaking time Shadow comes up the hill and says "Peter...", I start bawling like a baby. :)

  • Despite me watching this when I was 10 now that I am 20, I still cant help but cry especially the very end just fuckin put a knife through my heart

  • My Golden Retriever ran away once and was gone for a few days. I thought of this part when she came home. I cried out of joy when we were having a happy reunion.

  • I feel joy when Chance comes running up, I laugh when Sassy is being held, but when Shadow appears at the last second, I freaking lose it every single time.

  • oh the nostalgy, saw this movie as a kid

  • I just cried. I have to put my dog down tomorrow.

  • Even if Shadow didn't get out on his own, why couldnt Chance and Sassy have led the humans to him so they could rescue him themselves?

  • crying heaps.. but the voice overs kinda ruin it for me

  • Wanna see a grown man cry, show him this XD.

  • Le cry... Dogs, man... dogs :)

  • The other day I was channel surfing and found out that this movie was a remake from a movie in the 60's, I do prefer this one but that could just be because it reminds me of my childhood but the original one was pretty good and just as cute and heartwarming as well and if any of you get the chance I would say watch it especially if your really into OLD old disney classic films

  • I was quoting this the other day and got a tear in my eye.

  • So many manly tears! Pretty much the only thing that seems to make me cry these days. And now it is time to go snuggle my kitty.

  • most inspirational films of all time! made me cry!!

  • frickbrah

  • Damn that dramatic music! It always makes me cry. T^T

  • Outstanding.

  • wen a movie ends widd tears of content. yu know da movie is an amazin one.

  • This never fails to make me cry

  • 3 people never had pets.

  • "Here Chance! Here boy!"

    It's so cute, I'm dying.

  • I have to agree this is one of the best ending to a movie.

  • Omg the ending always tears me up no matter how damn times I watch this emotional movie! And I always cry when Sassy almost dies getting sucked up in that waterfall. Hope looks so young to me 'cause I've been watching the second Homewardbound so much. The first movies are always the best. Gotta love the classics (:. I just love how this family loves their pets and how these pets go to such heights just to be with them

  • you just don't see movies like this anymore:/ instead we have crap like Hop.

  • why is it that older movies are always better like this film for example :P

  • They just don't make 'em like they used to...

  • when ever i watch this i cant help but cry

  • shadows voice HAHAHAHAHA

  • watched this film with my bf ( and yes i blubbed like a baby the entire time) ... later on in the same day HE suggested it was so good that we should watch it again................. this man is perfect :)

  • 7:37 bring on the waterworks! :')

  • I remember being a little girl and always crying my eyes out at this part. Also when Sassy falls into the river, but this part especially.

"You've learned everything you need, Chance. Now all you have to learn is how to say good-bye."

Oh how this movie pulls the strings of my wee little heart~!

  • i am weeping like a baby in the library and i don't even care.

also, how in the world did they train a dog to limp?

  • My brother loved this movie so much that he actually bought a Golden Retriever and named him Shadow. After 13 years, Shadow passed away in early 2007. Every time I watch this ending, when Peter thinks his beloved Shadow is dead, I bawl my eyes out.

  • ...Peter

  • I have never cried at the end of a movie but I came very close to at the end of this film. I remember when I was a kid my mum cried at this and I was too young to understand why now I know why.

  • this show was one of the main reasons i got a golden retriever

  • I love this especially at the end where Peter and Sahdow are reunited and when chance screams:TURKEY!! at the end XDDDD

  • i just cried my eyes out

  • micheal j fox's voice makes this even more epic! :')

  • 8:17 "i miss u and i love u" hahahahahahahahahaha

  • Lol i watch this when ever i need a good cry

  • If you don't cry watching this, then you're not human.

  • @GoDawgs1991 I almost cried.. does that count?

  • @PaintHorseBelieber How bout if you don't feel anything at all then you're not human lol. Not everybody cries, which is fine.

  • Sweetheart, Sassy can't breath!!

    LOL

and 7:38... BEST SCENE EVER! I'm always weeping!!

  • I still cry at the end, and I'm 22. I love this movie :)

  • me and my sister were discussing if i could climb out of a six foot deep hole, i said

"i could lift myself up, but not if it was a pit of mud... like in homeward bound..."

my sister hugged our dog we both started crying

  • If you watched this and didn't cry, I don't want to know you. You're a monster or a robot.

  • My roommate has never heard of this movie before and I was just telling her about it. She said "Oh, it sounds like Bolt!" No honey. No, it is nothing like Bolt. So I showed her the ending without the rest of the movie. That's all it took to get both her and I to tear up.

  • ive watched this movie since I was about 4 I am 18 turning 19, and to this day it still makes me cry everytime no matter what. Just the meaning of it is so amazing. Wish they still made movies like this today.

  • I love the ending its so happy they all made it back home.

  • Im a 20 year old man and this ending still gets me every stinkin time lol I love the background music that builds the moment, its such and awesome ending. :)

  • i dont think ive watched this without crying yet...

  • I have never not cried watching this ending, I grew up with this film XD

  • my dog cassie was my shadow, my sisters dog was chance, and my sisters cat was sassy, i can never watch this film without crying :/

  • Iwillnotcry Iwillnotcry Iwillnotcry

  • I loved this movie when I was kid. Now whenever I watch the ending, I cry.

  • my friend just said this ending was 'vomworthy'- pretty sure she has no soul

  • @vickadorcorporation She must be a ginger.

  • When Shadow appears, I just lose it. BEST MOVIE EVER.

  • 7:50..........there hasn't been a movie since this that has made me cry this much.

And whenever someone and I watch a movie that is sad, they normally say "Man that was so sad, what did you think of it?" I say "Well....it wasn't 'Shadow's Return' but it was okay"

  • I cry SO many times when I watch this film. I love it though. :)

  • God damb computer keys are all wet from my tears!

  • Damn I was Jamie's age when I first watched this film... I remember thinking those other two kids were really old lmao!

Forgot how much I love this movie... The ending is amazing! I may have to do some internet shopping to find the DVD :p

  • 3 people couldnt get out of the hole
