@FoolingWithFuhlen I agree with everything you said but I have a question. In many contact sports boxing for one big example. The combatants are taught never to pull short on a punch as it develops a habit that could cross over into the fight ring.
I'm aware blunt or not these blades could kill but how would you prevent a bad habit forming of "pulling" the stroke. While I know this is no longer "life and death" as it used to be but this group seem very keen on correct technique.
This was OK. however you must as a swordsman learn to deflect the blade slightly using the angle between blade and flat. It is much more useful and if you use your guard properly and catch their blade on your guard you can get the kill in, in an unblock able way.
This video is terrible.they should not use steel blade for practice.its too dangerous.you can practice with wooden sword. watch this /watch?v=P-5IA7VRin8&feature=related
@simplynotfact : Practicing with a wooden sword and using a steel one are two completely different things. You can't JUST practice with a wooden sword and learn to be a real swordsman, you have to know the feel of a real blade. This is ARMA. This is what they do.
@simplynotfact I do see were you are coming from in the safety concerns however these individuals seem very competent and this is a fighting system not a "defence system" and injury while not good is to be expected.
No one wants to really hurt someone while training but things do happen in all contact sports such as Rugby,Boxing and even soccer.
Safety is very important but to expound a deadly martial art in all it's complexity requires realism and some considerable risk and always will.
I'm pretty certain they're not using sharp swords.
There are blunt training swords designed specifically for this purpose.
Yes, a full on blow will fracture or break something. A blow to the head is still likely to kill you. They probably drill the newbies to death before doing anything too risky, like headshots.
@kerumble people used to all the time back in the full force all the time days(something many had to learn the hard way costing quite a bit in medical treatment and replacement training tools) these 2 are very good at this and they both know exactly what the other is going to do and have worked with each other for a long time so the danger is quite minimal
...tldr not to worry they know what they are doing have a nice day
The target of the cuts is the head/neck for both attacker and defender. The defender can also go for a thrust form the meeting of the swords if the defending cut lands out of range, which the defender can do on purpose to set up the thrust. True, the hands are a nice target (usually using the Krumphau to snipe them), but that would be a whole new video. :)
Probably the best demonstration of the Zornhau/Zornhau Ort I have ever seen. I love the speed, control, and intent that these guys are able to use.

I just think they should be wearing helmets at least if they're working with metal swords. It's kind of dangerous otherwise
Narsedax 9 months ago
@Narsedax : The point is to be able to attain a certain amount of control to the point where using a helmet is almost unnecessary.

Superb.
As I'm writing this, only four stars avg of 18 ratings with over 5000 views on this video?! Heresy. Yet another example of Youtube's Mob Rules.
Excellent work, guys.

Erm--Im thinking gloves and a face mask would be a requirement for this kinda thing. Of course, its up to you but it seems sorta basic.
Timerider3 2 years ago
wow, these parries look like it really is best to have some sort of hand/forearm protection.

They're not exactly parries, but the need for hand protection is usually covered by the long crossguards and proper blade angling.
Master strikes ftw! =D

Crossguard suffices.

yes indeed!

Excellent. I'd like to have someone to spare with.

And THAT is how a Zornhau is supposed to be used. Good vid, thanks to John and Aaron, and to S&B for posting it here.
