I love Van Halen, its the whole reason I picked up a guitar in 1986, but after seeing the video with Gary Cherone in the ice cave, I blotted it out, didnt buythat album and have been waiting ever since for VH with Sammy or Dave.
I feel bad for the shit Cherone got for being in VH. I stopped listening VH after the F.U.C.K. album, but remembered some songs off of Balance. After that, VH was washed up anyway. Cherone would have had to had a 1-in-a-million performance on VHIII to have survived. He didn't. But for EVH to crawl out of his ashtray and throw Cherone under the bus for it is low class and shows you what kind of integrity EVH has. EVH and his brother Tweedle Dum have always been the problem off stage.

Gary Cherone is a great singer and performer. Not sure why Van Halen got so much flak over having him. But then again people hated Sammy too even though he was a great singer. There are still those that feel David is the only singer that really belonged in this band. And he did have a unique quality that set the tone for the band in the beginning.
I don't get this DLR business. I saw VH with Dave 4 times back in 2007 and still don't get it. I've been a fan since 1978. DLR with VH in 2007 was not the same as the mighty Van Halen I knew back in the days. After watching the Atomic Punks (VH tribute band), I came to the conclusion that the Punks is actually old Van Halen. It's so fucked up, VH in 2007 with Dave is like a failed tribute band trying to play VH. On the other hand, the Atomic Punks is now the mighty Van Halen!
This just goes to show you that chemistry has as much as being a good musician to make a great band! Gary and Nuno have that chemistry, and even though I liked the Sammy years I think Chicken foot is a better band when it comes to chemistry. VH was the best in the Roth years the sound was more raw and in your face. I cant waite to hear the new album with Eddie and Dave!!!!!! These are just my thoughts. ;-)

I like anything music thats recorded with Eddie and Alex regardless of which singer or bassist. Yeah, Gary Cherone wasn't van halen but the music is pretty good.

Gary got such a bad rap for this. Not only is the guy a fantastic singer, he jumped into fill some of the biggest shoes in rock and roll and did a great job. Great front man too!! I'm really glad he is back with Nuno and playing again though... Extreme 2009+ is insanely tight.
The only reason this line up failed is because Gary Cherone didn't have the power to edit EVH. The songs on 3 were too much about Eddie's playing and not about being good songs.
If only Van Halen kept both Roth and Sammy, we'd have the best of both worlds for sure!! I'm glad that I don't have to argue or help argue that this whole DLR vs. Sammy shit cuz it kills me to see that bands are bashed because of their changes. Roth was great for hard rock and upbeated rock, Sammy was great for that summer vacation/California(<- hope that makes sense) sounding rock/power ballads, and Gary has a unique line of vocals that adds a nice character to Van Halen's inventory of songs.
Just proving that Eddie & Alex are morons. Most bands are the singer, let's be honest, most people don't tune in for great drumming or bass playing.. David was great, and even though totally different, Sammy worked out pretty well too.
Eddie Van Halen must be the most petty person in rock music history. Can someone give me an example of where the lead singer of a band was replaced (besides VH the first time around) and the band continued to have success.
He doesnt entertain like david or sing like sammy, but gary is a great singer who got to be in the biggest band in the world for a short time. We bitch about how he isnt van halen material, but who are we? At least he was there, at least he got to perform with eddie and sing for millions of screaming fans. I would of killed to be him.
I thought it was pretty awesome how each of them sang a verse of the song. And to everyone who says the Cherone was terrible- he really wasn't. He wasn't a Sammy Hagar or David Lee Roth, but he had a tought role to fill and he did a really good job with it.

Hey friends, imagine just take picture in your mind, if Sammy Hagar sings some songs from Exteeme like Get the funk out, Rest in peace, Hip today, Loving you Unconditionally, or More than words, would it be as good as Gary does???
I do think Gary's not doing so bad singing this song, but because i am accustomed to Sammy's voice, make me like old version better than this one.
But that does not allow us to insult or saying that Gary sucks. It is a very naive thing to say.

@downincognito76 i still can remember clearly when V3 appeared with introducing Gary as new vocalist, and i didn't buy the album, coz i don't like. However what i'm trying to say is that Gary just doesn't fit into Van Halen, but with Extreme he is great. He is not a bad singer at all, only just doesn't suit into Van Halen. Blaming him is not fair.

Sammy F'n kills him...really sorry i love Extreme and Gary is a great in his own right but he doesnt touch Sammy in sound, delivery and vibe. none of it...he just doesnt. it aint there to be had. they wanted it because they like Gary, we all do, but it wasnt good enough for VH level and thats why it didnt last, period....this is the FIRST time ive heard Gary with them. so its clear....but Eddies lead vocal, nice !

ive been a VH fan from day 1 and im disappointed when EDDIE got very jealous of DAVE,s swagger and Shine,playa hating at its best.Every body knows that Sammy cant carry Daves jock strap when it comes to the stage or VAN HALEN.No disrespect to Sammy hager but he was out of his league.Its DLR or its generic as hell.it always takes a hater to fuck up a good thing.real talk.

Gary got such a bad rap for this. Not only is the guy a fantastic singer, he jumped into fill some of the biggest shoes in rock and roll and did a great job. Great front man too!! I'm really glad he is back with Nuno and playing again though... Extreme 2009+ is insanely tight.

The only reason this line up failed is because Gary Cherone didn't have the power to edit EVH. The songs on 3 were too much about Eddie's playing and not about being good songs.

If only Van Halen kept both Roth and Sammy, we'd have the best of both worlds for sure!! I'm glad that I don't have to argue or help argue that this whole DLR vs. Sammy shit cuz it kills me to see that bands are bashed because of their changes. Roth was great for hard rock and upbeated rock, Sammy was great for that summer vacation/California(<- hope that makes sense) sounding rock/power ballads, and Gary has a unique line of vocals that adds a nice character to Van Halen's inventory of songs.

Just proving that Eddie & Alex are morons. Most bands are the singer, let's be honest, most people don't tune in for great drumming or bass playing.. David was great, and even though totally different, Sammy worked out pretty well too.
Eddie Van Halen must be the most petty person in rock music history. Can someone give me an example of where the lead singer of a band was replaced (besides VH the first time around) and the band continued to have success.

I just want to say that those who blame cherone for everything wrong in vh and the world that you couldn't be more blind & stupid. Do you really think that Eddie & Alex would have left the course of the band in hands of another person, specially in a guy who just entered the band? Gary didn't compose the whole record, he worked the lyrics. He didn't write the crappy guitar riffs. The whole band is responsible for it, specially Eddie, that play the bass and hired mike post for produccion.
