Wow, called the number and it really worked...Operator from the Capitol directed me to the Senate Republican Leadership office, where I stated my opinion about letting a single individual like Rush Limbaugh dictate the direction of the GOP. I also said that the leadership was elected by it's constituents, not Rush, and that they should feel free to voice their opinion about what is wrong with Rush if they feel compelled to do so.

Owning property in the Dominican Rep is NOT a crime. He doesn't own a "resort" he owns a residential unit at a resort. The investigation, which he submitted himself to, is due to an oversight, that of not properly adjusting his taxes for income on the property. This is neither tax evasion nor a crime - he has already made the proper adjustments and paid the appropriate amount due to the IRS.
This was a non-issue that the NYTs inflated and continued to report on it as if to suggest malfeasance.

Yes and no. I understand that Presidents and/or AGs can replace state Attorneys at will - and this is common practice after the end of an election cycle.
But there were nine firings that occurred in quick succession without explanation and it is believed that they were politically motivated. The fired attorneys brought suits and brought Congress' attention to it.
Regardless of ones politics, this was bad even by Bush Admin's standards.

It could. It should. I'm not particularly happy with the thought of US personelle engaging in acts that are considered torture.
But when weighed against the facts of the current state-of-affairs, I can't help but wonder if it's not a necessary evil. Particularly when dealing with terrorists, who are activly seeking ways to strike the US mainland.

It is a false notion that we have to have one to get the other. We don't have to compromise our ideals for the sake of security.
As a free democratic society we should not succumb to that sort of thing, even in the face of danger.
Moreover, if you look at the effects of torture and the information it produces - it's not worth it. Most times tortured suspects give bad info.
Not to mention that a torture policy puts our troops in danger.

On the subject of torture, you may be right. But we are civilians. Therefore we don't have to stand before the public and explain the death of thousands of US civilians from a terrorist attack.
It's very easy for us to stand on such principles. We haven't taken an oath to defend/protect our people. Clearly (for good or ill) Bush saw felt the necessity.
