  • Amazing film amazing song

  • The 1 person who dislikes this mush have been looking for throw away techno instead of real music.

  • @TakehashiMishi I SAW THAT MOVIE! it wasn't that they were gay, but the japanese guy DID have some type of romantic feelings for him, but he didnt know how to deal with it. the blonde haired dude, however didnt feel the same way, nonetheless, he gave him kisses on the cheek. the kisses didnt mean the same to the blonde dude as they did to the japanese guy. in the end, the japanese guy did have him killed (i think it was him who did that...) even though he admired and cared somewhat for him.

  • The movie and the title song moves the heart, never understand why it did't get Oscars shame on you filmindustry!!!!!!

  • utada hikaru did a cover of this song...the 2 are very different..both are good though...

  • I'LL GO WALKING IN CIRCLES WHILE DOUBTING THE VERY GROUND BENEATH ME........TRYING TO SHOW UNQUESTIONING FAITH IN EVERYTHING....................THIS IS JUST....... SO DEEPLY ......THE SITUATION......

  • Any Sakamato's piece is a master piece

  • Japenese guy was gay. Blonde haired "guy", is David Bowie!! Film wasn't bad.

  • "I'll go walking in circles while doubting the very ground beneath me... trying to show unquestioning faith in everything".

  • This version is from the original-cd "Secrets of the Beehive" (Bonus Track is not on LP), my favourite song ever!!!

  • whats the acoustic song in the very beginning ?

  • tears... tears... again and again

although i've watched the movie some ten times

holy verity holds them all on it's straight palms, their lives and deaths, fear and love...

they were cruel and they could show mercy, they attracted each other though they were enemys... some of them tried to understand each other, though sometimes it was just impossible... not because they were so diffrrent, no, they were't so much different, but because they persisted in their will to see and act habitualy...

  • love this song dont need to no y i do just accept it

  • Sounds a bit like Patrick Wolf at times.

  • My grampa was a pow so this film really upset him but i still love this song

  • im 33 and i love this song

  • great movie. beautiful song

  • this is by far the best version of this track, and my all time favourite song. shame DS didnt do the vid to this version because i'd love to watch him as well as listen. but oh... David Bowie. deeeelish!

  • this is by far the best version of this track, and my all time favourate song. shame DS didnt do the vid to this version because i'd love to watch him as well as listen. but oh... David Bowie. deeeelish!

  • I love the song but, I got this vibe that the blonde haired guy and the main japanese character were gay... Not so sure cuz I never saw the movie... Any detail on that?

  • @TakehashiMishi Not something that actually comes out but yes through the movie you do get that vibe.

The blonde oneis played by David bowie . movie worth watching

  • @TakehashiMishi you must see movie, very powerful and moving, also check out yellow magic orchestra

  • @TakehashiMishi Yeah, it's certainly implied in the film that Sakamoto's charcter has a homoerotic obsession with Bowie's character. There's no explicit statement of either's sexuality but homosexuality is a general theme in the film.

  • One of the greatest Tunes ever!!! I am proud to have the original Maxi-CD. :-)

  • How many versions are there?

  • I know 3 versions with david sylvian: "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence"-OST, "Secrets of the Beehive" (original-cd), "Cinemage" (Special Guest at Ryuichi Sakamoto LIve).

And a very good acoustic version (without vocals) is on "Cinematique" from Chris Minh Doky, who was on tour with Ryuichi in the early '90s.

Feel your heartbeat with this music...

  • Im 19 i love this song because Ryuichi Sakamoto is an absolute legend!!

  • I still have my copy of this on vinyl, though sadly I no longer have a record deck - I cannot get rid of it though. Thank gosh for youtube - I can still at least listen to it whenever I want.

  • Damn, one drunk person missclicked the "Like" button ;/

  • is this movies any good? anyone recommend it?

  • @GiangVanNguyen yes. its on netflix. the movie is very commendable.

  • @GiangVanNguyen i recommend it <3

  • Merry Crimbo, Mr Lawrence !

  • The song is amazing and Takeshi Kitano is the best.

  • What a film that "Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence" is.

  • im 40, i dont have to ask why i love this song, its beautiful.

  • non mi stancherò mai di dire: "AMO QUESTA MERAVIGLIA"!!!!! <3

  • The opening notes at 0:15 immediately bring tears to my eyes.

    Every bloody time.

  • beautiful song!! I love it!! The movie is very emotional and touch me in the soul!!!

  • Eluchopsore: it reminds me of warm toast. LMAO!

  • Thank you so much for posting this.. I absolutely adore this song... Beautiful melody, beautiful Lyrics.. amazing singer/song writer in David Slyvian

  • Forbidden colours i think it means not to do with the song but about the film people cant show they are just people with love and and emotions but cant show that cause that brakes the rules of conflict and war

  • I thought all I needed was to belive...

  • No, it´s not Bowie, is David Sylvian...Beautiful...!!

  • i love this tune.... it reminds me of warm toast.

  • beautiful

  • 2:14: Very touching gesture fr Celliers...but Yanoi's expression fr 2:16 - 2:20: PRICELESS....obviously he's torn between recripocrating & maintaining his tough facade in front of his peers lol.

  • it's not a facade, it's a cultural thing. if u think its a facade, u obviously don't understand the point of this film and need to understand the term 'racist'

  • You obviously are American lol. Let me tell you something upfront- this film touched me in a way no other film had ever done. Hence, I don't need you talking down at me with yr self-righteous pompousness. Oh, and speaking of racism, perhaps there are plenty of shining examples in US society we can all learn from, thanks for pointing that out . There, my points are very clearly made, and I don't wish to repeat myself. Goodbye.

  • Hello Yoka,

    David Sylvian is the singer.

He's the former singer of the band "Japan".
