I think that we are missing the real intention for Green Lane Masjid in this debate and that is to show that we can disagree in a respectful and civil manner. Especially at a time when our young brothers are sisters have a Black and White mentality seeing things as MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY, I agree that the issue is a very crucial issue, but disagreeing on it does not mean we make it a point of Walaa and Baraa between ourselves.
MashAllah great presentation by Assim al-Hakeem & the moderator. I believe in the position of the Assim al-Hakeem because a number of specific Quranic verses and the authentic narrations from the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihis salam. These r enough proof for a believer but the position is also strengthen by the ijmaa (consensus) of the sahaba as reported by one of the renowned Tabayee Abdullah bin Sahqeeq. Brothers & sisters do not leave salah due 2 laziness, this is an act of disbelief.
Masha allah. Sheikh Assim explains great with detailed citation in selected hadith and Dr. abu ameenah philips stated his point of view for some arguements and also in hadith. AND ALLAH AZA WAJAL KNOWS BEST AND THE MOST CORRECT. May Allah aza wajal guides the two of them and grant them deep understand in our religion(ISLAM). May ALLAh AZAWAJAWAL guides US ALL!!!! salam

• As salamu alaikum. We urgently need people to sign the e-petition. We have an opportunity to help brother Babar in the UK. salam, how about those who can not even be called friday muslim or ramzan muslim? they may believe that it is an obligation at the same time are lazy and hardly pray, and believe that if one is nice and good towards others one may eventually enter Jennah
2 - and i believe the point Shaykh al-Hakeem made was that the one who does not pray is a kaafir while he is not praying...but he can always return to Islam (and that is a general rule with regards to those who commit acts of kufr or apostasy). this as more of a difference in fiqh than aqeedah. aqeedah comes in when one completely abandons salah or says that salah is not obligatory. i doubt we would see a debate of this level on the issue of ruling by Allah's laws.
1 - i often thought while watching this how this would apply to the implementation of the Shariah by the rulers i.e. if one in authority implements part of the shariah but not the whole of it - can it be said that he has abandoned the shariah? but implementation of shariah is a different subject matter and deals with tawhid and shirk. prayer is not a matter of tawhid or shirk (unless u are praying to someone other than Allah). abandoning the salah is an issue of kufr...
Oh how I just LOVED ♥ ♥ ♥ this beautiful, (albeit very short) scholarly debate btwn 2 of my fav. speakers & daa'ees. May Allah bless and preserve Sh. `Aasim Luqmaan Al-Hakeem, and likewise may Allah preserve & reward Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips, حفظهمـــــــا الله
> even though I kind "fell for" [in a good sense] the convincing argument of Bilal Philips by the end of the video.. with الصلاة (Prayer in its Totality* in the hadith) vs. صَلَاة (a Prayer, or some, or many thousands of Prayers)
How can someone who believes in Allah not pray at all except out of ignorance and ignorance is forgiven, from what I have heard it is ''abandon'' abandon means to give up so even if they do not pray 5 times but prays Allah knows best but it does not seem to be abandoning. More than likely someone who does not keep his prayer will do a deed or utter a word that may make him leave islam because he is headless anyway we should guard our believe prayer is easy
Bothom line...Both sides presented strong arguments. Both would agree that salah is FARDH 5 times a day EVERYDAY (with exceptions. i.e. women on menses, post pregnancy bleeding, etc). Plz DO NOT take this video as if it was ok to pray sometimes and not other times! What we should learn from this is that we MUST PRAY! Whether not praying sometimes make u a kafir or not (for those moments), fact is that it could still take u to the fire even if u were 2 come out later! DO U WANT JAHANAM!? NO!
they both have good points. the point dr bilal philips made was very good. the number of missed prayers. maybe one person doesnt pray at all except just on fridays or ramadan so that person missed many prayers but one person might pray every day but one day me missed asr does missing that one prayer now make him a kaffir? thats very hardcore if thats the case then i would say the majority of this ummah arent muslin then lol because i kno many muslims have missed prayers
@TheMuslim0, if he is correct, then how many salahs does a healthy and abled person have to intentionally miss in order to get thrown out of the fold of Islam?
@TheMuslim0 His evidence was good, but dr bilaal said the same thing the difference is only on what constitutes abandonment on one hand I don't see how a serious believer can miss his prayer on purpose but then again having lived in the west it is very possible I follow the opinion given from ibn uthymeen this seems to be the soundest and most logical. Allah swt says "I am as my slave thinks of me" If we imagine Allah swt would nullify our islam for one prayer maybe he would be harsh with us

If someone abandons salah and only prayers rarely, I think it just makes him a really bad Muslim.
I like the spirit of this debate. Its not about who is right like the host said its for educational purpose to see two arguements.
I agree with AlihsaanP, The point is you should pray FIVE TIMES EVERYDAY.
Jazakallah Khair for this video
