@JesusFreak116clique Like all foreigners there, expect to get stared at. Specially in villages and in the country-side. Not so much in Tokyo and other major cities, but you'l still get a few looks. It's a natural reaction, because to them, seeing a foreigner walking around isn't normal. At least in the country-side and in small towns. I'm not sure how people will react to an African-American staying there though. No major issue if you're in Tokyo of course. You'l see tons of foreigners there.

Beware though, as some will only be with you or "like" you because you're a foreigner. I want someone to like me for who I am :) Not sure about you though. I'm from England and we have one of the most multicultural societies on Earth. Over here it doesn't matter what colour you are, if you were born here or even if you've lived here a long time and you're a British citizen you're considered English/British. There are some people over here who feel that only white Anglo-Saxon (Caucasian) people can be called English/British...these people are generally considered to be intolerant, ignorant or even racist.
I find this stuff really weird to watch. I'm trying to learn japanese, and I have been for a while. I'm also trying to learn mandarin and french. I'm not doing it to impress anyone. I'm doing to learn about the world, and different cultures. I couldn't give a rat's ass what Japanese people think of me if suprise them with talking japanese. It's basicly impossible for a gaijin to get citizenship anyway, so it doesn't really matter for me. I can learn about stuff without being subject to racism.
I'm more curious how I'd be treated as a foreigner if I decided to live in Japan. Would Japanese be irritated? I know the population density is heavy as is. Personally, I wouldn't mind being referred to as outsider. But besides density, would I be treated as second class or find it difficult to get into social circles for being foreign, etc?

Nothing better than spending some time IN Japan to get the feel of the people, the culture and the language, of course :) The type of job I want to enroll in Japan does not necessariy require a degree, but I still need to contact other companies to find out more. I'm from England and we have one of the most multicultural societies on Earth. Over here it doesn't matter what colour you are, if you were born here or even if you've lived here a long time and you're a British citizen you're considered English/British. I find this stuff really weird to watch. I'm trying to learn japanese, and I have been for a while. I'm also trying to learn mandarin and french. I'm not doing it to impress anyone. I'm doing to learn about the world, and different cultures. I couldn't give a rat's ass what Japanese people think of me if suprise them with talking japanese. It's basicly impossible for a gaijin to get citizenship anyway, so it doesn't really matter for me. I can learn about stuff without being subject to racism.

I'm more curious how I'd be treated as a foreigner if I decided to live in Japan. Would Japanese be irritated? I know the population density is heavy as is. Personally, I wouldn't mind being referred to as outsider. But besides density, would I be treated as second class or find it difficult to get into social circles for being foreign, etc?

You know so called Westerners (aka Gaijins) expect some kind of red carpet treatment when they come to JAPan and they think every country should run like their so called "native countries" because America, Britain Canada, Ausies are better than JAPan. The trick is to "POP" the bubble out of these Bubble Gaijins and start learning JAPanese manners and customs and start accepting differences.

i am actually thinking about going to teach English in japan. i have a degree in Communications from Canada. I am east Indian in colour, but am totally western. no accent or nothing. I am really excited fr my opportunities that is possible in Japan. I really hope to get to teach. Thank you for the video!!!!

I live in Ukraine and here i have a lot of asian-looking friends.. mostly koreans. They are born here, raised here.. They can only speak russian and ukrainian... How can i call them koreans??? They are ukrainians for me. Just ukrainians of asian origin.
May be a lot of people don't accept them... But most of those people are just stupid young "clever" guyz, which don't have anything to be proud of.. just their white ass, so they think they are superior because of that.

It's impossible to become japanese by blood. But i think, the nationality is at first determined by culture, mentality and language.
For example, if white caucasian born in Japan, raised as japanese, can't speak any language besides japanese. But he is anyway not japanese only because he does not look mongoloid? i think, it's really closeminded to think like that.

As for me i intend to move to Japan one day i am Asian Chinese From Singapore i am not afraid of being treated Different BUT as long as i get the respect i deserved as a Human being i am okay :D

Sorry for putting this comment here but it has to do something with the Japan talk 14 Foreigners part 2 . The reason for putting it here is that comment were blocked on for that video . OK so , there you mention that Japan should accept more Foreigner people or to open up for other countries . The thing is why I would really agree to it is that it would change the culture in so many ways . Also Japan as I heard is the safest place in the world the reason why No Foreigner people !!

Don't worry about it, Americans are hipocrites. There's so many racists here that anyone that isn't white is treated as a "minority". I've lived in many countries and the "oh its a foreigner" reactions is NORMAL. I've been born in the US and have American citizen parents and I'm treated like an outcast by Americans because I'm from the Middle East. Don't worry about it.
Why would we lie to ourselves, if you don't look Japanese your not really Japanese. This applies to anywhere humans live.

Wow..your English is awesome, you articulate and express yourself so very well and naturally, from the heart.
I've met and known some Japanese people living in the US for 10-30 years, one of them even had a masters degree in English, and they can barely speak English perhaps about 20% as good and naturally as you do.

i am not japanese and if i went to japan i would not expect ppl to accept me as japanese that is silly to think they would. no people treat foriegners like they treat their own ppl. i do think ppl should be hospitable if they can but why should foriegners have the same rights as natives they should not. if i go to urope they will see i'm not white and they will not accpet me as european even in america if u are not white you are not really seen as american. people just need to accept their own
