In my opinion, today's wreck between Ragan and Reutimann was the worst wreck since the McDuffie wreck 20 years ago. I know the circumstances are in no way similar, but, they are both terrifying.
Very beautiful Brock! A tribute to someone who deserves as much as memory as those that had more success. JD's dedication and persistence of his dream, is a trait so very few, had, or will ever had. He was simply robbed of his catch.
His accident is the reason why the bus stop chicane is there now on the backstretch at The Glen. Such a fast approach into the carousel, the was no doubt that an accident like that was gonna happen. Same with Ayrton Senna in F1 at Tamburello turn in 94 when he had his fatal accident, that turn was reconfigured due to the high speeds in that, at the time, bumpy, sweeping left bend.
It was amazing to see how the little team of J.D's was able to compete week after week. J.D was one of the few last true independents in auto racing. With what he had, he was a real true winner no matter what the statistics say. There is no longer the independents or the little guys trying to make it to the track each and every week.
@ToroRosso20 I think there are still independent drivers, just in the lower levels of NASCAR. IMO, I think how much money and equipment it takes now-a-days to be able to at least run around mid-pack in NASCAR is really difficult, as far as how much competition is involved and how much money needs to be invested into a team more than it was 20 years ago. But then again, it wasn't like I lived to see what went on in the racing world 20 years back.
RIP JD McDuffie. I find his last 2 days (including the day of the Cup race) to be probably the most bittersweet 2 days a racecar driver could have. The night before the Cup race, he won his first race. It's unfortunate that the loop couldn'tve been there back in 91 but like Earnhardt's death we picked up something that would help save drivers' lives by putting the loop in and not the long straightway leading to the corner. He sure was underrated. A true competitor that should never be forgotten.
@TAH2719 i doubt nascar cares enough they would only do it for dale BS!!!!(and yes im glad they did it for dale but the should do it for all drivers as well)
@tonystewartrocks14 He went out a winner.... Other drivers were teasing JD that he'd been holding out on them. But at least he knew that he was a winner. R.I.P.
poor Jimmy Means, he must feel the same as Ken Schrader when he looked into Earnhardt's car

@BWIGG17 I must agree with Biffle, it was the worst I've seen this year

@AutoRockinRacing94 The Johnson wreck in 2000 is the only one that compares I think. Safety needs to be addressed there at the Glen

Robby Gordon might be in that category.

Sometimes we need reminders like this to remember just how dangerous our sport is and the great people we have lost.
