Do you find that the RCAs give a better sound than the USB connection? I use mine with my IE8s and get great Bass too.. Although I don't get a great response with the USB DAC, I recommend this little amp highly..
I just got my ef2....I love it so far!! Thanks for the information on the replacement tubes, I needed to know what kind to get since I had also read that it was best to upgrade. I like the vintage ones you found!!
whoaaa born in quincy? I'm from weymouth right next door! that looks like one solid reliable unit. I think its sooo cool that it uses vacuum tubes. most interesting is how you got those original vacuum tubes built way back, i LOVE old stuff thats been preserved like that and still used so many years later.
Fang's name is pronounced "Fong", but otherwise the review was nice. I like that it works well with very sensitive earphones and full-size headphones. And the USB DAC is basically an external soundcard that improves upon the stock 15" Macbook sound. Cheers!
Vacuum tubes. Look it up on Wikipedia, it's before the invention of transistors. Some say it sounds better than transistors, some say they don't. I say they do. The EF2 comes with 6J1 tubes, but you can put in any 6AK5 tubes.
@pr0xy8998 How they sound is subjective. Anyways, tubes then to distort sound so that they are more pleasing to listen to some people. If you want fidelity.. I guess you should look elsewhere.
@pr0xy8998 vacuum tubes sound better, but apparently they use more Watts, also different tubes sound different...and they kinda shouldn't be touched with our hands because we leave some grease on them, and the heat distribution is not equal...that make the tube's life span shorter :) that's why you should use a dry towel or something like that if you wanted to replace them...hope this helps :D
were did you get the vintage tubes?

You can't have sort of warm and very bright. One or the other. And this isn't worth anything without measurements. Easy. Download rightmark.
