I have ADHD, and while it does help me focus, I believe it is extremely overdiagnosed. People get diagnosed with it simply because it's easier to pop pills than to deal with a hypermental 7 year old. Essencially, if treatment's available, they hand it out like candy. Things like depression and OCD suffer from similar situations. And while I do believe that these conditions may be hindering some people, drugs are not the right way to deal with the problem. Like you said, pillslingers.

I had a problem abusing adderol. My mom got me tested. They shoved me on 30mg. I got addicted with in the first month suffered from addiction for over a year. It was so hard to get off something I didn't even want to take in the first place!

I agree. I actually do have ADHD and I stopped taking the medication because there isnt a dosage low enough for me to focus and not be a zombie. The medication works but it works to well if the dosage is too high.

My sister has ADHD and she takes meds. they also help her alot when she takes them.....However, from a psych majors point of veiw, you are correct, ADHD/ADD medication, is a stimulant.
Many of my friends take the medications to deal with ADHD. I can tell that some of them don't really need to take it while there are others who NEED to be on them in order for me not to have to suffocate them with a pillow while i'm trying to sleep. I think there are a few too many people who take their in ability to pay attention and or messiness to get pills. Also potentially could be a parenting problem in some situations, for example when someone's parents can't control a hyperactive kid

phil, people who actually have ADD/ADHD dont get 'high' off of the drugs, it balances out the chemical levels in their brains making them to a normal level. People who dont need the drugs will get high off of them.
My brother has ADD which ADHD and he found out he has to take them(the drugs) when he was in the 3rd grade so he has been taking them everr morning when he goes to school. My mom did not give him some when he was in 4th grade and the teachers told my mom that he would misbehave so he had to take them.. But to me that is BS because the other kids in his class misbehave and plus at that age you hvae lots of energy

I actually bought my first adderral from a friend who had a prescription for finals (I guess a lot of people sell them around that time of year). When I took it, and felt the effects, I was blown away. I went home and told my parents that I was actually able to focus, and get things done. Since then, I've been on a constant 50 mg dose of Vyvanse, which is similar to adderral, and my life has improved tremendously. I can actually focus in school and do my work in a timely manner. It's amazing.
Lets just say...I know two people that have ADHD and take the drugs for it. They're serious about the medication and it helps them in their daily lives. I know over twenty people that take the drugs for ADHD and don't need to. Personally, I don't think that the drugs are a good thing. They need to be tightly controlled and not so loosely proscribed.
There are a lot of different drugs approved for the treatment of ADHD, some don't have much demand/value for recreational drug users. Amphetamines are probably most desirable. Stimulants, in general, cause a lot of anxiety. Amphetamines give me too much anxiety to take unless I'm just in a comfortable environment all day, and the effects last for quite a while.
I know some people actually don't have ADHD, but my brother does, along with Aspergers. I don't know what he's taking now, but when he doesn't take his pills, he's way more irritable, can't focus, and is just generally insensitive to everyone around him. ADHD pills help him calm down and listen to people. He takes fish oil too, but I don't know where my family would be without his meds.
I've been on ADHD meds since I was 3. When I was 3 I was put in a children's crazy house off and on for years. I've been on like 5 different ADHD meds, and I feel different from each one. Adderall works the best for me. There's a huge difference. When not on them, I can't think. Can barely focus on a single thought I have.
I've been trying to find natural alternatives, though, like fish oil. Pharmaceuticals are evil. lol

Sooo honestly for me I do have to take medication for it everyday and drepression pills for the anxiety and because I barely found out about it, the pills have made a huge difference. I can understand things better and I feel normal which is great! So I think the medicationis good but I do know that some people take advantage of it, so I think the patient should get tested to make sure they have it and then get given the medication.

I've been taking ADHD pills and they suck. I've tried 10 different ADHD drugs and all of them make me not eat, so I lose an unhealthy amount of weight, not sleep, exetremely pissed of at annoying people, and once the pills wear off I become reaaally hyper.
people think they have add or adhd but people have done test simular to this where they take flavoured yogurt and put food coloring in it and then see what flavour people think it is, 50% of people guessed the blue yogurt was blueberry flavoured when it was pinnapple, my point is, sometimes what ur thinking about can affect ur reaction. so is u think the meds are working they might work, but really ur brain is expecting it to work so u end up focusing better

@csi0093 my first prescription for ADHD made me pretty violent, i no longer take any pills for it and i am completely fine. sxephil is right it is just a way for people to blame their laziness and insubordination on a disease.

I was diagnosed with depression when I was 7 and had meds since, and not once did I ever notice an difference taking them. o-o As soon as I had a choice, I stopped taking them, have just continued work on being a well-rounded happy person, and that's been fairly successful.
Parents are really bad about giving their kids the medicine. If a child can't sit in class, but they can sit in front of a TV or computer, they don't have ADHD, they just are lazy and don't want to do any work.
My doctor told me to take the pills because I day dream and I couldn't focussed so I started taking them and I was on it for 4m and while I was on them all I wanted to do was sleep but I couldn't and it just made me not myself so I stop and right after I stop using them I started to feel a lot better
I've been taking those pills for about 5 years so far and NO good effects whatsoever, just depression, lack of appetite, and I am feel tired but I can't sleep!

I actually bought my first adderral from a friend who had a prescription for finals (I guess a lot of people sell them around that time of year). When I took it, and felt the effects, I was blown away. I went home and told my parents that I was actually able to focus, and get things done. Since then, I've been on a constant 50 mg dose of Vyvanse, which is similar to adderral, and my life has improved tremendously. I can actually focus in school and do my work in a timely manner. It's amazing.

Lets just say...I know two people that have ADHD and take the drugs for it. They're serious about the medication and it helps them in their daily lives. I know over twenty people that take the drugs for ADHD and don't need to. Personally, I don't think that the drugs are a good thing. They need to be tightly controlled and not so loosely proscribed.

There are a lot of different drugs approved for the treatment of ADHD, some don't have much demand/value for recreational drug users. Amphetamines are probably most desirable. Stimulants, in general, cause a lot of anxiety. Amphetamines give me too much anxiety to take unless I'm just in a comfortable environment all day, and the effects last for quite a while.

I know some people actually don't have ADHD, but my brother does, along with Aspergers. I don't know what he's taking now, but when he doesn't take his pills, he's way more irritable, can't focus, and is just generally insensitive to everyone around him. ADHD pills help him calm down and listen to people. He takes fish oil too, but I don't know where my family would be without his meds.

I've been on ADHD meds since I was 3. When I was 3 I was put in a children's crazy house off and on for years. I've been on like 5 different ADHD meds, and I feel different from each one. Adderall works the best for me. There's a huge difference. When not on them, I can't think. Can barely focus on a single thought I have.
I've been trying to find natural alternatives, though, like fish oil. Pharmaceuticals are evil. lol

I personally do have that. Sooo honestly for me I do have to take medication for it everyday and drepression pills for the anxiety and because I barely found out about it, the pills have made a huge difference. I can understand things better and I feel normal which is great! So I think the medicationis good but I do know that some people take advantage of it, so I think the patient should get tested to make sure they have it and then get given the medication.

I've been taking ADHD pills and they suck. I've tried 10 different ADHD drugs and all of them make me not eat, so I lose an unhealthy amount of weight, not sleep, exetremely pissed of at annoying people, and once the pills wear off I become reaaally hyper.

I was diagnosed with depression when I was 7 and had meds since, and not once did I ever notice an difference taking them. o-o As soon as I had a choice, I stopped taking them, have just continued work on being a well-rounded happy person, and that's been fairly successful.

My doctor told me to take the pills because I day dream and I couldn't focussed so I started taking them and I was on it for 4m and while I was on them all I wanted to do was sleep but I couldn't and it just made me not myself so I stop and right after I stop using them I started to feel a lot better
