  • wowwwwwwww....

  • Dislikes on this video? What!?

  • Redman will melt all of our faces off.

    Fucking hell he's good :D

  • That's the first saxofone "BeatBox"... great Joshua. Cheers from Rio/Brazil

  • oh mah gaasshh! switching between slap tongue like that. i gotta learn to do that

  • Me too Seattle is the shit

  • AGREED!

  • I saw him play this tune 2 years later, just this past summer at the jazz alley. He is so killer now. I think he's done a hell of a lot of growth in a short amount of time

  • Comment removed

  • I don't see how that has any bearing on my comment. I can still be aware of his playing and how his individuality has developed regardless of that.

  • Not alot of people know this about Josh Redman but he was abandoned as a baby and raised by a pack of wild sax players. This man is King of the Beasts on the Tenor sax.

  • Hahaha!! That explains a lot, Warmachine!

  • not even by sax players. just by some personified saxophones. thats why he learned to play sax as a first language, to talk to them. then he learned english as a second language.

  • @Warmachine48235 in the beginning of your sentence I was like =O !! But then I'm like hahaha ^_^

  • AAHAHHH SSSHHITTT!!! Redman is such a beast. Definitely become my favorite sax player in the past year.

  • un total maestro Joushua

  • that is a Selmer Paris mark 6

  • no, it's what BJHicks said. it's on his website

  • Only it isn't. If you look at the octave mechanism, you will find that it is a Super Balanced Action.

  • its a super balanced. i was at this show and i've seen him 4 times

  • anyone know what kind of sax that is? loving the sound and in the market for a new sax

  • He plays a Selmer Super Balanced Action. They were made between 1948 and 1953. You're not likely to find one locally, and they don't all play the same. Check out the Reference 36 and Reference 54 models made by Selmer at a local shop.

  • yes buy one and you will sound like him.

  • Not exactly what I meant. The Reference 36 is modeled after the 1936 Balanced Action, and the Reference 54 is modeled after the 1954 Mark VI. I've tried several Mark VIs and they are very inconsistent from one horn to the next. Some are incredible while others are just awful. The Reference 54s I've tried have all been consistently excellent.

  • Haha, you will always sound like you no matter what instrument you have.

Though it does help to have one that works haha.

  • @whatsyourstory1 Just practice tone isn't it.

  • dead wrong...a reference 54 will not make you sound exactly like josh...a good horn does not equal a good player, josh would sound about as badass on a yamaha YTS 23.

  • he would sound badass on a tenor with half of the keys missing

  • awe"fucking"some

  • awe "crazy damned fucking" some...

    he's a monster...

  • He's the crazyest mutha fucker on earth!!! GO Joshua Redman!!

  • Joshua Redman is one funky mothafucka. And he definitely deserves extra cool points for the slap tonguing!

  • Absolutely! I saw Redman at the Vangaurd in NYC last March, and he blew my mind! It's crazy to think that he wasn't even planning on doing music for a living!!! lol

  • Redman's progression in ability from his first album to this kind of stuff is nuts.....

  • He does slap tongue so good. he makes his sax sound like a bass guitar.

  • I love the song and I think Joshua Redman's great!

The slaps themselves aren't the hard thing here. It's the phrases he does between them that really gets you in the groove.

  • Totally agree with the dude below. Its fucking crazy good!!!

  • So when I first heard this song on the CD... It blew my mind so hard that I was laughing and falling off the couch... Redman is incredible!

  • lawl... great!

  • ...indeed!...

  • who did this song can any one help please?

  • Waddaya mean? Joshua Redman played it...and he composed it, too.

  • well therea a band in the uk with guitarist guthrie govan and they play it i knew it was a cover but i did't know who wrote it i did't know trhis guy did'it

  • GOD

  • i love this song!!!!!

  • i love this song it's on my iPod

  • Ive always wanted to see him do that live, the recording hes way cleaner though, but its still pretty amazing, almost brecker-ish definitely something to shed
