@LongLiveTheKing1986 I know it may look that way, but black people are charged with hate crimes all the time (Look at the data in the FBI Uniform Crime Report on black-on-white hate crimes). If fact, the Supreme Court decision on hate crimes (Mitchell vs. Wisconsin) was a case of a black on white hate crime. There just haven't been any high profile murders of whites by blacks based on race. At least not as horrible as Jasper. If there was, it would be prosecuted as a hate crime.

A few years ago I actually wrote Lawrence Brewer a letter and he actually seemed like a pretty nice guy. The guy was definitely a racist and was certainly not remorseful for his crime, but he seemed like a nice person based on his correspondence.

Yes this is true but they are not prosecuted under "hate crime legislation" Just run of the mill murder statues. Murder is murder and there is more than enough laws to cover this without creating a special circumstance. Murder is generally a hate crime no matter what race. As you are familiar with crime stats and proportion you would know that more black on white crime takes place than the other way around. I just don't see the need for a special designation for murder.

Ken Tillery was at a crackhouse the night of his murder. And what was James Byrd Junior doing before his death? He was walking home from a family party.
