An important difference to bear in mind between Ashcroft and Barley : Ashcroft desperately needs money to get what he thinks he wants. Barley is never ever short of money. It seems to me that's an important undercurrent in the show - how people can prostitute themselves for worthless leeches, their own idiocy leading them to do this more readily than they might really need to.

here's my theory on the show. all the characters are idiots. dan tries to beat the idiots every week and every week becomes one himself. his sister is always using and exploiting others. pingu puts up with pranks in the hope he will be more popular being nathans friend. nathan succeeds because he is always himself, he's oblivious. don't think you are better than someone even if they are idiots, be true to yourself. just my thoughts. :D
