Look up any 80's hardcore band. That's punk. Try Minor Threat, Black Flag, SSD. You could go for the 90's even with Cheap Sex, The Casualites, and you can go with NOFX for any of them. Rise Against is not punk.

I don't even mean this offensively. And yeh, I DO know there are PLENTY of other punk bands I just named a couple, after all, one of the best parts of a new band is FINDING them!
