Main differences: 310 is cheaper. 400 has a set neck and the 310 has a bolt on. The g400 has grover tuners, the 310 has unbranded cheap tuners. The 310 has the larger batwing pickguard. The 310 has dot inlays the 400 has trapezoid inlays. The g400 has better quality pickups, they are also covered. They are the main differences with the specs. There both great it just depends on how much money you want to spend.
400 is much smoother sounding right thing for bluesy clean sounds but 310 is a monsterrock axe with my big muff pi distortion best stuff for that money i guess
I think G-310 is not clear sounding but I think it's closer to the standard than the G-400. But I only listened from the demos on youtube. I was troubling how to choose from them.
my first guitar was the 310 now i have the 400 i like the 400 much more it looks sexyer, feels nicer, the cherry red looks amazing in the light. only down side of the 400 is i don't like how it doesn't have the full pick guard.
@GuitarFreak1901 Yea i already have my new guitar (which is not one of theese Epi's but it's Ibanez that also have two pickups and volume knob for each other so i can do a "killswitching" ... but i found out that it's useless to use it as a killswitch, and i'm also afraid that if i killswitch i will screw up the pickup selector.
well dude, i would shut up because while ur talkin about ur epiphone g310 i have a better guitar..i dont evn know why im waisting my time over this shitty guitar.....and again , why the fuck would an sg have a les paul neck, it makes no sence dude so please shut ur mouth and stop waisting my time(i find ppl like hilarius)
@billyanhiers It makes perfect sense nimrod the SG was going to replace the les paul way back when but Paul said no so they made it its own guitar, so its basicly the same thing just looks different, unless your talkin bout a Gibson you have not an Epi.... thats a different story haha
In my opinion, Epiphone guitars are far from crap. It's when people get unlucky or just buy the cheapest stuff that they start having defects. Gibson guitars are AMAZING guitars, but for the value Epiphone>Gibson. Fureal.
the g-310 is pretty much an sg with a les paul neck so if you plan on playing past the 17th fret A SHIT LOAD then get the g-400. but honestly just go to your local music store and give em a try.
@Cuervo4992 hmm no u dumb ass a g-310 is an sg with an... oh idk , an sg neck maybe?? im pretty sure they wouldnt butcher guitars and sell them with wrong part there buddy... nice try though
@billyanhiers i know the g-310 is a sg you dumb shit. i was saying it's and sg with a les paul like neck so yeah shut the fuck up. thank you. fuckin ignorant ass people
@Cuervo4992 well why would an sg have a les paul neck??? dude i dont get it if its an sg then it would have an sg neck??? why dont u use ur common sence wow think before u talk
Replace the tuners on the G-310 and you have a pretty nice guitar for the money. Alnico vs. Ceramic and Bolt on vs. Set neck are both a matter of taste. I think the g-310 may be better for rock.
both suck mad balls.....get a faded Gibson SG $800-$900.......buying a gibson is an investment even if its a less expenive one..... buying ANY epi is like buying toilet paper......
Whatever dude....i could make a $100 guitar sound good.......it all depends on how gay you wanna look....
A grown man should be playing a real sg..... not a chinese piece of shit, i like my guitars to be Canadian or American...... (however i do have a Hamer studio that was made in Korea... but ive had that since i was 15...... and im 28.... )
Any given day....78 maple neck LP custom (500t/498r)or my 2008 Explorer '78 reissue (EMG ZW) or my Godin LG w EMG 81/89
Gibson's most powerfull pickup; 500T or you can go with Duncans, DiMarzio or even EMG HZ. The thing is, they have to be passives 'cause you won't be able to fit a 9v battery in it (actives).
hi! yes im planning to get my first electric guitar, i've had my acoustic for about 3 years now and ive pretty much been playing rock tracks on it. i beleive i should get something with two humbuckers so not the fender and something i wont have to replace. so which should i get? special, g310 or g400 im on a tight budget btw. reply asap yo!
its not an expensive guitar, but costs more than the G-310, but the G-400 is a lot better,
If it's your first guitar, my advise would be not to get the epiphone series, get the fender squier, costs slightly less than the G-310, but a great all-round start
ok i am getting an Epiphone SG, im a beginner and i want to know if i should get a g310 or a g400?, i was looking at an ebony black g310 but i saw this vid and i am concerned about which is which :\
the g310 is the shit one bad sound awful body the g400 is the white one it cost a little extra but sounds great with great pick ups great feel and its lightweight
just think of it this way... g-310 100% epiphone.... g-400 gibson authorized and 80% gibson =) i would pay the extra 100 to get the g-400.. and personally... i like the trapozoid inlays instead of the dots =)
can someone please help me with a related question: How is the action, tuners, and overall feel of the 310? If i got one I would personally be replacing probably the bridge pickup with a gibson dirty fingers, so the sound doesnt matter as much as the playability. PLEASE HELP!
i have a Epiphone g-400 custom with 3 pickups and it pwns. you can watch my channel if you dont believe me. ive played 310s and they are okay, the only thing i lie about them is the full pickguard. besides that they are meh, like bolt on necks and sgs dont mix,
how do you like the g310 better the only difference is the body is alder vs the g400 is mahogany and the pickups on the 310 are worse than 400 cuz they don't use alnico magnets but then again if you like the alder sound more power to u because i think the sg special also come with alder bodies
i have played a normal epiphone g-400 in store. it was amazing then i saw on ebay an epiphone g-400 limited edition with gold harwere with lyre vibrola and i bought it i can tell you that the humbuckers are much better than thze normal g-400 alnico v so if you wanna have a sound of the gibson special try looking into ebay and find some limited edition guitars... but its quite expensive (but worth it)
g310 all the way! uncovered alcino V pickups sound better than covered ones. and the pickguird on the g310 looks way better than the reissue one on the g400. that lookds like shit
I would definitely go for the G400. The neck is alot easier to move with and (besides looking better) i actually found it easier to tune. I got an G400 about a year ago now and it is easier to play. I had my g310 for about 2 years and its did well but it can't stand up to the G400 xx
nope. has the same exact pickups. Alcino V's made in china. look it up. the g400 ones are just covered, which in my opinion, dilutes the sound and makes it too muddy. i like the crunchiness of uncovered pickups better.
310 was voted n rated by epiphone as the greatest sg there made love it rich sound great craftmanship never done me wrong the 44 is great lets face it all epiphone is great i think better than gibson even though there own by them so wat i think that epi is the new gibson like we all know the young fresh guitars great there both got the same coils pick ups n if u dont know that go n see them built like i have nways epi rules plus i m in a punk band n the 310 is suited to my style. cheers.
dude the 310 has open coiled cheap humbuckers, a friend had it and its an ok guitar if youre begginning but if youre getting serious get the g 400, it has a faster neck and much better stock pickups and trapezoid inlays, juts more detal and caftmanship effort and sonds much better for maybe 100 bucks more
i have a 310 and it feels better than a 400. but then again, i'm sure there are better features on the 400. plus it kinda depends on what kind of music you're trying to go for... so really either one is alright. if you're a beginner, go with the 310. if you're more experienced, go for a 400.
umm the bolt neck is the best i dont know wat ur talking about u dont know shit about guitars if gives it not just a great sound but is strong as all shit my 310 is great trusty guitar sounds great great coils n pickups never done me wrong. all guitarists like the 310 i have been in concerts n had other guys play my 310 love it n buy one.
310 all the way i got one best 250 bucks i ever spent sounds and plays amazing and i love it if your going to buy a 400 or so dollar sg-400 why not buy a cheaper schecter or ibanez with floyd rose tremolo
1. There is no proof that a set neck is better bolt on.
2. Mahogany wood isn't better than alder made just for different music. mahogany=metal,or death core alder=rock hard rock and classic
3. The pickups on all epis on the necks stink! So get new one onc you buy it. Also i own a 400 and 310 i like the 310 more cuz of the feel. Also i put 490's in it and it sounds amazin. Glad i could help!
the 310 is a cheaper buy and probably more for beginners than pros but if your going for that metal look which says i dont care its probably better than the 400. the 310's pickguard is bigger which looks like whoever wants to play it is probably gonna bang the shit out of it. as for actual value, if you want an SG the 310 should be fine, if you wanna buy something as expensive as the sg 400 id reccomend a different make of guitar. more bang for your buck :)
yo dude definately go for the 400, the humbuckers are nicer, it has a set neck, great tone, and just plain looks beautiful. I have a 400 and i friggin love the thing. I just think the 310 is low quality.
Wife is getting me for Christmas the Epiphone SG-400 in the dark cherry and a Roland Microcube amp. After shopping around testing the 310 and 400 in the guitar centers checking reviews and research, I chose the 400 It sounds better, feels better and looks better. just my personal choice. I always research a product for months before I buy. This will be my first guitar set up. Only time will tell if I have made the right choice guys.
I've had both. The 400 is much nicer compared to the 310. Stays in tune better, the pickups are far better, and the mahogany body is nice. it's only $100 more for a new one, but I picked up a used one for $250, and that included an amp I sold for $100!
dude if u got the $ i would go for the g-400 more expensive but way closer to the original sg
better quality, pickups, and i think its got a set in neck, and paralellogram fret markers. the red 310's finish is disgracefull much better in heritage which u can get if u buy the g400
try both of them, I would go for the 310, it is much better priced and I've played both of them and the 310 sounds and feels like a better buy, I'm probably gonna buy one in a few weeks.
Question for you; the G310 looks like it has a shorter overall length than the G400. Am I right? The most common complaint about the 400 is that it's neck heavy, but if the 310 is shorter it should balance better. These may sound like dumb questions, but if anyone knows I'd appreciate the help.
I have the g400 but i have never tested the g310, but i really prefer the look of the G400 !
Also, the g400 is a better guitar in terms of quality ! of course it's more expensive, but you have to pay for the quality (it's not a gibson but ... almost )
g-400 but in a different colour there are faded versions of it in cherry and there beautiful and there are a lot more good features about the g-400 for only about 100 more the nice trap inlays the smaller pickguard looks better the covered humbuckers and mostly the ability to be able to reach the 22nd fret with ease that is after all one of the two main reaosns SG's were created and if you cant reacht he 22 then theres not much point just get a les paul (after all that my point is get the g-400
Im a just starting to play guitar and i was wondering if i should get a g310 set or a g400 and buy the other stuff, i am on a budget so plz suggest what gear i should get.
Well, i dont usually post on here but i have to say the g310 sucks. The g400 is worth the extra money just for the set neck. Add the cosmetics and the better tone and its a much better deal.
SG G310 it's a monster!

Differences
G310: Alder body, bolt on neck, ceramic pickups, lower-grade tuners, dot inlays.
G-400: Mahogany body, alnico pickups, trapezoidal inlays.
Replace the tuners on the G-310 and you have a pretty nice guitar for the money. Alnico vs. Ceramic and Bolt on vs. Set neck are both a matter of taste. I think the g-310 may be better for rock.

hey guys i play heavy metal what should i buy g310 or g400?
sepul21 2 years ago
these guitars are practically the same. if you play metal i'd suggest an explorer or v. looks coller and sounds better
GMS0623 2 years ago
310 was voted n rated by epiphone as the greatest sg there made love it rich sound great craftmanship never done me wrong the 44 is great lets face it all epiphone is great i think better than gibson even though there own by them so wat i think that epi is the new gibson like we all know the young fresh guitars great there both got the same coils pick ups n if u dont know that go n see them built like i have nways epi rules plus i m in a punk band n the 310 is suited to my style. cheers.

g400 all the way
aceofspades163 2 years ago
dude the 310 has open coiled cheap humbuckers, a friend had it and its an ok guitar if youre begginning but if youre getting serious get the g 400, it has a faster neck and much better stock pickups and trapezoid inlays, juts more detal and caftmanship effort and sonds much better for maybe 100 bucks more
play3apesta 2 years ago
g310 is the winner i think. its much cheaper and its looks a little better

SG G400. It looks better
Anghorn32 3 years ago
either way, they both are decent guitars.
i have a 310 and it feels better than a 400. but then again, i'm sure there are better features on the 400. plus it kinda depends on what kind of music you're trying to go for... so really either one is alright. if you're a beginner, go with the 310. if you're more experienced, go for a 400.

EVERYBODY!!!! i have a 310(watch my vids) it has never failed to please me yet.
musicmooyer 3 years ago
Get a G-400. The 310 has a BOLT ON neck which is terrible. Also, it has crappy pups and dot inlays.
ItzAmazingBrian 3 years ago
umm the bolt neck is the best i dont know wat ur talking about u dont know shit about guitars if gives it not just a great sound but is strong as all shit my 310 is great trusty guitar sounds great great coils n pickups never done me wrong. all guitarists like the 310 i have been in concerts n had other guys play my 310 love it n buy one.
guitarledgend1990 2 years ago
no, set neck is more sturdy and durable for OBVIOUS reasons....
GMS0623 2 years ago
310 all the way i got one best 250 bucks i ever spent sounds and plays amazing and i love it if your going to buy a 400 or so dollar sg-400 why not buy a cheaper schecter or ibanez with floyd rose tremolo

epi 310 is a shit, but the g-400 ;)
zeroskaterboro 3 years ago
No one looks at the facts!
Glad i could help!

sg g310 better...
glyukker 3 years ago
the 310 is a cheaper buy and probably more for beginners than pros but if your going for that metal look which says i dont care its probably better than the 400. the 310's pickguard is bigger which looks like whoever wants to play it is probably gonna bang the shit out of it. as for actual value, if you want an SG the 310 should be fine, if you wanna buy something as expensive as the sg 400 id reccomend a different make of guitar. more bang for your buck :)
ShadowSea666 3 years ago
The 400 Because Of The Sound it just melts perfectly and the pickups (I just Like silver pickups instead).
ELEMENTZERO666 3 years ago
you can buy silver pickup covers for like 15 bucks
HHguitar 3 years ago
yo dude definately go for the 400, the humbuckers are nicer, it has a set neck, great tone, and just plain looks beautiful. I have a 400 and i friggin love the thing. I just think the 310 is low quality.
nascarfreak54321 3 years ago
Wife is getting me for Christmas the Epiphone SG-400 in the dark cherry and a Roland Microcube amp. After shopping around testing the 310 and 400 in the guitar centers checking reviews and research, I chose the 400 It sounds better, feels better and looks better. just my personal choice. I always research a product for months before I buy. This will be my first guitar set up. Only time will tell if I have made the right choice guys.
JERRYR708 3 years ago
sg 400, I've got one and it play's really nice! And i think he's far better looking than the older version. But that's my opinion.
How much does a sg-400 ebony cost in USA? Because I bought mine for 375 dollar.(Europe)
raoultjah 3 years ago
I've had both. The 400 is much nicer compared to the 310. Stays in tune better, the pickups are far better, and the mahogany body is nice. it's only $100 more for a new one, but I picked up a used one for $250, and that included an amp I sold for $100!
rkc5150 3 years ago
i got the 310 and i have not put it down since i've owned it.
eze543113 3 years ago
dude if u got the $ i would go for the g-400 more expensive but way closer to the original sg
better quality, pickups, and i think its got a set in neck, and paralellogram fret markers. the red 310's finish is disgracefull much better in heritage which u can get if u buy the g400
alohastewie 3 years ago
try both of them, I would go for the 310, it is much better priced and I've played both of them and the 310 sounds and feels like a better buy, I'm probably gonna buy one in a few weeks.

i think the look of the g310 is better than the g400 but the g400 plays a lot better and the g400 has grovers=)
guitar1wizard 3 years ago
Question for you; the G310 looks like it has a shorter overall length than the G400. Am I right? The most common complaint about the 400 is that it's neck heavy, but if the 310 is shorter it should balance better. These may sound like dumb questions, but if anyone knows I'd appreciate the help.
mcgoodle 3 years ago
i would like the 310 great reviews on it and the pickgaurd on the 400 just looks weird

for the extra $150, go for the 400. I have the 310, but only paid $180 for it. If you were to buy one new, save for the 400.
rkc5150 3 years ago
i got the g 310 check out my videos its me playing it, i really like the guitar.
XRockxxStarX 3 years ago
I've played both, and the G-400 plays a lot better
rossington15 3 years ago
I have the g400 but i have never tested the g310, but i really prefer the look of the G400 !
Also, the g400 is a better guitar in terms of quality ! of course it's more expensive, but you have to pay for the quality (it's not a gibson but ... almost )
darkPaillasson 3 years ago
ilike the pickguard on the 310 better, but they made a stupid mistake in making the neck so weird

g-400 but in a different colour there are faded versions of it in cherry and there beautiful and there are a lot more good features about the g-400 for only about 100 more the nice trap inlays the smaller pickguard looks better the covered humbuckers and mostly the ability to be able to reach the 22nd fret with ease that is after all one of the two main reaosns SG's were created and if you cant reacht he 22 then theres not much point just get a les paul (after all that my point is get the g-400
AngusYoungFan1994 3 years ago
between these two guitars, i say the g-400, a lot better features on it that could come in handy later on

Im a just starting to play guitar and i was wondering if i should get a g310 set or a g400 and buy the other stuff, i am on a budget so plz suggest what gear i should get.
111thMuse 3 years ago
Of course you should get a G-400 it is much better and looks much better. I have one and it is really good! 5/5 for G-400
FreeSmileysHere 3 years ago
Well, i dont usually post on here but i have to say the g310 sucks. The g400 is worth the extra money just for the set neck. Add the cosmetics and the better tone and its a much better deal.
