@cvanunen@Velox415 And living without meaning is extremely distressful. please watch "Moez Masoud- Parables in the Quran" on youtube, and I promise you will learn something good
Second argument was interesting. If one thinks about it, if Christianity is true, then God did indeed choose people on Earth to be special. However, the Bible never addresses the idea that life may exist outside of Earth. It is focused on the story of humans. It's entirely possible that a god like the Christian God has also chosen intelligent beings of other planets as his special people as well as us.
The only argument you can make against that is from implications in Genesis. Not very strong.
I think one of the main reasons why Christianity is deteriorating is because the religion is based off of a book called "The Book," which was written several thousand years ago by people that didn't know what the moon or sun really was. Plus evolution... Basically, someone tried to come up with an answer for everything.
Though no one joins me, still I will follow. (3 times)
No turning back, no turning back.
The cross before me, the world behind me. (3 times)
No turning back, no turning back.
the guy who first sang that song, sang it as a tribal leader killed his wife and family and then himself. do you have something to die for? if not, you have nothing to live for
Someday, in 2,000 years or so, all of our descendants will be studying the ancient mythologies of of the 21st century world, just like we study the ancient mythologies of Greece and Rome.
She said "I am a logical person. If you present me with theoretical stuff, I will doubt it until you can prove it" - 0:37. But theories come from logic deduction and if you are yourself logical, then you can follow it and believe in it but you will have some doubt. That's why religion is not a theory.
I have a great faith in Allah, our creator. You really need to be more honest with yourself and think if you really take full control of yourself, or that Who created you really has full control of you, and He even lets you choose to believe in Him or not. If you honestly seek His help, He will guide you. Many people get misled by seeing how religious people behave or think. But everyone has a mind so he/she really has to build their mind independently of other people
@AKHZ If you built your mind independently of other people, you wouldn't have been brainwashed into religion. You were convinced by other people, most likely your parents, that an imaginary friend in watching you and guiding you. Now take your own advice, and snap out of it!
hello, building my mind means to listen, to observe then to open books, to question people, their ideas ans beliefs, seeking the true religion with its true teachings. God is the One who understands you when no one does however a close friend he is. Haven't you ever felt deeply painful? do not you feel in these very moments that there is God.Can we find a huge splendid palace in deep desert then we believe it has been made over time from small blocks until it finally looked
@cvanunen@Velox415 this beautiful, or it should have a maker? When rain falls, do not you feel there is an entity that has power over all creations, and in just one moment the rain can switch to a catastrophy and all die, like a Tsunami? This life which is full of suffering has never been a purpose by itself. In every moment you need to feel safe, and this is just by believing in and loving the Creator, and the day of judgement when everyone will be rewarded according to his deeds.
Thought I'd share some interesting view points related to some of the topics you mentioned in your video. I isolated the parts related to biology; please have a look:
This is an inspiring video and message - no doubt.
Thanx for sharing!
Atheism, or unbelief, is the fastest growing worldview on the planet. People, just now, are beginning to shed their religious doctrines as more information becomes available through scientific discovery.
I too know what it is like to believe STRONGLY in a "god" and creation... I know how frightening the concept of "hell" can be to a young, impressionable mind.
Aside from logic and reason and evidence... it takes courage!
Sophie's World is one of the best books I've read.
And while the microbial ancestor did come first, ultimately the egg came before the chicken, because egg-laying creatures evolved hundreds of millions of years before chickens first appeared.
I use to be a hardcore christian, until I started researching for myself. I then denied my faith and called myself an agnostic. The only reason im not atheist is cause (after 10+ years of research) i believe that yeah there is a "creator", but only for terrans. The earth itself was here on an evolutionary scale, but terrans weren't from this planet, but were brought here. Every civilization from sumerian to inca's state that we are from the heavens(sky), hence we are alien to this planet.
I am an atheist, so my actions are not controlled by any religion or any person. My actions are controlled by myself. I think about my actions, so i'm not a criminal or a serial killer because I know my actions may cause harm to others, so I don't steal... or kill people. By causing damage to other people, I'm damaging society, damaging everything, even myself. Religious people don't commit crimes because they're afraid of hell, even though they want to commit crimes. Who's a better person now?
Since you've studied science then answer me this: What made the cells want to self-replicate each other? Hmm? How did they figure out to do it? Who is the ancestral thing that made cells? How did the cells in there body learn how to adapted to the environments. Last question: Where is the Complete evidence that everything was mad from that one cell and how did it live when there was no air after a billion years? Because I know there were no trees millions of years ago. Lets see the proof!
@fanatgelover The first cells originated from a meteorite that crashed into earth. The meteorite had contained many different proteins and other organic materials. In it were also cells, where the first cell came from we do not know, YET. The cells evolved to the new environments relatively quick because of the fast reproduction rate going through generations in a matter of minutes. You learn all of this is a biology class, you know, they have them in things called schools?
@fanatgelover Stop. Just...stop. There are very basic life forms that don't need oxygen to survive, and those show capacity to grow and evolve into more advanced life forms, even today. "Air" has been here ever since we acquired an atmosphere which was before science claims life. Study any chemistry and you'll understand how it works. No, what you need to be thinking to prove god isn't some flaw in science, you are over thinking it, or...under thinking it. Not sure which, really.
@fanatgelover If you are going to defend the existence of god, then just think logically, not by trying to poke holes in concepts you clearly only have a vague understanding of. "God" cannot, in anyway, "exist" in the sense we would think of it. But, that does not mean there isn't one. You're probably confused...XD Think of it like this. Imagine you give a computer simulated A.I. actual intelligence, and designed a simulated environment for it, based upon laws you set. -continued-
@Theearl444 The A.I's world be completely defined by these laws, i.e. one must have a point of origin to exist, one cannot occupy more then one space at a time, one must move in a straight line, the list could go on forever. The point is that YOU are no defined by these laws you make up for this simulation. To YOU it's not even real. We've literally created a separate mode of existence, a universe.
@Theearl444 Now as we've said this thing is actually intelligent, but to you it's just some pixels on a screen. It's "moving" and "existing" by the laws you set in, within it's parameters, but bound by these limited parameters how can it possibly even begin to comprehend YOU. To you it's not even real, you are not bound by ANY of the principals which tie it's existence together. With a few key strokes you can rewrite it's entire existence without blinking an eye. Continued.
@fanatgelover XD accidentally replied to my own post there. Point is, more alarming, perhaps, you can pause and rewrite the laws to this "world" at any time and the A.I. would have no perception of it. You can alter it's data just by shifting about a few one's and zeroes. THAT, is what god, if he exists, would be, to us. Asking "who created god" would by like that A.I asking "but what is god's server registry?
@fanatgelover The old favorite "ah, but could god create an immovable boulder and then move it," would be like that A.I asking YOU to move three spaces in a straight line, not stepping back unto the space you started from, and still end up there. You don't require square pixelated blocks to "move". These things don't even APPLY to what you are. Constancy, linearity, logic, all these things are just the laws WE must operate on, not an entity capable of making them.
@fanatgelover XD In long winded conclusion, anything anyone claims disproves god's existence, is just a false argument. But anything attempting to bring "it" "he" "she" (the very concept gender even applying to such a hypothetical entity is pretty dumb) into the terms of our world, is just as stupid. So let's agree that God cannot "exist" but could still...we don't really have a term for it. Hyper-exist? Shit, I dunno. Point is people need to admit they have no idea. On BOTH sides.
If you go back "To the beginning" was that a perfect nothing? How could there be a perfect nothing? There had to be something, or nothing couldn't exist. Very likely, there was a perfect something. This perfect something existed to create, while the perfect nothing existed to destroy. The Question...What side be I..?
You know, neither will ever be proved with sufficient enough evidence to convince everyone. So if you want to try to figure it out, then go nuts. I just want to enjoy life, be good to others and do my thing. That's just me though. Life is what you make of it.
Logic was created by God. I too love logic. I am too logical to understand how something could've come from nothing. Evolution is based upon facts that suit the evidence and not vice versa. The law of entropy still exists in the world dear and things are not built up they are torn down. It is illogical to think that the entire complex structure of life was born out of nothingness, and then illogically reversed its own nature to create what was inherently creationless: Nothing. Think About it :D
Technically speaking, "religion" as in the organized plural is just a societal tool rather effective at motivating and curbing in hostile extremes. When it becomes a problem is when it itself becomes a hostile extreme. Personally I don't think that "god" and "religion" have anything to do with one another. Anyone who doesn't believe in religion should stop trying to disprove religion by saying God doesn't exist. Because scientifically speaking, "it" might. And religion would still be a fallacy.
But that is a qualm with religion itself, not "god".You are fighting Religion, not the idea of whether or not "God" "exists". If you are going to debate that, then stop thinking on such basic levels. Religion is a fallacy, that much is obvious to anyone who even remotely knows human behavior and history, but "God's" existence is another thing entirely. Technically speaking, if "god" "exists" he would be as we are to, heck, a video game AI. He would "exist" outside logic itself.
It's ok to believe in the concept of God being the reason the Big Bang happened and life evolved from the remnants of the way space time and matter formed itself through gravitational pulls of the heat giving Stars, us humans are just lucky to be alive and thinking such things as is there a God or isn't there when the one thing we can all agree on is there was something there before the big bang, what, we don't know, but you can't build something out of nothing... Well C.H.I.M.P.S?
@b4u334 Ok you win, science is my faith based religion. Now let's go to the top of a 700 ft cliff, me with my faith based parachute, you with your God, and let's jump. I'll give you a thousand dollars after we get to the bottom.
@johnclimb Uh no actually. A hang-glider uses faith based scientific principles. You can't just switch religions when it's convenient. I said it exactly how I meant to say it, now whether or not your God is up for the challenge really isn't my problem. Let me guess, you're probably one of those Christians that uses medicines and antibiotics that are discovered using evolutionary principles, once again when its convenient. Bible = Fiction = Obsurd.
@cvanunen Yes I get sick of people saying Atheist need faith. I say to them, no you need faith to believe in my invisible, intangible, silent purple dragon living in my garage. You don't need faith to believe in a coke can because it is real like evolution.
Betcha you get nothing out of it - unless you are able to be honest with yourself - cuz then you might get some insight into the fact that there is no god.
Us followers of the faith based religion of science don't really call it a god per say. More like observable, tangible, peer reviewed facts pertaining to our natural world. Unfortunately I'm a pilot, so I have to test my faith in science daily. Now if you're referring to my challenge to jump off a cliff, me with my parachute, you with your God, I would probably advise you not to test your god. I'm sure he and Santa would share a good laugh at your expense.
im 15 and im athiest because i see how religion is just some bullshit circle while science continues to go further and further and actually having proof
@cvanunen yes... but they are all still theories, which means they would require some faith, in the least bit, to say you believe in them. which would make science your religion. In all actuality, stories in the bible can be proved to be true or have taken place, through science and, mind you, this is your science that you believe in so much. I would also like to hear your scientific analysis of phenomenons such as the Incorruptible's...
@cvanunen Absolutely, there is a huge misconception of the word Theory in our society. They think that a theory is just a hypothesis, when in fact, a theory is the end result of countless experiments that indicate almost absolute consistency and certainty. They don't understand that science doesn't create theories and laws because it hates religion, in fact, it doesn't care, science simply seeks to understand the natural world revealing a by product in which that there is no necessity for a God.
@Alraera I'm an atheist because, I always had questions as a kid and I was never truly satisfied with the given answers. As I grew older and I became aware of other faiths, then I thought to myself If I was born to:- a Hindu, a Sikh, a Muslim, a Jew, a Buddhist, an Aboriginal, a native American Indian, a Shinto family, a Taoist, an Akan family, a Scientologist etc. Wouldn't I just follow the family religion as most people do? If so then doesn't that make religion just an accident of birth?
Im 14, been athiest since i got into politics at age 9, hated everything, and then just thought. Its amazing what you can do when you think. I think the reason why religious people stay afraid is because of a self taught psychological brick wall of shame, and guilt. Its great to know that you can be free, i wish you converted or deconverted i guess sooner because you dont have that looming chest pain of guilt. You're free to be, without the need of an almighty judging you for everything, and us
haha if you didn't like "theories" and you are so logical you sure are convinced of secular theories rather quickly (ending Catholicism belief in 12th grade), how can you say "Understanding how life on Earth started and has evolved, god free." when that was derived from..."The Big Bang THEORY".... not to mention all the other "theories" in science. Also, would it be too much to ask for you're backed up research on these planets with life that you said with such conviction, exist?
@b4u334 No. Evolution doesn't have anything to do with the big bang theory. It is simply the method by which life changes over time, making it compatible with any theory about the origins of the universe.
You go girl. My transition took years. I loved church and was an alter boy. Over time all my "training" went the way of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. I'm basically a closet atheist and have many Catholic friends. One of my best friends is a priest who entertains my questions. Recently I asked him why God rewards the gullible. Knowing how the church changed over time really bothered me until I realized it's like any pathological lie which gets more and more involved.
Congrats to this girl...and anyone who enlightens themselves to the point where they realize it isn't necessary to believe silly bronze age superstitions. The truth that modern science has shed on the world is much more incredible, and awe inspiring than ANY religious text.
I became an atheist because for 3 lomg years i was bullied for the strangesr reasons and suffered from depression, and God never helped me. To me, preaching about jesus and how he saved us sounds like a mis-guided person (that is speaking) And bassically all my friends are either atheist or other religion NOT christian. Their influence is probably the greatest
@Anonymouskmn thing is, first year of my depression i went full out faithfull. I prayed every night that, maybe, just maye, tomorrow will be better. But no, YWHW is just some stupid made up deity that man created to make themselves feel better. And why dosn'y God help the millions of starving people around the world? Is he going to totally ignore his creations just because they don'y have total utter blind faith in him?
@momookim Agnosticism is not a third option (between theism and atheism). You're claiming you don't know. That says nothing about whether or not you BELIEVE a god exists. You're either an agnostic theist or an agnostic atheist, those are your choices. Then there's gnosticism. For example, I'm an agnostic atheist about the Christian god. I'm a gnostic atheist about Zeus.
ive found that alot of athiests seem to get alot of their ammo from the crazy jesus freaks. ha when it come to the kingdom of god there are a few catagories you should be aware of
- the nuts
- the mislead
- the catholics (i love jesus but hate the catholic church)
- the angry and bitter
then there are the christians that are actually doing their job right. being kind and respectful to all no matter what others think, or feel on the subject of god. those are the people you wanna talk to lol
you should have stuck to agnosticism like i did. how do you know that god didn't initiate the big bang and pce out after that... i mean there are so many possibilities for how god could work. as an atheist, you assert that none of them are true. and you hardly have an argument to directly contradict the existence of any sort of supernatural being
It's amazing the box people put themselves in. Women as natural followers...wow you're an idiot. My daughters are leaders and the science mechanic buffs in our family...my sons are the artsy caregivers. All my kids are accomplished young adults. I was a single dad. Oh yeah, I was raised with all that biased lunacy. Step out and really question your assumptions and you will find a very different reality. Institutionalized bigotry of any kind takes a while to undo but it will be undone.
@DraconoSapien - although, I am very optimistic in her view that the reason why women aren't thinkers is because they are customarily not exposed to it, but where the conflict arises, is that the 1960s should have created a cultural opportunity for women to thrive, and they have yet to. Maybe there are still stigmas, but I highly doubt it. Where I agree with Solomon is that Women, because they are followers and not leaders, are more prone to picking up bad ideas.
@DraconoSapien - And don't consider me some misogynist either, because I'm partial to philosophers like Mary Wollstencraft, although I disagree with her on many points: I like and agree heavily on the idea that women can and should be great, independent and well rounded thinkers; however, regardless, the fact still remains that if women were naturally independent minded they'd have accomplished more in this society then they have...
@sids500 - the basic philosophy of Meta-Ethics, which is the only vestige of hope for your meaning as a human being in secular society, is already being branded a dying philosophy in favor of Cultural and Moral Relativism. Basically, unless you want the whole purpose behind your existence to be the petty fact that it seems pretty to be the only thing that gives you worth, I'd suggest you start reading that book called the Bible.
@sids500 - and I know what I said was true because to assume it wasn't would destroy the worth of every human being on the planet. Do you realize that if it weren't for the bible there's be no America, there'd be no Magna Carta, there'd be no women's rights, there'd be no human rights in general; everything virtuous relies on the validity of Scripture to hold true.
@sids500 - Because it's mainline history that the Nazis were affiliated with Theosophy, and that the Aryan bullshit comes from that! You obviously went off a blind intuition there buddy. Go read up on Theosophy if you don't believe me. I know because I've researched the philosophies of Theosophy, I've studied the occult in depth, I know because I've spent upwards of two and a half years worth of accumulated research over a span of 6 years time. I spend every waking moment I have learning ab
At 3:05, you write that life created itself, yet you claim to have a scientific mind. I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no scientific basis for this claim. I like how you displayed the Miller-Urey experiment diagram as if that is some sort of scientific evidence. It was unable to produce even polymers, let alone a cell with DNA. It's a joke. And at 3:40, you write that there are other planets (with life). Once again, an assertion from ignorance, not observable science.
@DeadFiahFactory - It is their land. God gave it to them to fulfill His covenant with Moses and the Israelites. Trust me when i say that anyone whom the Israelites conquered deserved to be conquered.
@therightintelectual How can you possibly know any of what you just said is true. Clearly you cannot. Feel free to demonstrate it to me........Its wish-thinking nonsense, manipulated merely to fit your scriptures and beliefs. Get a life, and i mean a real one, not the subservient yet arrogant, closed-minded one that religion provides.
So ironic, that first you claim to discern unsubstantiated argument and then you put a series of unsubstantiated evolutionary mantras-claims (Muller's experiment, terrible and outdated by scientific research Dawkins' book and a naive theory of abiogenesis). You do not seem to be not aware of firmly scientifically supported data pointing and Intelligent causation, or you strategically bypass them ... because moral Creator may stand on the way of your sinful conduct? Just guessing...
So what convinces you that there is no God is the existence different theory? It's not that God is impossible (God = Abrahamic deity, god = a deity), but that there are alternatives to the creation question? If you want to focus on good, logical thinking, then do as they do in Mathematics. To prove something is wrong, show it's impossible.
There are very convincing arguments for a god to exist. The Church embraces logic and has put forward several deductively valid arguments. (see Aquinas)
@HBStork It doesn't matter if the Church can produce a logically-consistent model of a God. Without any observable evidence, it's all moot.
Take string theory, for example. It is an interesting model that is mathematically consistent and may unify quantum mechanics and relativity. However, none of it can be empirically tested, so science isn't too quick to accept it.
@Herrknittler - I've done years worth of accumulated research on what I'm talking about. Go read a book that isn't full of revisionist nonsense. Go watch the old History Channel documentaries too. In fact, go watch an honest documentary or two on Hitler and the Nazis in general. You have successfully proven that you don't know the first thing about what you're talking about.
@HerrKnitler - I'm sorry; how don't the Nazis have anything to do with this discussion? Your argument about the Bible is specious; the Jews only fought to protect their homeland, go read scripture, and you should read history: You'll find that the Nazis embodied the philosophy I'm talking about. Why do you think Hitler loved Nietzsche? It wasn't because he was this orthodox Christian, I'll tell you that much.
@therightintelectual I don't exactly see how the Jews were protecting their homeland when they simply claimed it from themselves from the Palestinians. It wasn't even Jewish land even in the Bible. The Jews took it from the Philistines, or whoever.
I'm not saying Israel shouldn't exist, or that Jews are bad people; but, god-damn, don't pretend that it's your land just because an old book says so.
@Alraera I dunno if the school themselves intended on it being that way or not but I think it's really just the "good without god" thing. Like I'm a better person thanks to that place. I don't hate them because they're religiously based, I fucking love that place. I think that, and mind my slightly conceited spin, but I think that had I gone somewhere else and not been educated by people with good hearts, even if they are good because of religion, I would have turned out a lot worse.
@M5000thesdgversion Teaching can be a noble profession; I've had a lot of great teachers, too (and some not so great), throughout my religious K-12 schooling and my secular university undergrad, grad, and professional classes. I guess I don't look back fondly on my all-girls Catholic high school years because of a lot of the cattiness and fakery that transpired, both between students and administrators.
@Alraera Like I *think* I said somewhere, maybe not, it's the whole "Good (not without, but not necessarily with) god" concept, if you get what I mean.
@M5000thesdgversion I agree, those religious values like women being barely better than slaves and animals, raping a virgin gives you a wife for 50 shekels, or homosexuality being an abomination are awesome!
No, wait, not awesome. Disgusting. You might as well be advocating Mein Kampf.
"Oh, I don't listen to all that stuff about intolerance and Jews, I like his ideas about politics, economy and strong government!"
@Abedeuss I dunno man, there's not all bad concepts brought on by religious groups. Who says you need to be 100% faithful to any one thing? (Besides the groups themselves, but that's a logical fallacy.)
if there is no God then what is the reason for living? in your thinking, you are going to die, probably be buried and that's it. u r here for about 75 years and then nothing. u wont remember anything, people might remember you for a 100 yrs then nothing. so what is the point in living anyways? just to make the best of it. imho, i dont think so. there is more to it. u cant come close to explaining how once cell "knew" how to become an intricate eye
@22mheath "What is the reason for living?" You enjoy life, the point of life is to secure the safety of the next generation and passing your genes to them. If your purpose of life is to worship a god who probably doesn't exist, then I feel very sorry about you as you have a very... very sad life. Perhaps if you studied biology, you'd know how the "intricate" eye came to be.
If you understand the FACT that we humans are part of the universe, i'm sorry. We are the universe experiencing itself.
@jolohmm : that still doesnt escape the fact that after you enjoy life, as you say, it is all over. no more you. u might say it is easy to enjoy life but i think living a life in which you have a death sentence is actually depressing. with God, there is no death sentence. i dont have a sad life. i live every day knowing i have a future, you dont. you dont have a future. urs is death.
@jolohmm: part 1: u want some facts? most athiests love facts dont they? well here are some cold hard facts for you. nature hasn't created anything by herself in as long as you say the universe is, hmmmm 10 billion years. it has been proven over and over and over that she cannot produce nothing but simple form and structure, i.e. a snowflake. nothing beyond simple form and structure. a zillion planets, a zillion years and not one piece of evidence pointing to the contrary!
@jolohmm : part 2: a little closer to us and you can look at the moon. not one piece of evidence of anything remotely close to anything beyond form and structure. you would think we would have at least one simple intricate something over a zillion years, but NOTHING. look at our planet. the only things beyond simple form and structure are things made by intelligent designers. leave nature by herself and NOTHING. maybe some desert dunes, or a beautiful cave but simple form!
@jolohmm part 3: u would think that here on earth where we have brilliant people such as yourself we would have at least witnessed nature build a simple mouse trap (im not talking about living organisms either, im talking about nature on her own because that is how you believe things came about from nothing). Nature hasnt even come close to producing even a simple mouse trap. it has NEVER been proven NEVER and NEVER will.
@jolohmm part 4: put all the pieces of a simple mousetrap on the surface of the moon and i bet in another billion years there wont be a mouse trap. unless you have proven otherwise. and you want me to think the human brain came from a single cell? Ha. do you know how complex it is? can you explain consciousness and how it evolved? the odds that we came from nothing far outweigh the odds that an intelligent designer created everything
@jolohmm part 5 if i would have told you a thousand years ago that men would create universes that were controlled by people and you could play the role of God you would have hung me on the next post and let my flesh rot. but today we have intelligent designers building games like that and more all the time. UNREAL stuff. it isn't too far fetched to say that God created us in much the same way. all things around you have been designed by intelligent designers. cars, houses, planes.
@jolohmm : im not comparing God to a video game designer but imagine he is one that is unlimited. He is like one. i am trying to put it in a rationale that can be compared. sorry i rambled so much but i didn't know that i would be cut off every 300 or so words, lol.
@22mheath I'd like to reply to all of your claims, but i'm almost 100% that you will just repel everything that I say and not understand it. Precisely, the beauty of the universe is within itself. As you've mentioned, caves, sand dunes, moons. These are all by products from the laws of nature ie gravity, natural selection, and others, Don't even get me started on the "Intelligent designer" because with all the design he's made, he's pretty fucking stupid, srsly, warm blooded humans? Rofl.
@jolohmm part 6: all nature has done by herself here on earth is simple and has never ever been proven otherwise. on the moon the same. take a zillion planets and stars the same. the moon right now is exactly like earth was billions of years ago except that no intelligent designer has acted upon it and created the water, the plants, the animals, like God did with the earth. all you see are craters and wind swept dunes. simple form. and it has the best chance for life of any!
@22mheath So.. in the end, you're still living in a delusion where you fit your reality with what YOU want, what is actually there. :) Do research and you'll be able to answer your own questions, goodluck I hope your journey will enlighten you from your fairy tales ;) Realizing that a just and loving God wouldnt allow all the evil shit that happens in the world, but instead, he does ;) Btw, the universe is 15billion+ years old. And it created life, black holes, etc, those arent intricate?
@jolohmm : The reason there is so much evil in the world is because God gave man one of the greatest gifts, free will. Think about it. That is the ultimate freedom. If you created a world with people, one of the greatest gifts you could give them would be free will. But with that freedom you have the choice to choose right or wrong. That way we are not mindless robots. Also with free will we show the ultimate choice in bel or not bel in God. Evil comes from the evil acts of men!
@22mheath You bring up the concept of free will.. Free will is having the choice between pizza and hotdog, it wouldn't really affect you. The free will of choosing between going to heaven or going to hell is more like extortion or blackmail. Learn the difference please. What's wrong about being mindless robots if we're going to rejoice in heaven? It's as if God WANTS people to go to hell because he gave them "free will". Besides, aren't religius people mindless robots anyway?
@22mheath I don't judge. I say it as I see it. To explain what I mean by mindless is.... do you actually read the bible yourself? Any atheist or agnostic will tell you to read the bible yourself. It's the quickest route to understanding that religion is a bunch of scattered ideas that don't make sense. Instead of being fed the good and delightful verses, do some research yourself. I love some of the morals in the bible, sure. However, that doesn't justify it so that it may be considered fact.
@M5000thesdgversion : thats cool. no offense taken. basically what i was trying to convey was that the reason God lets evil happen is because he loves us so much that he wants us to have free will. however, with free will He knew we would choose evil too. if he didn't allow evil to happen then he couldn't give us free will. he hates the evil that man does but has to allow it to allow for free will. it is also the perfect way in which to see who will choose him.
@M5000thesdgversion : i know i am not probably telling you in a very articulate way. sorry for that. you seem like a cool person. and i do enjoy your insight on things. i am just trying to clear up any misconceptions you might have about the God i believe in. if you want me to shut up and move on i will. sorry for bothering you if that is the case.
I find it interesting how you say you respect me and my beliefs after calling me clueless, ignorant, arrogant, and blind. But rest assured, I will show you more respet than what you have asked for.
@IamHubertus She is just saying what she really thinks. She doesn't want any harm to anyone by saying what she said. Even though she is asking for respect she probably thinks you will think similar things about her.
This video just made me sad. I'm also in biology, but I still strongly believe in God because of how much he had helped me though my life. I just have one question, atheists think the bible is just a book that is untrue, but what about the science books written by people? And Also what's the harm in believing in God? Do we die a horrible death for believing in him? Nope I don't think so.
@DodieZ17 yeah but c the thing is we know that that still actually happens and we have proof you dont you have a book and what people said they went through a long time ago
Unfortunately there is such a thing as corruption throughout history, but let's separate "religion" from the idea that there is a higher power that we cannot comprehend. Religion really is a mean's to explain the unexplainable in our world and Universe. Now you make some good points, however you Disregard the most important issues and Topics that point to perhaps a higher Power exists. So exp.1- Just because you state the Universe is 10 billion years old or whatever you just write it off and...
@Labruin1414 -- ... say it doesn't concern you. How does it not? It's the origin of every particle, element, etc that ever was and will ever be. It is such an unexplainable event, that I think your too scared to get into, because it always lead's to something that cannot be explained no matter the science. Now again I have to say let's separate a belief in "God" or "Higher Power" then religion.
Exp.2 is you make the common statement yes we now what came first the chicken or the egg. Okay yes...
@Labruin1414 --.... Single celled reproducing micro-cells came before and evolved, but again you haven't answered anything at all in terms of proving there is no "Higher Power", again NOT religion. Its the same question, well what came first single-celled Micro-bacteria or what? Bands of DNA protein, or what before that? Its the same Chicken and the Egg theory but insert any-kind of cell or life form and you still get the same answer in the end... we don't know, we can't know. . Please prove me.
@Labruin1414 ... wrong in some way, so in rather then just becoming an Atheist becuase you don't beleive in Religion or you don't want to think about how the Universe was made becuase it was so long ago, I kow life is a scary place sometimes, and it's Human nature to seek answers, but That Fight and Will to keep surviing, keep living that every Animal and Plant on Earth has, could be that Peice of the "Higher Power" or Love of God. I myself went to Catholic school all my life... and Like you-
@Labruin1414 - I was heavily influenced during those High School days by certain books, Etc, But don't let the mistakes of many Humans with free will blind yourself to the true miracle of existence. The day someone can tell me exactly how the Universe was created and exactly what caused elements from space to react in such a way that it created that first building block of life, then I am not going to firmly believe, I CAN'T firmly with no doubt in my mind say that some "Higher Power" that we..
@Labruin1414 -- cannot fully understand or comprehend exists. I appreciate if you read through this very long reply, but I just feel Atheists, are too quick to eliminate God from existing because they are upset with how other Human's have tried to explain their version of things that can't be explained. I myself am Spiritual and believe that the ability and inner ability to want to live is the greatest gift we have been given.
Congratulations. Excellent video. Morality is pretty universal when not distorted by religion and like religion itself, evolved to help humans survive in groups, unfortunately, in the modern world, religion is no longer useful and is an ongoing impediment to human progress.
@ullrichfischer Where do you think Morality came from per chance? Is it an innate thing you are born with? I think the only innate trait you are born with is the desire to eat breathe and sleep. Morality is taught, unless you want to conceed that something other than pure cell division has an input into the moral character if it does not need to be learned from someone else (as in not innate).
@Renagadesalmon - That is true, but Cultural Relativism might as well be a form of Nihilism. Read in-between the lines; if cultural relativism is adopted as philosophical truth, then anything can be justified, therefore invalidating the principle of morals, and that is where Cultural Relativism us nihilistic in nature.
It's difficult to NOT look down on superstitious people.

Not very strong.

if you love logic read Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
Sprinic1501 1 day ago
I think one of the main reasons why Christianity is deteriorating is because the religion is based off of a book called "The Book," which was written several thousand years ago by people that didn't know what the moon or sun really was. Plus evolution... Basically, someone tried to come up with an answer for everything.

DayOldSoda1 5 days ago
@fanatgelover Stop. Just...stop. There are very basic life forms that don't need oxygen to survive, and those show capacity to grow and evolve into more advanced life forms, even today. "Air" has been here ever since we acquired an atmosphere which was before science claims life. Study any chemistry and you'll understand how it works. No, what you need to be thinking to prove god isn't some flaw in science, you are over thinking it, or...under thinking it. Not sure which, really.
Theearl444 5 days ago
@fanatgelover If you are going to defend the existence of god, then just think logically, not by trying to poke holes in concepts you clearly only have a vague understanding of. "God" cannot, in anyway, "exist" in the sense we would think of it. But, that does not mean there isn't one. You're probably confused...XD Think of it like this. Imagine you give a computer simulated A.I. actual intelligence, and designed a simulated environment for it, based upon laws you set. -continued-
Theearl444 5 days ago
@Theearl444 The A.I's world be completely defined by these laws, i.e. one must have a point of origin to exist, one cannot occupy more then one space at a time, one must move in a straight line, the list could go on forever. The point is that YOU are no defined by these laws you make up for this simulation. To YOU it's not even real. We've literally created a separate mode of existence, a universe.
Theearl444 5 days ago
@Theearl444 Now as we've said this thing is actually intelligent, but to you it's just some pixels on a screen. It's "moving" and "existing" by the laws you set in, within it's parameters, but bound by these limited parameters how can it possibly even begin to comprehend YOU. To you it's not even real, you are not bound by ANY of the principals which tie it's existence together. With a few key strokes you can rewrite it's entire existence without blinking an eye. Continued.
Theearl444 5 days ago
@fanatgelover XD accidentally replied to my own post there. Point is, more alarming, perhaps, you can pause and rewrite the laws to this "world" at any time and the A.I. would have no perception of it. You can alter it's data just by shifting about a few one's and zeroes. THAT, is what god, if he exists, would be, to us. Asking "who created god" would by like that A.I asking "but what is god's server registry?
Theearl444 5 days ago
@fanatgelover The old favorite "ah, but could god create an immovable boulder and then move it," would be like that A.I asking YOU to move three spaces in a straight line, not stepping back unto the space you started from, and still end up there. You don't require square pixelated blocks to "move". These things don't even APPLY to what you are. Constancy, linearity, logic, all these things are just the laws WE must operate on, not an entity capable of making them.
Theearl444 5 days ago
@fanatgelover XD In long winded conclusion, anything anyone claims disproves god's existence, is just a false argument. But anything attempting to bring "it" "he" "she" (the very concept gender even applying to such a hypothetical entity is pretty dumb) into the terms of our world, is just as stupid. So let's agree that God cannot "exist" but could still...we don't really have a term for it. Hyper-exist? Shit, I dunno. Point is people need to admit they have no idea. On BOTH sides.

Y0urbestfriendME 6 days ago
Technically speaking, "religion" as in the organized plural is just a societal tool rather effective at motivating and curbing in hostile extremes. When it becomes a problem is when it itself becomes a hostile extreme. Personally I don't think that "god" and "religion" have anything to do with one another. Anyone who doesn't believe in religion should stop trying to disprove religion by saying God doesn't exist. Because scientifically speaking, "it" might. And religion would still be a fallacy.
Theearl444 6 days ago
@Theearl444 Sure.. But the religious people always try to impose their views on everyone else.
jolohmm 6 days ago
But that is a qualm with religion itself, not "god".You are fighting Religion, not the idea of whether or not "God" "exists". If you are going to debate that, then stop thinking on such basic levels. Religion is a fallacy, that much is obvious to anyone who even remotely knows human behavior and history, but "God's" existence is another thing entirely. Technically speaking, if "god" "exists" he would be as we are to, heck, a video game AI. He would "exist" outside logic itself.
Theearl444 5 days ago
It's ok to believe in the concept of God being the reason the Big Bang happened and life evolved from the remnants of the way space time and matter formed itself through gravitational pulls of the heat giving Stars, us humans are just lucky to be alive and thinking such things as is there a God or isn't there when the one thing we can all agree on is there was something there before the big bang, what, we don't know, but you can't build something out of nothing... Well C.H.I.M.P.S?

@cvanunen Absolutely, there is a huge misconception of the word Theory in our society. They think that a theory is just a hypothesis, when in fact, a theory is the end result of countless experiments that indicate almost absolute consistency and certainty. They don't understand that science doesn't create theories and laws because it hates religion, in fact, it doesn't care, science simply seeks to understand the natural world revealing a by product in which that there is no necessity for a God.

HBStork 1 week ago

You have successfully proven that you don't know the first thing about what you're talking about.
therightintelectual 2 weeks ago
@HerrKnitler - I'm sorry; how don't the Nazis have anything to do with this discussion? Your argument about the Bible is specious; the Jews only fought to protect their homeland, go read scripture, and you should read history: You'll find that the Nazis embodied the philosophy I'm talking about. Why do you think Hitler loved Nietzsche? It wasn't because he was this orthodox Christian, I'll tell you that much.
therightintelectual 2 weeks ago

@M5000thesdgversion Teaching can be a noble profession; I've had a lot of great teachers, too (and some not so great), throughout my religious K-12 schooling and my secular university undergrad, grad, and professional classes. if there is no God then what is the reason for living? in your thinking, you are going to die, probably be buried and that's it. u r here for about 75 years and then nothing. u wont remember anything, people might remember you for a 100 yrs then nothing. so what is the point in living anyways? just to make the best of it. imho, i dont think so. there is more to it. u cant come close to explaining how once cell "knew" how to become an intricate eye
22mheath 1 week ago
@22mheath "What is the reason for living?" You enjoy life, the point of life is to secure the safety of the next generation and passing your genes to them. If your purpose of life is to worship a god who probably doesn't exist, then I feel very sorry about you as you have a very... very sad life. Perhaps if you studied biology, you'd know how the "intricate" eye came to be.
If you understand the FACT that we humans are part of the universe, i'm sorry. We are the universe experiencing itself.
jolohmm 1 week ago
@jolohmm : that still doesnt escape the fact that after you enjoy life, as you say, it is all over. no more you. u might say it is easy to enjoy life but i think living a life in which you have a death sentence is actually depressing. with God, there is no death sentence. i dont have a sad life. i live every day knowing i have a future, you dont. you dont have a future. urs is death.
22mheath 1 week ago
@jolohmm: part 1: u want some facts? most athiests love facts dont they? well here are some cold hard facts for you. nature hasn't created anything by herself in as long as you say the universe is, hmmmm 10 billion years. it has been proven over and over and over that she cannot produce nothing but simple form and structure, i.e. a snowflake. nothing beyond simple form and structure. a zillion planets, a zillion years and not one piece of evidence pointing to the contrary!
22mheath 1 week ago
@jolohmm : part 2: a little closer to us and you can look at the moon. not one piece of evidence of anything remotely close to anything beyond form and structure. you would think we would have at least one simple intricate something over a zillion years, but NOTHING. look at our planet. the only things beyond simple form and structure are things made by intelligent designers. leave nature by herself and NOTHING. maybe some desert dunes, or a beautiful cave but simple form!
22mheath 1 week ago
@jolohmm part 3: u would think that here on earth where we have brilliant people such as yourself we would have at least witnessed nature build a simple mouse trap (im not talking about living organisms either, im talking about nature on her own because that is how you believe things came about from nothing). Nature hasnt even come close to producing even a simple mouse trap. it has NEVER been proven NEVER and NEVER will.
22mheath 1 week ago
@jolohmm part 4: put all the pieces of a simple mousetrap on the surface of the moon and i bet in another billion years there wont be a mouse trap. unless you have proven otherwise. and you want me to think the human brain came from a single cell? Ha. do you know how complex it is? can you explain consciousness and how it evolved? the odds that we came from nothing far outweigh the odds that an intelligent designer created everything
22mheath 1 week ago
@jolohmm part 5 if i would have told you a thousand years ago that men would create universes that were controlled by people and you could play the role of God you would have hung me on the next post and let my flesh rot. but today we have intelligent designers building games like that and more all the time. UNREAL stuff. it isn't too far fetched to say that God created us in much the same way. all things around you have been designed by intelligent designers. cars, houses, planes.
22mheath 1 week ago
@jolohmm : im not comparing God to a video game designer but imagine he is one that is unlimited. He is like one. i am trying to put it in a rationale that can be compared. sorry i rambled so much but i didn't know that i would be cut off every 300 or so words, lol.
22mheath 1 week ago
@22mheath I'd like to reply to all of your claims, but i'm almost 100% that you will just repel everything that I say and not understand it. Precisely, the beauty of the universe is within itself. As you've mentioned, caves, sand dunes, moons. These are all by products from the laws of nature ie gravity, natural selection, and others, Don't even get me started on the "Intelligent designer" because with all the design he's made, he's pretty fucking stupid, srsly, warm blooded humans? Rofl.
jolohmm 1 week ago

And it created life, black holes, etc, those arent intricate?
jolohmm 1 week ago
@jolohmm : The reason there is so much evil in the world is because God gave man one of the greatest gifts, free will. Think about it. That is the ultimate freedom. If you created a world with people, one of the greatest gifts you could give them would be free will. But with that freedom you have the choice to choose right or wrong. That way we are not mindless robots. Also with free will we show the ultimate choice in bel or not bel in God. Evil comes from the evil acts of men!
22mheath 1 week ago
@22mheath You bring up the concept of free will.. Free will is having the choice between pizza and hotdog, it wouldn't really affect you. The free will of choosing between going to heaven or going to hell is more like extortion or blackmail. Learn the difference please. What's wrong about being mindless robots if we're going to rejoice in heaven? It's as if God WANTS people to go to hell because he gave them "free will". Besides, aren't religius people mindless robots anyway?
jolohmm 1 week ago
@jolohmm : I dont consider myself a mindless robot. If I am, explain to me what you mean by mindless? Don't judge. I won't judge you.
22mheath 1 week ago
@22mheath I don't judge. I say it as I see it. To explain what I mean by mindless is.... do you actually read the bible yourself? Any atheist or agnostic will tell you to read the bible yourself. It's the quickest route to understanding that religion is a bunch of scattered ideas that don't make sense. Instead of being fed the good and delightful verses, do some research yourself. I love some of the morals in the bible, sure. However, that doesn't justify it so that it may be considered fact.

@22mheath I'm sorry what? Like I legitimately could not understand anything I just read, totally serious, not trying to be offensive.
M5000thesdgversion 1 week ago
@M5000thesdgversion : thats cool. no offense taken. basically what i was trying to convey was that the reason God lets evil happen is because he loves us so much that he wants us to have free will. however, with free will He knew we would choose evil too. if he didn't allow evil to happen then he couldn't give us free will. he hates the evil that man does but has to allow it to allow for free will. it is also the perfect way in which to see who will choose him.
