@zzzhuh Yeah but Marty is also recogniseable, he has a really clean cut exotic style that flavoured Megadeth in ways Chris Poland wasn't able to. Take Rust In Peace for example. I doubt that R.I.P would have had been the same. Chris' demos for that album were interesting, but there's no way he was capable of doing what Marty was doing. His past in Cacophony had put him in the position to take Megadeth to the next level of guitar and musical excellence.

Where Rust In Peace pretty muched summed up while other bands paled in comparison when it came to guitar mastery. Instrumentally it has to be one of the very best thrash albums ever. And Marty is largely that reason.

Idk the riffs on the first two albums just have a very smooth transition from one riff to the other where as hanger 18 has a riff that just starts playing out of random. Gar just knew how to connect those riffs together through drum fills like on these boots.

@zzzhuh Hangar 18 is really all about the solos. Alas, there's Holy Wars, Tornado of Souls, Five Magics, Lucretia, Poison was the Cure. Then the stuff on Marty's Dragon's Kiss album. Through Marty's career, the genres he's done have been thrash, neo-classical, prog rock, instrumental metal, and J-Pop. A wide variety which has morphed his playing. Fair enough if you like Chris better. But he is not a better player than Marty. Marty is far too diverse to be beaten.

Buckethead is very versatile and a lot of people don't think he shows "feeling" but that is because they haven't heard his more melodic stuff. But Poland is also very versatile and his sound is so unique that I tend to respect it a bit more and it's mainly because he isn't known as well.

And Killing was just horrible quality the original version I had. I had peace sells before i had any metallica albums. And was one of my favorite albums and still is. Ride the Lighting is my favorite though. But Metallica sucked major ass afterwards where Megadeth didn't. That's what I'm saying.

@Bisquack Honestly, KEA was really unpolished musically. Jump in the fire is a scale. I love ride the lightning too, but peace sells is probably a better record IMO. I didn't like SFSGSW as much as I liked KIMB or PS. Once Marty Friedman joined Megadeth, all bets were off. Although Chris Poland is awesome.
