Cuba has a higher literacy rate than the U.S. my friends, its health care system rivals the American one, and is called a "model for other countries" by the U.N. Call it communist, totalitarian dictatorship, its progress will not be undermined.
I really admire Cuba it's my second favorite country!! other than puerto Rico (since I'm puerto rican) but I love Cuba so much, and I like how our cultural background is sort if similar (Like with the music, and the way the Spanish is spoken ect.) viva Cuba! Viva la revolución!
I visited Cuba last year. Good people, salt of the earth. No one starving in the streets, basic medical care, and dedicated school teachers with minimal resources. I don't think their standard of living is much better than it was before Castro, though. Now with the influx of tourists bringing in much needed hard currency, Cubans may start to ask "Why do they have freedom to travel and internet?" Communism can never work, it's only been an excuse to seize power.

He took an impoverished third world nation and gave his people education, healthcare and economic equality. The only reason Cuba isn't a first world country is that darned embargo.
It was better for the wealthy few. Now there is healthcare for all, University education for all and a strong independent attitude that will forever combat the brutal Monro/Roosevelt doctrine.
Those of us in our 50's who were born there, and remember when the soldiers walked into our middle class houses and said "This is now the property of the State If you leave in 3days by airplane there will be no trouble" so we left with $300.00 My father was a farmer. If you had family in Cuba in the 40's and 50's then you would realize that there already were free public schools and private schools there were free Public Hospitals and Private Hospitals
